  1. I mean, really!! In Zero Dark Thirty, they didn't go into OBL house blazing like that. I couldn't understand the point of all the shooting. Especially of unarmed people.
  2. Now wouldn’t THAT be interesting. Here he is banging some chick (cheating on his wife, I’m sure) and POOF!! she’s gone, mid thrust, just like that. Well, he DID tell the Mayor it was not a good idea to even have the parade in the first place, but of course, since there are not enough cliché’s in this show, she did not listen. And I guess the reason he was so fanatical about his daughter NOT being at the ceremony (and of course she shows up anyway, because, you know, the whole cliché thing) was because the mom was in the cult and the kids do not know this?? You know, I may watch the whole season anyway, just so I can have something to snark on the next day. LOL!!
  3. It’s good to have another perspective. Thank you!! I agree the show is about loss rather than death. And how folks are not able to cope with the unexplainable. If a person got sick and died, was in a car accident, killed themselves, even, I guess it would be “easier” to come to terms with the loss. But not knowing where these people went, just sitting talking to someone who just vanishes in front of your eyes, well, that would make anyone go insane. Like someone up post said, what’s to say the disappearances won’t happen again? That would make any person crazy, the not knowing. And people are drawn to cults for that reason. To belong to something that seems to understand what no one else does. And trying to find love and stability in this post - whatever you want to call it - has to be super difficult. But see, my problem with the pilot, as someone who has never even HEARD of the book, is that they could have done more to explain up front the reasoning behind some of what is happening. They didn’t have to spell it all out like I am a 4 year old. But it just seems to leave too many unanswered questions and too many head scratching moments. It’s too confusing. They didn't set the right tone. Maybe that is the thinking of the producers, to keep folks intrigued enough to keep coming back, but that ploy can also backfire. Which I think is what happened here. IMO. Instead of leaving people wanting more, people are already giving up on it. That is why I like discussion boards. You can get perspective and insight you never considered before.
  4. I thought the same exact thing. Until they crashed into the car, I thought it was come college boy prank. Like they were daring each other to jump off the roof onto something. Like in that movie Project X where the kid jumps off the roof of the house into an inflatable bounce house and only broke a finger.
  5. Thanks for the information. Well, I just don’t know what to say now. And that’s not a good thing for me as I am rarely left speechless. Really!?!?!? This is what goes on?!?!?! I have to laugh. Yes, it’s summer, and people are out and about. TV is not a priority. But at 10pm on a Sunday night, most folks are home as SOMEONE in the house usually has to get up for work the next day, and would like to watch something decent before the news comes on. But HBO ought to be ashamed of itself for committing money to a project like this. I think I may watch one or two more episodes, but this will not be a “turn off the phone, ply the kids with cough syrup to get them to sleep early, kick hubby to the curb, watch with closed caption on” type of shows.
  6. A-friggin'-men to that one, only I wouldn't say I hated her, as much as she -- out of everyone -- read the least like a real person, and I'm including the standard-issue overly-pretty-boy the daughter liked. Aimee read as more of a two-dimensional stock-footage, central-casting cliche, right down to the "seriously, the Chief is just going to fall for this incredibly see-through 'her parents are totally going to be there' act? He's a cop for the love of all things cliched. A goat has more sense than that." Yup, even the pretty-boy with almost no lines seemed closer to being a real person. Plus, not to put too fine a point on it, but I think the actor must have watched Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, with a marathon of Cheech and Chong then followed it up with way too many Skinemax After Dark soft-core porn for her acting choices. She's a lovely young woman, don't get me wrong, but not only was her characterization truly awful, ,her acting was...(I will be kind) ...in desperate need of a very talented acting coach and possibly divine intervention. That girl's performance stole the Worst in Show trophy from the mayor, no doubt. I think Liv Tyler was supposed to be playing someone who had also witnessed a disappearance and they were targeting her because she was trying to still do the normal stuff of life, like a form of denial, like planning her wedding. I think Wayne is supposed to be like the Branch Davidians, casting Wayne in the David Koresh role. If they want to portray a teenaged girl crushing on an older man and making it somewhat believable, they ought to watch American Beauty to see how it’s done. This Aimee was the pits. And if the Chief falls for it, I will just puke all over myself. I still have no words about that Mayor’s acting chops. And about Liv Tyler, yeah I get that, that she witnessed something terrible and it affected her deeply, and she’s not handling it well, at all, but HOW did the white clad, cigarette smoking, no talking, clipboard toting cult KNOW that about her. See, why do they have dossiers on the folks they have dossiers on? Branch Davidian?? Too funny. LOL!!
