I kind of feel like that was a no-contest contest, but that's not fair of me. While Jensen is my favorite, Shemar Moore is splendiferous in his own right.

John Krasinski might be as appealing as Shemar and Jensen, but he's not as sexy, if you know what I mean.

Who is the brunette in the middle? Is it a very young Milo Ventimiglia, or am I so old and out of it now, that I can't recognize the new hot thing?

Shemar would have been my choice if Jensen wasn't an option!

Just rereading some of the earlier posts and came across this.  I'd forgotten John's storage unit.  But having watched Storage Wars for quite a few years, can you imagine if his unit gets auctioned off for nonpayment, and what the buyer would think of all the stuff in there?  ...not to mention, opening all the curse boxes and letting them loose.

Sounds like an idea for a crossover fanfic. 😀

    Write it! 😁

Well, they finally gave Eve a relatable motive. Alas, too little too late, and she's dead anyway. Yet another pretty female villain that got slaughtered quickly without getting any decent substance for her character (plus Anora...). Those who called this show misogynic must've had a field day with this episode.

At this point, we had gotten as many male human and supernatural villains as there were females. I don't think that killing Eve had anything to do with misogyny but everyone has a different interpretation.

I've always enjoyed this episode. I liked seeing them having to work around not having Cas's powers and I loved Dean outsmarting Eve and getting the kill. I also enjoyed the humor sprinkled throughout, particularly Dean's glee at coming up with Jefferson Starships for Eve's monsters.

    Spoiler

The Crowley reveal and the ending was also a great way to set up the next episode when we find out what Castiel has been up to while the boys were dealing with Eve and Sam's soullessness.

  4. I enjoyed this episode mostly because of how much fun Dean was having. Even though the old west didn't live up to his expectations, it was still a good time. I haven't (and I'm not going to) watch Walker so the brief mention doesn't usually stick with me.

    Spoiler

Also, after seeing how the season ends there's some pretty good hints here that Castiel has been up to no good since the Apocalypse was averted.

I thought Benny and his lady had zero chemistry.  Same with Sam and Amelia.

But Benny's blue, blue eyes.  I do like those.

Benny was one of my favorite parts of season 8 but Amelia was a completely unlikable character.

The MotW is whatever. I've seen Ice from The X-Files, but that's forever ago.

It's similarities to Ice is one of the reasons why I enjoyed this episode. It didn't have the same spooky feel IMO but it advanced the Eve plotline and showed what she was capable of. I wish that they hadn't killed Rufus but I was fine with getting rid of the rest of the Campbells.

Just watched this last night. Have questions. If what's his name was "burning" ghosts who ticked him off by throwing their bones into his fireplace how was he able to attempt to "burn" Bobby? He didn't have his bones and Bobby hadn't died in the house. Did he get ahold of the flask somehow and I missed it?

I don't think that he needed their bones in order to kill them. When he killed Dexter and Victoria he just stuck his hand through their chests and they ignited. It makes sense that he only needed to do the same to Bobby to kill him also. It was probably because of how powerful he was; Victoria did say that they were food to him.

Unlike you, I always thought that Nicholas Lea was hot in the X-Files - a character you loved to hate - in fact, I always hoped they'd give him more screen time. He did get a fitting end, though!

I loved Krycek! I read that the reason why he was killed off was because Nicholas Lea didn't like the way that they were making Krycek over the top evil just for the sake of it and wanted to leave the show.

I don't see them opening  a B&B or an inn in a place where they live.  To many people would come hoping to catch a glimpse of Jensen.  And some people in this fandom have no boundaries.

Maybe its just as simple as they liked the house and the area.

I agree with this. Also, there's plenty of space if each of them have large families (I don't know anything about Jensen and Danneel's extended families) or they may enjoy entertaining and the extra bedrooms/baths may be useful.

I find the writing of having their fun and then kill the demon in a female body creates quite awful optics.

Just as awful as when she possessed Sam and tried to kill Jo? No matter the body that she's in, Meg has always been terrible. That's why I say that I don't find their treatment of her problematic. But I understand to each their own.

Next episode looks to be one of the best episodes of all time though.

Personally, I've always felt that it was a tad overrated; not sure why fandom has such reverence for it. But I look forward to your thoughts!

there were bits and pieces here that were decent (there were some humorous bits from Dean in the forms of mannequin jokes), but it's kinda a mediocre episode for me.

