  1. http://www.barb.co.uk/whats-new/weekly-top-30?; sorry, should have included the link as a matter of course.Though it looks like that's weeks 1-2-3; not 4-5-6 My mistake there for not looking at the dates. They've also added Wk 4 since I looked - 2.8M; 7th for BBC2 (looks like it was pushed down the list by the return of Masterchef and Children In Need)
  2. I thought it was getting perfectly reasonable numbers? ETA: last 3 weeks viewing figures: Wk 4 3.09M - 1st highest for the week Wk 5 2.65M - 2nd highest for the week Wk 6 2.53M - 4th highest for the week I've also read elsewhere that it has been picked up for S2, but I haven't been able to verify that.
  3. Hey, it's one of the few things I went back and re-read once I joined the online fandom and had these things pointed out to me. I still haven't done a read through in full knowledge of the existence of various theories (or partial knowledge; I doubt anyone anywhere has a full knowledge of most of the theories). I'm looking to do that read-through once we have a date for Winds. Oooh, great news - I always felt that the Golden Compass - for all it's flaws, was good enough to get the sequels done; but that USA was the wrong country to do it, and that it suits TV better than film.I'm doing pretty well for book conversions currently; Last Kingdom on the Beeb, Dark materials on the Beeb, Shannara (guilty pleasure - hey, I was a tween; don't judge me!) on MTV, American Gods on Starz... Just need someone to pick up the Warlord Chronicles, the Gentleman Bastards or Fitz and the Fool and I'll be a very happy boy. Oh, and someone somewhere (not Sky) needs to do Nation properly. That one deserves a respectful adaptation to the big screen.
  4. You have the information, but just haven't put 2 and 2 together yet - would you like the answer? Clue (but not outright answer) Heavy Clue
  5. TBH, I miss doing it - despite all the criticism I see for S5; though even on this thread I can't avoid spoilers for it (thankfully, I also know that the season didn't go too far into the future; so it's worth the risk for this thread only - oh, and a D&E read-through next, hopefully)
  6. Polish translator agrees: http://www.latinpost.com/articles/88165/20151020/wind-winter-release-update-george-r-martin-complete-writing-polish.htmThis one also says http://www.newseveryday.com/articles/28808/20151020/winds-of-winter-update-george-r-r-martin-releases-another-book-but-not-the-one-fans-want.htmVarious others as well. At this stage, I think we can deduce that he's submitted his copy (or is just about to), and it's going through editting, which with GRRM should take an hour or two. Release for this one will be co-ordinated with the show, probably at a key time in the build up so that both can benefit from the hype of the other; I'd plump for 3-4 weeks before the first episode.
  7. You think that's going to stop Moffatt?
  8. I'm up for doing D&E as a re-read. I'd suggest creating new threads for each story though, just as the books are for bookwalkers; that way everyone can come to them when they're ready. As a group read / re-read prject though, call it 4 days between stories? As for when to fit it in - I'd say that between books 3&4 really is the best place for them
  9. I suspect the number of posts will increase once this airs in it's home nation. Whilst we now have an air date, we still haven't had any promotion yet though; so quite possibly not.
  10. Yay, we have an air date for the UK. Host broadcaster is getting this programme a full 2 weeks after the US. Oh joy! http://www.tvwise.co.uk/2015/10/bbc-two-sets-premiere-date-for-the-last-kingdom/
  11. Official Trailer: Not massively dissimilar to the "first look" above
  12. Inside the Last Kingdom: Shield Wall: 9th Century: Wessex: Uhtred: England Is Born: Trailer 1: Trailer 2: Preparing for Battle: First Look:
  13. So this is airing on Saturday, though still without a release dsate, or even a "coming soon" for its country of origin. A little surprised there's no movement on this board currently, and furious with the BBC for not showing it at home.
  14. I really don't think Sansa lasts long in the case of a red keep under seige within a captured kings landing. Worst of both worlds for her. As for Edmure, I've always been of the opinion that if Robb wanted him to act in a certain way, then it's on Robb to give the right orders and enough information. The whole "I only told you do defend Riverun" thing is grasping at straws to blame someone else and deflect from your own failure. Last I heard, bosses are considered responsible for the actions of their juniors, whether in business or military.
  15. Should this be in the media section? or National Anthem thread? Independent: David Cameron says he 'will not dignify' claims he put his genitals in the mouth of a dead pig
  16. OK, I think something has been lost in translation. The sexuality of Loras and Renly isn't really up for debate in the fandom. Most "deniers" are new to the fandom, and simply missed it, see the evidence and go away again. There are obviously still a few who see all the evidence but still deny, but that generally says more about the person than the books - much like climate change, or evolution deniers.
  17. Shimpy - I think you're still having difficulty in realising how much prior knowledge, and analysing you are doing compared to most people who are just reading a book. You've taken 16(?) weeks to get this far, with knowledge of who the characters all are, what they're like, and are spending time dissecting the book section by section, with people who are already familiar with all the theories. Imagine just how much you might miss if you had none of that prior knowledge that makes that small clue leap off the page, and that large clue utterly irrelevant as it goes nowhere; had read the same 3,000 pages in 3 weeks instead; had no-one to analyse with (including yourself); still struggled to remember the name of such-and-such, let alone details of his character that we haven't necessarily been exposed to yet. For most of us, we simply didn't pick up that Renly&Loras were gay, or that there were questions about Jon's parentage or... We would then reread taking our time, or join fan communities and see the theories and evidence, and have it make sense. Of course there are those who will deny the evidence even once presented, but then, there are people that deny climate change, evolution or the shape of this planet.
  18. On first reading, I was too engrossed in the story to be doing much in the way of analysing what I'd just read; and didn't realise that there was all much to analyse either - that came later when I put down book 3 (4 wasn't out yet for me), and the brain started processing what it had just read. I had a vague feeling that I was missing something about Jon, completely missed that Renly and Loras, hadn't really twigged that prophecy was actually a thing rather than hallucinations/dreams etc etc. At the time, I don't think I gave any thought whatsoever to Robb and Jeyne - after pausing I remember deciding that it was probably a political move on behalf of the Westerlings to marry a king, and a king who was winning everything at the time. I think you also have to remember, the vast majority of bookwalkers would have read these, for the first time, not knowing anything at all about them. Not knowing that GRRM is famous for inverting tropes, and telegraphed twists; not knowing that it's inspired by pieces of real history, not knowing that here is a fantasy series that stands up to analysis, not having anyone to analyse it with had we wanted to. We would find the books and then the fandom and analysis; not really the other way around. Essentially you're coming from about the same position I was in for my first re-read. I could remember the main plot beats, but not necessarily how they were arrived at, I knew roughly who was who, and I knew roughly where the story was going, and that the whole thing was worth paying attention to, but couldn't remember any of the details. Mind you, I still hadn't found the fan community at the time of my first re-read - I discovered that when adverts for the show started up, and I was trying to find some stuff on it to see if Ali would be interested. Still haven't read them through again with knowledge of most of the theories out there.
