  1. Same. It wasn't a select committee per se but the GOP Senate health care bill working group consisted of only of 13 male senators, most if not all of whom were likely White. This happened in 2017. Ditto comments above, I can't believe they turned David into a suddenly overly trusting idiot and killed him off. And all Cyrus got was fired from his job? Say what now? (And the US AG can wander around all hours of the day and night with no Secret Service? I don't believe that but I don't dare google it because I'm not trying to get Guantanamoed over Scandal.) Given all the killings and other felonies they are were involved in, it seemed like a cop out to me to pin it all on Jake but whatever. And finally, Shonda just had to throw the Olitzers a bone, leaving the question of Vermont hanging but hopeful since Liv didn't end up in prison after all. Okay then, Shonda. Have cake, eat it too. Got it. My fellow Scandal forum PTVers, our long national nightmare is over. It's been a pleasure watching the show with you and reading your witty and insightful observations.
  2. Why would Mellie plan to plead the Fif if she knew she didn't try to assassinate Cryus? Is it publicly known that Jake (allegedly) is a recent widower? What happened to that plot point? Or for crying out loud, Olivia "Not a Crime Left to be Committed" Pope was seeking inspiration from the memories of King and Mandela. They both must've been spinning in their graves. Deep state? Might as well have blamed it all on the boogeyman. Interesting choice to Jake the ultimate Big Bad in the end. They're all as terrible as he is if not worse. None of them are without sin; none of them can cast either the first or last stone.
  3. Why do I keep hoping Jake is working Cyrus? Heh, we'd probably all be better people if Fitz hadn't come into our lives. Olivia should've capped Jake while he was delivering that verbal smackdown. But noooo, no nice things for us. "I am not guilty." Oh, Mellie. That's right up there with "I am not a crook" and "I did not have sex with that woman." Sometimes the better choice is to say nothing, even if it's the truth. Not sure why they bothered to bring Jake's wife back for an appearance just to kill her off. Assuming she's actually dead and this isn't part of some big scheme by Jake to Save the Democracy! Guess Shonda had to throw the Olitzers a bone before the finale. I hope that was just a one-time thing and not a precursor to Vermont.
  4. From season 3, episode 14: Fitz was running for his second term and was being challenged by someone who had curried the favor of the major gun lobby. Mellie stepped up to try to convince them support Fitz instead.
  5. Oh. Look at Scandal trying to be a low-rent Homeland. After all the horrific stuff he's pulled and the people he killed, I can't get too bothered about Charlie being falsely accused. And Quinn shouldn't even be in the same building with a white hat. Mellie is a fool and a tool. Just like that she lets Olivia back in and now Liv will be unstoppable. Liv has the president directing the assassination of the VP, just like Mellie's being accused of. How would all suspicion not point back to her if Cyrus dies now? Jake better be pulling some super secret double agent 3-D chess stuff because his falling for Cyrus' nonsense is pathetic. I'm going to need someone to put two in his head right after they cap Cyrus. I want them all dead. All the gladiators, and Fitz, Mellie, Cyrus, and Jake. Eli and Maya too. I guess they could leave David Rosen alive though.
  6. From Variety: ‘Scandal’ Star Bellamy Young Lands Lead Role in ABC Drama Pilot ‘False Profits’
  7. Seems kind of late in the game for them to have Jake making a move on Mellie. Or was that just his way of trying to distract her? For the finale I hope they pull a Moldavian wedding massacre and kill them all.
  8. Maybe she and Cyrus were working together. Nothing on this show surprises me anymore. I just hope that was the last we'll see of her. As far as I'm concerned, her shtick is almost as tiresome as Eli's and she's just as vile.