Agree. I thought that the case was somewhat interesting and enjoyed the Dean/Lisa/Ben scenes but this is a largely forgettable episode for me.

Just for the heck of it.  Buzzfeed had this article today:

24 TV And Movie Roles That Were So Perfectly Portrayed By An Actor, Literally No One Else Could Have Done It

Every so often while watching a movie or a TV show, you come across a performance that is so pitch-perfect, you're convinced no other actor on Earth would have been able to play the role.

Several come to mind for me immediately, and I wanted to know what the BuzzFeed Community thought. So, I recently asked them to share the roles they thought fit this criterion, and they are honestly so correct.

And, of course, one of the ones listed was:

20."Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural. No one else could have brought such a believable complexity to that character."

I always love when others recognize greatness!

ETA:  I also LOVE the term "believable complexity."  Definitely Dean Winchester!

Agreed, I can't even imagine anyone else playing Dean Winchester. And now, I can't picture anyone else playing Soldier Boy! Jensen is so good 😊

I always liked this episode. The scene with Dean attempting to pull the sword from the concrete - complete with the music - is hysterical. Yes, the "dragons" were forgettable to be sure. But I thought that the episode flowed very well and surprise! we got a humble Sam who was so sorry for what he did while soulless toward the end.

I've always enjoyed this episode also. I liked Dean smiling when Sam scolds him for reading a girls diary because it's something that normal Sam would do, which reassures him that he's really himself again. I love little things like that. Also,

    Spoiler

with Castiel's later betrayal it makes you go back to this episode and marvel at his hypocrisy.

That's fair, I suppose, but enemy or not, I still found it tasteless. But that's something I'm used to in the show anyway.

You're closer to the better half of season 6 though 🙂

He said he was gonna let Cas have an hour of kinky fun with Meg before killing her.

Considering their history with Meg, I don't find Dean's disdain for her to be problematic in the slightest.

You're absolutely right about Mulder and Scully's chemistry and that's the main reason that the show became so popular. (I personally also liked the alien conspiracy story, but I know others didn't)

I also loved the alien conspiracy storyline. It gave us some of the more interesting characters like The Lone Gunmen, The Smoking Man, Alex Krycek, Mr. X and all of The Smoking Man's cronies.

I also agree that "Sam and Dean" doesn't match it. However, better writing without constantly trying to create drama between them would have helped continue a positive relationship.

I agree with this also. Continuous drama doesn't keep things interesting, it just annoys the viewer.

Jared's reading of "Do you have bigger cups?" was great.

If I'm not mistaken, Jared actually adlibbed this line.

Soulless Sam for not only the refreshing dynamic of Sam being the pragmatic one and Dean the empathetic one

I didn't really see it as a role reversal. Dean's always been empathetic and Soulless Sam leaned more towards heartless than pragmatic overall. Just my opinion.

Yes, dreams are wonderful! However, despite its shortcomings, and it has many, Supernatural is still one of my favorite series with Dean Winchester as my favorite fictional character of all time. I tried not to expect too much perfection and that helped me hand-wave some of the really poor story choices or "horror" characters. And as I said above, I always had Dean Fucking Winchester to look forward to. 👍

Totally agree with all of this! 😊

I get that Dean's upset about Sam, but giving Cas a hard time wasn't going to help, especially after the latter had already told the former in a previous episode that he didn't know what's going on.

    This will make sense later.

I read from Reddit that quite a handful of people hated Sam (partly because Jensen Ackles is more popular than Jared Padalecki), with the reasons given being he's a self-entitled whiny little brat with victim complex, not to mention how most of Dean's suffering was because of Sam. And boy, this episode sure doesn't do Sam any favors. Seriously, I rooted for him in early season 1 because he provided a nice balance to Dean's seemingly more pragmatic counterpart, only that it turned out that Dean was the more compassionate one down the seasons while Sam's the more emotionally messed up one who gave into aggressive urges often throughout the first five seasons. And when he's not being insufferable, Dean's just a far more interesting protagonist. I feel for Jared, but that's just how it is.

Co-sign this. I've always felt that Dean was a more relatable character.

Mitch Pileggi playing an untrustworthy character who might or might not be an ally just gave me a nostalgic X-Files vibe as I was watching this. God, I miss Skinner. lmao I promise I won't spam this forum with unrelated mentions of X-Files every episode. 😛

Don't feel bad! I called him Skinner instead of Samuel in my head every time he appeared on screen and still thought of Rufus as Mr. X in the beginning 😄
