  1. As I watched all the TV coverage of Joan Rivers' life, I was struck by how beautiful she was before all the stuff she got done on her face. I, too, would have loved to see what she would've looked like without surgery. That still doesn't take away the fact that she was a true trailblazer. I knew she was pretty gutsy when I heard her incorporate her husband's suicide into her monologue. She will be dearly missed.
  2. Another disturbing TV moment from childhood: The Twilight Zone's episode "It's a Good Life" -- the jack-in-the-box scene (even though it was just a silhouette). Speaking of themes/opening sequences, the distorted face of a guy that appears early into the opening sequence of The X-Files used to scare the cr@p out of me. I'd always avert my eyes (or fast forward the opening sequence) just to avoid it.
  3. Huh, never even heard of it, but it sounds interesting -- AND it's on Amazon Prime! Yippeee! I'll have to give it a shot. Thanks for the recommendation!
  4. Both The Bletchley Circle and Copper could've been very good. I mean, who wouldn't want three beautiful ladies -- solving puzzles -- in post-War London??? Or three comrades-in-arms (handsome ones, I must add) doing some awesome CSI/procedural/political s@it in post-Civil-War New York??? Both shows had some good actors and flashes of decent writing. Somehow, the Bletchley ladies forgot to solve puzzles and the men never got to do much together (and instead, we got way too much trivial melodrama surrounding them). Both shows were canceled after 2 seasons. Sigh. I'm still looking for a decent period piece that is not Downton Abbey. Thought Turn might be it, but it ain't.
  5. I still clearly remember the moment Sylvia got raped by a masked man on Little House on the Prairie. I was 9. It was the first time the program (which had been my favorite show for several years at that time) dealt head on with the topic of something so violent and sexual, and it shook me and my (little innocent) world. It was not a graphic rape scene, but it was so disturbing (to me -- back then, at least) that it traumatized me for months.
  6. Yay, more Hank lovers! And, oh, don't forget his perfectly-shaped bald head!
  7. Glee UO: If I had to choose between Kurt Hummel and Dave Karofsky, I'd choose the latter. Any day. Breaking Bad UO: The sexiest male character on that show? Hank Schrader, hands down. Downton Abbey UO: The prettiest Crawley sister? Edith. Most interesting, too, IMO. Boardwalk Empire UO: I miss crazy Lucy. I actually liked her with Van Alden. House of Cards UO: Actor most deserving of an Emmy on that show was Corey Stoll, closely followed by Michael Kelly. The Killing UO: The reason why the show lost a large number of viewers after the first season, IMO, is NOT because it did not reveal who'd killed Rosie Larsen. It is because the show made us watch Michelle Forbes ham it up again -- and again -- for another season. Ugh. I cringe to even think about it.
  8. So HBO has officially submitted True Detective in the Drama category. That means that Fargo's biggest rival in the Miniseries category should be the latest installment of American Horror Story. I think how Martin Freeman has transformed himself during the course of this season definitely warrants a nomination, and while BBT is fabulous as Malvo, Freeman seems to be gaining momentum. I hope they submitted this episode for Martin Freeman (and see him go up against Benedict Cumberbatch)!
  9. Who would've thunk it? Mary has more spine than Abe! Ha! Count me in as a new fan of Burn Gorman. He had been consistently good throughout the season, but he sold me on every quiver of his lips and his controlled rage -- at Simcoe -- in the last episode. I would love to see more of him next season, if there is one. Selah is very handsome. He looked goooood on the battlefield! I think he deserves better than Anna, though. Now that Mary has grown a pair, the Mary-Abe-Anna triangle would be more interesting, too. I hope the series comes back for another season.
  10. I must say I wholeheartedly agree. I also always wondered why he was considered to have the vocal prowess to match that of Lea Michele's. He's a good singer but not a great one, IMO. I also think that Glee would've been remembered as one of the best high school dramas ever had it quit after the graduation episode. Maybe this one's not an UO, though.
  11. Speaking of preachy, how about Isaac and Ishmael episode of The West Wing? I understand why TPTB felt compelled to put together a "very special" episode after 9.11. But it was just not done very well and ended up being a bad Afterschool Special episode. I still cringe thinking about it.
  12. Loved the fashion commentary! I found the episode intriguing but feel as if something is still missing. The show's premise is great -- intelligent, capable women and their camaraderie -- and they solve crimes, too! I think it could pack more of an emotional punch, but as it is, it doesn't quite get there. The final scene was nice, though. And Susan and Millie's embrace was touching. That said, I prefer Alice to Susan, so I look forward to the next two episodes.
  13. Love it! That would be just as good a showdown as Boyd vs. Raylan! An armless Quarles' appearance would definitely be nice, too!