  9. Eli was actually threatening to kill Quinn's baby right in front of her. Both he and Olivia need to be dead now. So did Liv put that guy on Jake's wife or did she just take advantage of an existing situation? Poor dumbcluck's life is likely ruined because he slept with the wrong woman... Why would anyone ever trust Cyrus? He's clearly playing both sides against the middle. Sniper, YOU HAD ONE JOB! HER ARM? I bet it was Rowan who shot Olivia. Because insane. Now Liv has developed a conscience. Guess all it took was a bullet. The better part of 11 episodes wasted...
  10. How did Liv step out of the shower with her hair bone straight like that? Whatever, spare me the allusions to the curative power of Fitz's penis. Olivia's intervention outfit was fierce though. No way should Huck have been in on that witch trial. He's the most bloodthirsty gladiator of them all, and St. Quinn the holy mother of assassins is a close second. "...but she won't make a fool of me." Um, remember "bitch baby," Cyrus? So it's all Millie's fault. Riiiight, Jake. It takes a lot of guts to call the first woman POTUS a basic heaux to her face. At least she got to clap back later. These fools had met Olivia before, right? Why would they trust her after everything's she's done to gain and hold onto her power? Olivia is straight up insane. They're going to have to kill her and I'd be okay with it.
  11. I'm going to need for Rowan to be brutally murdered before this is all over with. What if Quinn had gone into labor alone in that cellar and there was some kind of difficulty with the delivery? I am so over all the low-rent game theory, art of war crap between Olivia and Rowan. It's a shame what this show has descended into. The actors all just seem to be going through the motions until the clock runs out. (Well, it has run out for the cast already but the viewers are still waiting for the tick, tick, boom.)
  12. So is Quinn's fake death the big wake-up call Liv needs? Doesn't look like it so far to me. I think Glackland is a bad guy and is working Cyrus--assuming we ever see him again. Either way, STFU, Cyrus. Fixing a presidential election and thereby effecting the lives of hundreds of millions of people (if not the whole world) is way worse than wooing one person with an expensive painting. Was Huck really considering shooting Olivia? Maybe he should've considered harder and put everyone out of their misery. Whatever, I hope she took a car service and wasn't driving with her drunk self. Ugh, and now the Olitz fan service re-emerges. Grief sex? KMN. Still loving Liv's blowout though.
  13. Yes, and clearly he's been having a ball playing it. Yep. I will be completely stunned if that doesn't happen because Shonda will probably want to do something to get back in the Olitzers' good graces. I have but those shows didn't spend all but their last season telling me that the main character was actually a hero/heroine forced to do bad things for The Greater Good. On Scandal Olivia and her gang of sociopaths do bad things because they can, pure and simple. They enjoy it, they bathe in it, they live for it. Power corrupts and absolute power turned Scandal into crap. It's telling that lately I haven't gotten around ti watching the Scandal episodes until days after they've aired. I've hardly ever caught it live but I used to look forward to watching my recording on the same night. Ugh, I can't remember the last time I became so over a show I had stayed loyal to despite its faults.
  14. Is it possible Glackland was using his phone to record Cyrus putting the touch on the congress members? Cyrus was basically bribing them to support Mellie's war and now Glackland has the goods on everybody. I think he's working Cyrus to attack the administration from the inside and that he's going to primary Mellie. "I want my bones!" A line that's probably never been said before in the history of television. Seems like Quinn has turned into Olivia Jr., being nasty and vicious when it's not necessary. But what goes around... So Mellie was okay with sending troops in to risk their lives because she wanted to ride President Rashad's joystick. Guess that doesn't make her much different from Fitz when he had his Helen of Troy moment over Olivia. Except for the part where Fitz actually had had a relationship with Olivia. This thing with Rashad was mostly a schoolgirl crush. Yep, as others have said, you could see that plane explosion coming from a mile away. My guess is Olivia arranged it to punish Mellie for having dared to defy her but I also like the idea of Charlie doing on Eli's behalf.
