  1. Charli with all those accolades still isn’t a world class performer?  I wasn’t a Charli fan until that Foxtrot. For me, Her dancing is some of the most beautiful ballroom I’ve seen on this show. And as Len said with the Tango she dances beyond her years. Not all Contemporary and ballet trained dancers make the transition to ballroom the way Charli has on this show. She’s a special talent, just not world class according to some.
There have been “stars” with questionable celebrity come on this show from children of politicians to reality stars famous for having sex. Social media is yet another medium and if a young teen can promote her love of dance and her talent to a massive audience to me it’s not a bad thing.

don't know but it just seems to me that there was more variety in previous seasons with almost every couple doing Quickstep, Jive, Cha Cha, Rhumba, Foxtrot, Paso or Tango (either style but not both as Charli did), and either Contemporary or Jive, but not both.  Or am I just misremembering

I would guess the remaining couples may get Paso Doble or Samba  or Argentine Tango next week along with a ballroom dance they haven’t done.

Charli and Mark have done Quickstep Foxtrot Tango, Argentine Tango - they will probably Viennese Waltz next to finnish up the Ballroom Syllabus  and on the Latin side they did Rumba Jive Cha Cha and Salsa and will probably do either Samba or Paso in week 9 to complete the Latin x syllabus  additionally they did Jazz and Contemporary early which is good to be well over before thee finale.

Wayne and Witney have had similar styles but at least half of the dances he’s done so far were-heavily infused with hip hop. Cha Cha, Jazz, Contemporary, Samba and now Salsa.all had hip hop elements and that Contemporary looked more like a hip hop dance. It  works for him but the judges asked them not to do too much hip hop after their first dance.

think there's a fine line between confidence and overconfidence and, for me, that comment didn't cross the line into overconfident or arrogant.

Well all I know is if Charli said “I’m a world class performer” she’d be getting dragged to tomorrow. Would she be able to reasonably say that? Maybe since she’s been on a show dancing with the Houghs. Wayne said it and it felt a bit off putting because what defines “world class” running around hosting game shows?   Are we supposed to be grateful this world class performer is slumming it on DWTS? he then went on to explain how he’s putting up performances while some others are technical dancers. It’s ironic because for me his Salsa was great technically but not his best performance.  I really don’t like it when contestants start defining themselves to voters, just let the voters decide.  I’m still on the Wayne Train and he’s wonderful. Hopefully it was just stress talking imho.

think Trevor definitely got lower votes than Vinny I think and without the save could've gone if it was a double automatic elimination. Trevor and Heidi have been bottom 2 several times. The fake "this is hard" from the judges was a waste because obviously Vinny was passed time to go

Definitely Trevor is being saved by the show because host Emma needs a co-host for the DWTS tour.  The Relay was all about getting rid of Vinny. I wouldn't be surprised if they push Trevor into the finals.  Fake works on this show.

Mark is so talented to create incredible routines that work well for her. I wouldn’t hate her winning. I tend to rewatch her dances and Wayne’s. Sometimes Shangelas. I’ve been voting for Wayne, Shangela, and Daniel—not Charli, even though I’d like her to continue. I figure she has enough voters.

Although I love Wayne ever since "Who's Line is it Anyway"and vote for him I'm starting to get annoyed with Wayne's attitude. Why did he have to say he's a World Class performer?  He's working on technique and can compete, he doesn't need to get haughty, and maybe all the jobs other than dance are getting to him.  If any other contestant said that on this show, they would be dragged for the arrogance.

I may start to vote for Charli because even though I wasn't a fan of her contemporary or jazz due to her obvious advantage and I just didn't like the choreo,  I love what Mark is doing on the Ballroom dances. He's making these dances cool again because of his expertise in the styles and the outstanding choreography that Mark weaves within the style.  But it really doesn't matter how good Mark is, without a talent like Charli ballroom dances fall flat fast. Ballroom is all about style and technique, they don't rely on personality which drives Latin party dances.  I love what the team is doing, and I want to see more.  I very much doubt she'll win because the youth that follow her rarely vote she could be a shock boot. This is the second week in a row that Charli and Mark were called last. I do think the show is working to keep her alive, but the votes will tell the story. Wayne is so well known among the demographic and Gaby has bachelor nation.  And every little boy who ever wanted to dress up and dance is voting hard for Shangela.  And yet a Mark Ballas freestyle is something to look forward to. Hopefully it will happen.

Sasha and Daniela’s dance during one of the filler segments was on fire. I love it when the pros burn it up.

Sasha kept up but Daniela is a showstopper. What a massive talent.

  7. Impressions of tonight:

Trevor and Emma - cute theme but Trevor had trouble doing basic Salsa it needs to be grounded not hoppy  and the lifts were laboured and  messy.

Shangela and Gleb - she was Scary Spice I’m sure Mel B would have loved it. Problem is her footwork is terrible. Mel B nailed the technique,in her season. If Shangela gets serious about foot placement she is a threat, but so far she’s not where the front runners are.

Daniel and Britt - choreography started slow but soon picked up. The silent section was really powerful. I thought it was by far his best dance

    Wayne and Witney

    - I really liked the Salsa and his footwork was impeccable. Latin dances fit well on Wayne even if it’s heavily inspired by hip hop. He was a tad serious during the dance, I’m sure he wanted to nail everything which he did but I missed the fun he usually brings.

    Heidi and Artem

Heidi is a technician but it’s tough to project emotion when you keep it in. Unfortunately she read too much of the on line comments and it messed her up. That contemporary was just bad choreography mixed with her state of mind it just wasn’t going to go well.

    Gaby and Val

That was a whole lotta male skin and not a lot of good Samba. The basics were okay but the legs were loose and awkward, the voltas were messy. I was shocked that got a 40. Frankly Shangela did it better.

