  1. This season has been exciting for me in an interesting way. I usually back someone in the first week or two and  root for them as far as they can go. This year I’ve had different faves over the weeks.

Week 1 - I liked Mel C she came out and did a fun Cha Cha and personality was so much appealing  than when the other Spice Girl Mel B competed and I remembered how she struggled with the votes. However Mel B went further because her dance training really helped her.

Week 2 it was all Amanda that was great Foxtrot that would have been a 40 if it was later in the season.

Week 3 Olivia came on my radar with a really good Tango. I didn’t want to like it but I couldn’t deny how well she danced.

Week 4 Melora was excellent on the Quickstep. This became my favourite dance up to Week 4.
On Villians Night I also noted the amazing lifts and timing of Iman”s Argentine Tango.

Week 5 was Kendra’s Night. That Rumba was so good it should have been a 40

Week 6 Horror Night was an incredible break through for Iman and Daniella

Week 7 For me Best dance by far was Melora Viennese Waltz relay She should have received all the points.

Week 8 Even though we could have had more ChaCha reimbursement Iman rhythm Nation was the essence of Janet Jackson. I also loved how well he did against Melora in the dance off. Suni also finally brought some joy to her dancing.

Overall my favourites going into the Semis are Iman and Melora. And Suni -I’ll be disappointed if any of them goes home.

  2. I’m not sure if there’s a huge number crossover fans from SYTYCD, but there maybe which is a disadvantage for Suni. This music is probably the best known dance from that show. Even DWTS Lindsay and her partner Cole did a re-boot of that dance on SYTYCD and it didn’t capture the original. I’m sure Sasha will take it in an entirely different direction, but it’s tough when iconic music is associated with an iconic dance. Still But it can happen That’s why Jordan Fisher was such an amazing dancer. He did better Jive than the original to Proud Mary.

  3. I was hoping that Iman would get anything but VWaltz for Redemption because the height difference kills the top line so necessary for the rise and fall.

Tango should demonstrate an overall improvement since his Foxtrot dance off was really  good.  The song choice is excellent for Ballroom Tango.

I hope the Jazz goes as well as the Contemporary but we never know. The other Contemporary dances will be pulling at the heart strings - I don’t know but 4 in one night might just be too many.

  5. I liked Corbin but for me Jordan was able to dance technically better ballroom. When I saw the tour in Windsor Jordan replaced Keo who was sick for a couple of pro dances so he was insanely good.Salsa being more of a social dance was right up Corbins alley in terms of ultimate swag.  As far as Trio dancing goes this is my ultimate favourite as well.

  6. Well Mark and Derek were entertaining to be sure and they had some great moments. Here’s my top 5 all time faves - with a 6th one added this season /the magic for me  from many pros across the seasons

Top Paso Doble  Mel B and Maks - season 5 -it was just everything - a Dominatrix theme that turned the Man’s dance on its head - Mel’s costume alone could pull focus from one of the sexiest male pros ever. That costume and subsequent idea of the woman taking charge was replicated by other pros for years afterwards.

Top Quickstep  Helio and Julianne -season 5 -a perfect blend of solid QS cartoon character costumes a top box office movie and aSmokin ending! It’s on everyone’s list as one of the most iconic dances ever.

Top Jive Jordan and Lindsay Proud Mary -Season 25 (inspired by Marks choreography with Page Van Zant) Jordan is the best male dancer who has been on the show. He’s well trained in other styles but made the transition  to traditional ballroom seamlessly.  It was never more evident than doing a Mark dance better than Mark.

Top Argentine Tango Gilles and Cheryl Season 8 This was the first season that Argentine Tango was introduced to the show. The pros weren’t familiar with the dance but they were eager to learn. This dance was minimalist in intricacy but it was smouldering . We totally believed the Frenchman was Argentinian, and that’s what made it so exciting to watch. Cheryl avoided the trap of making it too staccato ballroom Tango so that the circular dancing and Sexy engauchos propelled the tension.

Top Viennese Waltz -James and Jenna (Sharna) season 23 -Not only did James capture the essence of evil in the Joker he danced it beautifully.  Hinch totally disappeared in the character and it was glorious. You Don’t Own Me was a perfect dance for a control freak killer and his crazy sadistic girlfriend.

Top Contemporary Iman and Daniella Season 30.  I was one of those who felt Contemporary needs to stay on SYTYCD. But this was not one of those over angst “breast cancer”or “I hate my Dad “kind of dances. This was true suspense right from the music to the movement - the demented smiles and utterly daring and spine tingling lifts. I held my breath until the pay off stare at Len. Genius.

  7. Cheryl has had a lot to deal with and Covid. She says she’s fine but there could be long haul effects which can be quite intense, especially when her health has been compromised by alcohol. I wish her the best, but this should not be this teams year to win.

  8. Reactions to tonight- my man IMAN The guy gets 7 points lower than Melora and doesn’t hit bottom 3.  In fact he hasn’t been in the bottom yet this season.  I agree the Cha Cha was thin but the rest of the dance was fun.I hope Daniman get a Jazz  or Salsa next week side by side Iman kills the choreo. And we know how great his Contemporary is. Sure he’s limited by his size to do a pretty ballroom dance but he really did well on that Foxtrot dance off. His improvement is amazing.

I thought Cody’s Paso was an improvement but the choreo was really simple and pedantic.
I’m totally over Amanda. I thought that Jazz was disappointing. The dance didn’t hit hard enough and the lift was ugly. Either she’s playing possum or she’s stuck being a Rockette.
I’m also over JoJo and her Cirque du Rumba and Cirque du Salsa. The Rumba especially bugged me because there was just all intensity no tenderness.

I HATED THAT Melora and Jimmie were bottom. Jimmie did a good ChaCha but he got the curse of going first. As for Melora,Like JoJo she needs a lot of judges help to keep her in this but I’m glad she’s in for next week. She did a good Paso. It was a bit frenetic and a bit wobbly at times but it was the right attack

Suni danced a good Samba but for me that wasn’t a 40. The technique was lacking a bit in the footwork but the fun and the Samba bounce were there.

I know Olivia danced well but she doesn’t have a fan base, nor should she given the reason she’s even on the show.  This week was a certain sabotage. Olivia didn’t do sexy and she was marked down for that. The AT was definitely too safe. But for me I’d much rather watch her and Val’s rumba not that demented dance macabre from JoJo.

  10. Hello all count me in as another Team Daniman I’m still replaying that Contemporary two weeks in. Of all the contestants this season Iman  is the only one who could have executed Dani’s choreo with such commitment and confidence. That is what sold me.  . My favourite was Melora’s V Waltz - that was glorious and Artem is a true 10 Dancer and it shows. My finalists would be Iman, Melora and Jimmie maybe Suni.
However it would be awesome to see 53 year old Melora at the end as well as Iman The Giant I think these would be a great finals and who doesn’t want to see a Dani Freestyle?
Olivia has had training maybe not as much as pro JoJo or Rockette Amanda but not even pro dancers have natural dance position.
