No, she said that she doesn't come for all of them and then mentioned the old lady we saw talking to Constantine and Dream's friend. Both immortals. She absolutely presonally comes for everyone who dies.

The counter to that, is that we see her for about half an hour - and she walks 5-6 people through their deaths.
Meanwhile approximately 3,000 humans died without her (and how many billions of non-humans?).

Elsewhere, we "know" that the personification of Dream isn't present whenever anyone dreams, just that dreaming, and sleep per se go haywire if the personification is out of action for a century. There's no hint that desire is personally present every time anyone feels desire for anything, or despair, or...

Elsewhere in literature, we know that Gaiman and Pratchett were personal friends, who influenced each other significantly; and we know that Pratchett's anthropomorphic personification of death explicitly isn't present for every death; just enough of them to keep things running smoothly (and again, that when he's out of action, things go to pot).

Taking all of that together with Death's own words about not turning up for everyone - I'm happy to go with the theory that death (with a lowercase d) happens to everyone (eventually including Hobb, Hettie and various deities and even the endless), whether or not the personification of Death (with a capital D) is present.

  3. I know. That's why I said "pretty much". However, having a RHD supercar built in a LHD country and driven in a LHD country seems... unlikely.

Either way, I've just reached E10, and assuming it's the same Lambo, then I was wrong, as this one is LHD.

Barbie's dream was taking place in a fantasy land.

Ken's dream was taking place in an indeterminate locale, but I don't think there is any particular reason to think that it wasn't where they live.

The Lamborghini was right hand drive, if that helps.

Which pretty much rules out N America, S America, Europe outside of UK&I, abut half of Africa and what? 2/3 of Asia?

Yep, the vast majority of us do not have one but a small percentage do and most of those are for sport or organised hunts. Also, back in 1926 guns laws were not as tight as they are now, so gun ownership would've been more common in that period, still not commonplace though.

TBF, there would have been a lot of old service revolvers, and even rifles around still in 1962 - sitting away in drawers.

1968 saw the first comprehensive gun laws drawn up (though gun ownership was never a universal right, or particularly common); and 1997 saw the first amnesty for handing weapons in to be decommissioned.

Of course, I absolutely agree that they still wouldn't be commonplace - just commonplace in comparison to current levels (and type of gun, which are now almost entirely shotguns).

Nope, they were in England.  (Unless you were kidding about the location, too.)

    Wait, what?

A] Since when did the British drive on the right hand side of the road?
B] When did the British start putting gas instead of petrol in their cars?
C] When did the British start calling 911 to contact the police?
D] For that matter, exactly where in Britain is "Buffalo, New York" located? - Same question for Mayhew, Minnesota

I think it was a pied crow.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pied_crow

It definitely had a much heavier beak than a typical magpie.

Pied crow or Pied raven, I'm going with crow on the principal of size. Definitely not a (Eurasian) magpie though.
Ultimately though, the easiest answer is that she was a dream bird.

  7. Even being serialised - they want an end point for each episode - even the Netflix model of releasing the entire season at once for binge-watching. Unlike Netflix shows, WoT is released an episode per week; so each episode needs a degree of being self-contained.

S01's problem was a lack of time (well, that and Covid) - especially in the first episode, where we're getting to know the principals.

Now that the introductions have been made, I don't really mind if they get their extra time by adding 2 lots of 60 minutes or 8 lots of 15 minutes.

This doesn't have the same characters, right?  (Wrong time period.)  But it's relevant because it's the same author?

Yep, same author, broadly similar set-up, themes, style etc, superior book series ;)

The book The Last Kingdom was published in 2004 and preceded Vikings by several years, so I wouldn’t call it a rip off at all. I’ve read the series and while it is kind of repetitive, it’s still very good. I’d call the show more of a companion series to Vikings since it’s mostly from the Saxon POV. David Dawson as Alfred was superb.

You're most likely right. In that light, could I please ask for a thread that's reserved for book talk up to what happened in the show? I myself hesitate to open the book thread as I'm only up to book three in reading and the book thread seems to be full of spoilers for the entire series. And I'd really like to have a discussion on the differences between what the first book did and what they opted for in the series.

You could try setting one up - but as BK said - it's tried and failed before. It would also have to be unmoderated by necessity, just asking people to be polite.
This is likely to be especially the case for this show, as it's mixing the books it uses in each season.

Part of the problem is that things get set up, or have implications for future seasons and material from future books - and people will want to discuss those.
Hell, even with moderation, we get enough book talk in the episode threads as it is.

Question: Is Book 1 talk allowed in this thread (and other episode threads) now that the season is over, or at least the parts that the showrunners have clearly decided to handle very differently? I think it could be interesting for the viewers to know the original intentions.

Of course if these are to be kept purely show-based, I'll keep to the book thread.

Should be no book talk IMO. Otherwise it'll dominate, and annoy the non-readers.

(Btw what happened with the Mat actor and why did he have to be recast? I haven't been able to find a straightforward answer.)

    That's because no-one who isn't involved, knows.

We just know he left and deleted social media accounts, and that nobody is commenting.

I doubt any main characters will be gay or lesbian which really sucks. Know what else sucks? I don't see this show being able to pull off any sort of trans representation either. Maybe someday.

    *Takes a deep breath*

Mat has been recast for season 2, with a new actor. Original Mat was supposed to go into the ways with the rest of them, but he didn't return after the Covid hiatus, necessitating re-writes.  Apparently, he's also deleted all his social media accounts, and no-one in the know seems to be saying anything.
We've no idea how much notice anyone had that he wasn't returning - but we do know that recasting takes time, especially if you want to recast well.

Pretty sure it's all been discussed earlier in this thread.

If he had a medallion, then there's no need to cut off their hands though.

Eh, her hands were tied, and he surmised correctly that she wasn't really Aes or she would have tried something. He also tortured Perrin, and if he was her warder she would have physically reacted.

Now, that's highly arrogant because if it was Ny, she might have nuked the entire camp. He doesn't know the larger picture though.

I'm not a fan of that theory - but IF it stands...

AS would have an easy way around it - as shown by the Wise Women vs Mat.

Besides, the medallion would only protect Valda himself, not the rest of his camp.

Besides, he's a comically evil sadistic arsehole - and that's probably reason enough for him

Valda's general unconcern with actually being channelled at is weird. I don't think he really believed Egwene was Aes Sedai, but when he saw that she did seem to be building towards channelling, he wasn't worried at all. Does he really believe the Light will protect him from witches?

    There's a theory that he's got a fox-head medallion - and is possibly the source for Mat's