  15. Did I actually hear Eli tell the walking ego that is Fitz that only his dick could save Olivia? It didn't take long for Mellie to get accused to her face of using sex to manipulate a foreign head if state. This is an example of why no unmarried, still relatively young woman will likely ever be elected POTUS. And darn if Eli didn't sorta turn out to be right. Liv certainly had a noticeable calmness about her after she spent the night with Fitz. KMN. This is looking to me like it's going to be worse than a "redeemed by love" ending.
  16. Aw, po widdle Fitz all alone in that humongous cabin. Guess I didn't realize the nuances of "gringo" in Cuban Spanish. It would've never occurred to me that word could apply to someone Black. Someone who would then return to the US and be derided as "chico." The irony. Marcus' read of Fitz was a thing of beauty, especially with regards to Olivia's professional achievements as a Black woman in the political sphere. But then they took it too far IMO with the fist fight. I don't think anyone's swinging on a current or former POTUS ever. (And really, no one held a gun to Olivia's head and forced her to be Fitz's concubine or continue to tolerate his abuse.) Hypocrisy, thy name is Eli Pope. Olivia's bad apple fell right next to your tree.
  17. I really wish that for the final season Shondaland had sprung for the rights to some different music. The same songs they've been using all these years seem stale and forced now to me. The singer at state dinner was a nice touch though. Abby's dress for the state dinner was fabulous. Maybe a tad immodest for the occasion though. Didn't really need to hear Mellie complain about not being able to have sex in White House. Not after she was screwing the former VP right in the WH, and not to the woman who screwed her ex-husband in the Oval Office--among other places. But that conversation did highlight how unlikely it would be for an unmarried woman to be elected president. Much less likely than an unmarried man, which would still be all but impossible given how puritanical this country still is towards women. I thought the former WH pool was now the press room? Not in Scandalworld, apparently. "Is that baclava?" Cash money Mellie us going to get primaried by that Glackland guy because of the way Cyrus spoke to him. Wonder if the show is going to do a flash-forward before it ends? I asked about this once in reference to another show and the vague answer I got is that the algorithm they use considers how active the forum is. I've noticed another show follow go on and off that first page depending on how hot and heavy the posters are feeling about the show at the moment. The Scandal posts have dropped off significantly since the first couple of seasons that may be why the show no longer shows up on the top forum listing.
  18. Cyrus being VP is still nine kinds of ridiculous but ridiculous is par for the course on Scandal, eh? Six seasons in and they're still using sexual indiscretions for basic blackmail. Yawn. They seemed to have upped the hair game though. I thought Abby and Liv's 'dos looked fabulous. However, Mellie's looks like a bad wig to me. As POTUS you'd think she could get the best. So who is going to be the one to take to take Olivia Pope down once and for all? She isn't just flying too close to the sun, she's heading directly into it. I envision a Julius Caesar on the Ides of March scenario for her where the people she thinks she's controlling unite to end her reign of terror.
  19. Maybe they should've just called the season finale "But Wait...!": Maya is the Big Bad and she's trying to assassinate the president-elect! But wait...she's not! Luna Vargas--oddly inspired by the vision of a newly-widowed First Lady in a bloody Chanel suit--is the assassinations mastermind! And there's no way to stop her! But wait...she's not because Cyrus put the bug in her ear, and Liv and Jake forced her to off herself! Cyrus is stuck to live out his sad life alone and falsely disgraced, sucking down bonbons while watching the new administration take power without any help from him. But wait...he's not! He did have a hand in it all and will probably end up working for Mellie via Olivia! And he got to be Mellie's date to the inauguration ball! Yay Cyrus? Rowan pulled a sneaky and is getting the B613 band back together! But wait...he's not! Fitz is taking over B613! But wait...he's not! Olivia is the new Command! Quinn is carrying Charlie's spawn, so she's quitting OPA to go into hiding and turning reins over to newly-unemployed Abby! But wait...she's not leaving and Abby will help her raise the devil child! Ugh, I feel like Shonda et al were trying to give me plot twist whiplash but all I really got was a dull disgusted sensation. Similarly, I'm not going to be satisfied unless Olivia or Fitz ends up dead by the show finale. Preferably Olivia. I found the staging of it interesting. His was the silhouette that lined up with the Washington Monument, not hers. Wonder if that means anything? Ditto comments upthread, I think this should've been the show's finale. All's that left now is for us to see Liv get to be president without actually being elected. And more Olitz fan service. Don't particularly want to see any of that and at this point will be pretty much only watching for the clothes.
