  1. I have been meaning to say this after every episode this season: Christian - 1998 called and wants its boy band necklaces back.
  2. I don't know that anyone will ever see this since I'm watching the series and posting about it 3 years after the fact, but I have to say I'm not into this Amy/Jonah romance. I don't know if the writers had planned this before or if they got the idea because America Ferrara got pregnant, but it looks like they're going to use the pregnancy to prop up Amy and Jonah being the greatest couple ever because he still wants to be with her despite her having a child with her ex-husband. I like their scenes where they're just having fun together, like the one where they discover the tunnels and spend the day playing with the recalled merchandise, and I get that they're supposed to be similar in being the voices of reason surrounded by eccentrics, but I can't root for them as a couple because Amy's behaviour bugs me. I still think it was incredibly selfish of her to kiss him after she had found out that she was having a baby with Adam and Jonah was with Kelly. She only thought about what she wanted and had no concern about how it might affect him. I don't see her as being very nice to him. He's very encouraging and supportive of her (encouraging her to keep the lost and found pants money, asking for a raise, getting her the video game she wanted) and all she does is tell him how annoying he is. Yeah, it's supposed to be her teasing him and "cute banter", but it would be good if she did something nice for him once in a while. Their dynamic is kind of unbalanced and if they were a real couple I wonder how long this would last before Jonah got seriously resentful.
  3. People also seem to forget that he forced a gay man to out himself on national TV. I've never understood it being swept under the rug and him being a fan favourite with all of this. I've heard people say that this was okay back then, but most people knew it wasn't, or that Rob has changed since then, which I don't really see.
  4. I knew that a man was going to win before the season even starting airing when Probst declared it "the best season ever" and I knew before the finale aired that this meant it was going to be Tony (unless Rob made it from back EoE).
  5. The FBI agent stuff is weird. It seems like it's more about her being jealous of them and/or wanting to be best friends with them.
  6. The best part of this episode was that the therapist wasn't in it.
  7. Glad they didn't go there with Annie and her therapist, but think they might in the future. I don't buy that basically every guy Annie talks to is attracted to her. To me this is the part of the show that requires the most suspension of disbelief. I get that the guys are messes themselves, but she's so unappealing.
  8. Sergio said that women are not weaker "things". That told me all I need to know about his supposed feminism.
  9. Maybe I missed it before but I had no idea Elaine was such a Nancy fan.
  10. Some of her pre-season stuff was very cringe-y. She described herself as a "goddess" in her bio (and I don't think this was tongue-in-cheek) and I found the way she talked about Michele being a fan of hers in some of her pre-game interviews to be dismissive and condescending.
  11. Wow, how surprising! That was my reaction exactly. I think it's a gendered thing. As for why they didn't vote off either Parvati or Rob - I think Michele and Jeremy want to work with them. Jeremy knows Rob from the poker game (that doesn't mean the poker alliance is actually a thing but just that they're friendly) and Parvati talked about working with Michele pre-game.
  12. Same. I want to be friends with him in real life. The only thing that I don't love about him is his love for Victoria. Also, what was she wearing on the runway last night?! She should have been eliminated just for that.
  13. After it's revealed that it's a non-elimination: "What kind of competition is this?" - says the woman who tried to quit a few weeks ago.
  14. I'm so happy we got a break from Jamal's existential crises this episode. I was a little worried that we'd just get them from Kovid instead, but thankfully he was pretty quiet.
  15. This show needs to stop trying to make James happen. He is not going to happen. It's gotten to the point where I fast forward every scene he's in and I usually never do that with shows.
  16. What's with the Jewish imagery in this show? Last episode there were stained glass Stars of David behind Miss Wardwell when she watched the witch play and then in this episode Ambrose blows what's basically a shofar, which is also used in Jewish traditions. I'm not into using this imagery for the "evil" witch world. Have there been any crosses on the show and I've just missed them?
  17. George and Mary are the best parts of the show. They're both very charming and endearing, I think mainly because of the actors. Georgie is the second best part of the show and I liked that there was a plot involving him, Missy and Sheldon. I could be wrong, but I feel like that doesn't happen very much on the show. The violin plot was boring and yes, they already did the Jewish conversion plot. I'm also tired of anything Jewish being portrayed as "weird" and played for laughs.
  18. I don't think there was any original storyline in this episode. We've been through Jay's conflicts with Claire at the closet company and his retiring before. We just had an episode earlier this season about Haley being worried about being a bad mom and then being reminded of how she took care of Luke and Alex. It was predictable that they were going to do the exact same thing with Phil. The cookie CEO storyline with Claire was just gross. Not at all funny. I was actually really happy to see that she was being recognized for being competent and offered another job and then that pile of crap happened.
  19. The first half of the episode dragged for me. I just can't laugh at the Trump stuff at this point. It's nice that they're finally getting sensitive (sort of) to racism against African-American but not sure why they think other races/ethnicities are still fair game? I realize that they framed it as Trump seeing it this way and doing this but really it's SNL as a show and knowing they can get away with it. Beck was on fire tonight. I love Jules. He's like way too many people I've known and I think I get a cathartic release watching him. Loved the Lollipop sketch. I'm a sucker for the random song sketches. I still think about Taran Killam doing Savage Garden and laugh. This was super cute and Beck's a good dancer. I'm off to go wash my hands with pink soap that hates them.
  20. I think Django has some mental health issues that made him uncomfortable to watch for me. I was pleasantly surprised at how he took his ouster but that could be part of something mood-related. Also, him saying that someone else's design "lacks joy" was hilarious to me. Like...really Django? You have lacked joy in practically every moment this season! I think Sean has a crush on Anthony Ryan. Move over Isaac, you're going to have to share and that's probably not going to go well.
  21. SNL really should start calling this the "holiday" show instead of the Christmas show. It's 2018 - maybe it's time to try being inclusive. But yes, I realize this a lot to ask of the show that had to be basically coerced into hiring a more diverse cast. Anyway, I thought this was a great episode. Matt Damon was an amazing host. He reminded me a lot of Chris Pine when he hosted, both just fit right in. I hope each of them hosts again soon. I think Matt will become a regular in the rotation - maybe like a Melissa McCarthy. The writing was really clever - like the throwback to Good Will Hunting and Westminster Daddy Show, especially the ending. It was funny too because I noticed as they were describing the "Daddy" characteristics that they were basically describing Matt. SNL has been criticized a lot over the years for sketches not having real endings and they've really improved on that. I loved Cecily's Jingle Bells and the banter between her and Matt. The fact that this is actually a real song is hilarious. Cecily also had a hilarious Instagram post about the sketch and how excited she was about it and gave a shout out to the sequin beret. The Weezer sketch reminded me of the sketch with Sterling K. Brown where he's obsessed with Shrek and gets into a fight about it with his girlfriend's dad. I loved both of these sketches because they actually seem like something that would happen in real life. I was thinking "Oh, this is probably a fight that the writers had with each other." I wonder if this will become a recurring theme, like "host gets absurd over random pop culture thing and freaks out on dinner guests." I'm totally here for that.