  7. I would appreciate any spoilers, cause otherwise I don't think I can finish this show beyond this first episode or two.
  8. Well, I am not sure if I like this show, but I will give it another few weeks to see how things develop. This does not seem to be an HBO show. It’s not up to their standards, IMO. I mean, think about Six Feet Under. The Sopranos. Carnivale. The Wire. Game of Thrones. Oz. Big Love. I can go on and on. Where does this rank? Anyway, quite a few things bothered/confused me. I absolutely HATE the daughter’s friend Aimee. Stereotypical “teenaged slut” who has the hots for best friend’s dad. I don’t know why I never caught on to the fact that Tom and Jill are siblings. How/why did the cult know to target Liv Tyler’s character? They were all passing around portfolios about various people at their meeting and she was one of them. Why? What was the purpose of their constant stake-out of Liv’s character? Clearly Liv (I guess I should call her Meg) has issues, but how do they know that? The character of the female Mayor was poorly acted and unbelievable to me. What on earth was that statue supposed to represent? And a parade?? To remember the disappearances? Really? What’s up with Wayne, the black dude who has his own cult of some sort with all of the bikini clad young girls around? When the governor, or whoever he was, went to see Wayne, I first thought Wayne was blind. That would have finished it for me. A blind prophet. Okey Dokey, then. I did feel bad for Tom. When asked why he was not in college, or something like that, he flashed back to the 2 kids jumping off the roof to kill themselves. Said he saw no point in continuing. The wife who lost her entire family was very moving. How she wished that they were all 4 of them sick in bed together again. And the Chief asking he wife to just come home was so moving to me. There’s just so much more I could critique, but I will reserve judgment until a few more episodes have passed. And did anyone watch the ending previews to see what’s coming up next? Why did it have to be so long? If you have to show that many “what happens next” snippets, well, there is something wrong with the show if it needs that much explaining.
  9. And Juliette was betrothed to her 1st cousin. They must be related to the Targs.
  10. Oh, I don't think she was bluffing at all. She was most serious. Because she KNEW that Tywin would never allow the rumor to be confirmed. Talk about losing face. Tywin would have to hide himself in shame. Oh, no. That could never happen as far as Tywin was concerned. She had his number there, and good. And I also bet she never thought about, well, what if I did tell the world the truth. Her brain doesn't allow for long term thinking. She lives very much in the moment. She has no inkling of the long term implications that would happen with that reveal. And can you really see Pycell as Hand. LOL!! I crack up thinking about it. I know the choices are very limited, but he pretends to be a doddering old fool. He'd be an embarrassment as Hand. He'd get no respect. He'd have to drop the act and straighten himself up. I agree with your thoughts on Mace being Hand. But who chooses The Hand? The King? In this case it would be Cersei. Can you imagine her thinking logically and long term like you just did and pick Mace. LOL!! No. She'd pick Pycell.
  11. Perhaps you mean Jojen? If you are referring to the boy leading Bran to the tree, his name is Jojen and the sister is Meera.
  12. And how she ever expects to reign in Drogon, if and when he ever comes back, is beyond me. She'd probably have to kill it. Which she wont do.
  13. To all my fellow posters. Let me just take a minute to say how much of a joy it was to discuss each GoT episode with you all. You are all the most well-spoken, intelligent, insightful, thoughtful, welcoming people I have come across in a forum in a long time. You all have a sharp eye, and ear, and can dissect a scene down to its microscopic level. Your skill at divining is second to none. Even when you disagree, you are all exceedingly polite and careful not to offend. Not to mention you are all FUNNY as hell!!! Some of the shit you guys say has me rolling on the floor!! Can’t tell you how many times I cracked up laughing. It’s been a great season of discussions, guys. Looking forward to next year. Hope that wasn't too sappy!! LOL!!
  14. She loved you. Did she say that? No. She just kept talking about how much she wanted to kill you all the time. That's how I know she loved you. Mance Rayder. We do not kneel.
  15. Now, see, why'd you have to say something so logical!! There goes my hopes of ever seeing Jaqen again!! Man, he was a hottie. Oh, he knew alright!! That's the same as Slynt looking directly at the giants and still saying there are no such thing as giants.