  20. I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that Marcus and Mellie were no longer sleeping together. In either case, Mellie's not the president yet and I made that distinction deliberately to draw a (again, perhaps mistaken) parallel between her and Fitz. It seemed to me Marcus was drawing the same comparison. And maybe he's a hypocrite. Valid point about the double standard but I've never considered Marcus a stud. My very narrow point was that if he's sleeping with the sitting president while also being paid to work for the president, well, then the shoe fits IMO. Sex would seem to be a part of the job.
  21. Heh, they go out like Seinfeld? I think Scandal should've ended this season. Now we have to watch Mellie pretending to be Hilary if things had gone the other way?
  22. Ugh, Olivia and Fitz screwing in the WH again. Guess it's all Olitz fan service from here on out. "I'd skip Jefferson if I were you." Understatement of the season if not the entire show. Mellie has no others advisors besides Olivia? Nobody elected Olivia and yet she's pretty much controlling the PEOTUS. I don't call that working for "the people." Olivia is working for herself. "I'm not Olivia Pope." Yeah, Marcus isn't willing to be the president's concubine. Maya is the Big Bad? And they're all surprised? Prediction: next season will be all about them vanquishing Mama Pope. Then Fitz and Olivia will get married in the Rose Garden (wedding gift from Mellie) with Rowan giving away the bride, Abby and Quinn as bridesmaids, Jake as the best man, and David administering the vows. Huck will be the ring bearer or something and Marcus will do a scripture reading. KMN. But Liv will be wearing a killer gown so...
  23. Would it really be possible to deploy weaponized drones across the US like that? If so, why hasn't it happened already? Ditto comments upthread, this is going to turn out to be somebody's dream sequence, right? Because otherwise, how does Scandal continue to operate in a universe where several major cities have been attacked by terrorism at the same time? The country would've descended into mass domestic hysteria in short order, especially given how much of the populace is armed. People would've been shooting those drones out of the sky and no one would've been able to stop them. Or some hackers from obscure Eastern European locations would've figured out how to move them to other places like over the Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon offices. For me, the only way they can halfway salvage this mess is for Mellie to realize how woefully unqualified she is and how much she's just not up for dealing with this shit. She'd resign shortly after the inauguration and Mrs. Vargas would take the helm. There'd still be a female president and one who's a POC to boot. I'm willing to hand-wave away Mrs. Vargas' lack of qualifications if it prevents any of the regular team of self-serving ass-clowns from having the precious Oval. No, they think the viewers are, and no, we're the ones who are supposed to forget what happened in previous episodes. Continuity? Who cares? It's interesting to me how Shonda apparently thinks that one of the heights of Black Woman Achievement is getting to fcuk the White president (who may or may not be married) inside the White House. Olivia, the FBI director, maybe others we didn't get to see. Wonder if we'll ever find out what that's all about?
  24. Okay. Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to cast aspersions or make any negative assumptions about Mrs. Vargas because she's Hispanic/Latina. I thought I vaguely remembered it being mentioned early on that she wasn't born in the US, thus making the immigration issue particularly poignant for the Vargases. I might have been confusing Scandal with another show. Wonder if anyone bothered to tell her that she might have a target on her back too?
  25. That's exactly what I expected to happen and I was almost disappointed that it didn't. Because of course Mellie would select her husband's former mistress as her VP. Is she a natural born citizen? I thought she was from Mexico or somewhere in Central or South America?