    Vinny and Koko

Well Koko was clever in giving a lot of side by side arm motions so Vinny didn’t have to dance in hold. Tango is a glide not a lurch, but he showed some improvement but there wasn’t a lot of Tango there.

Charli and Mark -For an international Tango they had a few elements in there that are at least American tango, but no matter it was fantastic. The Blur song was the perfect amount of explosive energy that really propelled this dance. Mark really put this style of dance back on the map as one of the greats. Charli”s intensity was palatable. It rocked and would take first place in any showdance competition. Definitely my favourite of the night.

    Relays

    Vinny vs Trevor

I actually think Vinny did okay it went from stompy to Samba. Trevor was more consistent .

    Shangela vs Daniel

Sloppy wins over Stiff - Shangela has tons of musicality she now needs to get cleaner lines and footwork. Daniel did well given his significant limitation of not being able to hear the music.

    Wayne vs Heidi

Heidi had a struggle letting go and even on this dance there wasn’t complete abandon. Wayne did his thing and reminded us why he got a perfect score in Samba

    Gaby vs Charli

I thought this would be a contest but Gaby  is like Shangela all about the sizzle and not the substance. I thought Charli is really starting to take notes about being more expressive as she was pretty sassy on this dance.

Unfortunately Wayne has got another wrong song for the 90s night- 'Motown phily' to which they will be doing a salsa?? I want to see how they can pull that off.

Disagree. Wayne got a perfect score for  a Samba to Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock's It Takes Two. It wasn’t Samba music by a long shot. A hip hop to Samba is much more difficult to pull off than a hip hop tune to an easy Salsa 4 count imho.  If they didn’t penalize them for the hip hop Samba they would be pretty inconsistent to go after them on the Salsa.

I still think Emma and Trevor are hooking up, although the producers did cool down the romance/showmance angle because of the backlash regarding Sasha, who may or may not be okay with it. I can't think of any other reason they are bending over backwards to keep boring Trevor around. They conveniently manage to give him a showdown with Vinny which he can't lose. Of course, it's just a theory and I have no proof of any of this LOL.

Agree.  The guy has shown very little in terms of dancing so why not stand around and lift Emma and then fall seductively on a table? Okay, I laughed out loud at the stupid choreography.  He's a snore fest. There is next to no growth in terms of dance technique.  DWTS official twitter re-tweeted his asinine tweet - eww-which says nothing about dancing, just about being her bedroom boy - tell me again that the show is tamping down the hook up?  The producers don't care about growth they care about viewers watching, and this kind of salacious junk gets people to watch.  He will probably go farther than he should because the show knows the demographic are suckers for this crap, personally I'd rather see the end of him sooner rather than later.  But of course, he gets paired with Vinny for the Relay.  I would rather he got paired next to Wayne and then we'd really see if Trevor's Samba improved. Because if Trevor was so good getting such a high score, he should be paired next to someone of his supposed massively improved dance ability, not the weakest dancer left. Talk about a set up. My guess is they are doing what they can to carry this dead weight as far as they can, so Emma has a partner to host the tour.

Unpopular opinion: I rather Vinny win than either of the D'Amelios.

He's not very good but at least he's trying. And though he's a reality star, that's far more legit than being a social media influencer and social media influencer's mom. I agree, he should've went home already, and I would hate to see anyone else leave before him (aside from the non-star D'Amelios).

Wow I totally would HATE for Vinnie to stay over anyone, including Charli and Heidi.  I like to be entertained. This buffoon does not entertain me in the least.

Normally, I don't care if Trevor and Emma were hooking up but it is distasteful for the show to hint about it since Sasha is there

Yeah, adultery isn't something to celebrate.  There have been hook ups real and imagined with someone else's husband or wife over the years and it's just damn disrespectful. Even if Sasha and Emma are not together anymore, they're still legally married. The show pushing the story overtly earlier and then subtly with the storyline of the overwrought contemporary of her being his dead wife was tasteless. She didn't need to be his 'wife' she could just be a ghost or an angel of death, like in All That Jazz.

That, and with how the make-up team went all out with each couple this season for their dance, they essentially left no time for many of them to get out of their costume and into another one. So it would look real funny for them to be in matching costumes but then see Brandon, Heidi, Shangela, Gleb, etc. be in their o

Maybe -but during season 25 Jordan Fisher was originally a Werewolf with a bunch of fur on his face and fangs and wolf body for his Paso Doble and Lindsay was a blond little red riding hood... Then for the Monster Mash the fur was gone and Lindsay was a red headed harlequin clown.  I think the show being 2 hours live need to think about how the costume changes will work and select teams that dance earlier or later depending on the wardrobe changes. It may have been the Covid protocols this time, but to keep people interested they need to think about it moving forward because this was a fail.

  14. ETA: I think I have a reason why they’re keeping Heidi around. The theory is strategic. It’s pretty obvious that when Heidi goes her votes will go over to Charli , who, at the moment is getting through without the boost. However, her being called safe last tonight is a signal to her fans that they need to vote, and if she gets into trouble with the votes moving forward my guess is her mom will be the sacrificial lamb to keep the DeMelio name on top of the leaderboard.

  15. There’s a real “feel sorry for Vinnie” ground swell after he was criticized for his crap he calls dancing from Len. Then the Jersey Shore fanbase got all motivated when they never were so motivated for Snooki who was a far superior performer. He’s still a douche even commenting that he kept up with the male pros on the team dance. Yeah right Vinnie. Narcissists like this goombah are a dime a dozen. If I want to be entertained by useless individuals I can watch Judge Judy.  He has only been in the bottom once whilst Trevor and Heidi have been there twice. So who’s next. Hopefully the relays will finally knock him out or somebody else will be going home.

  16. Yes the team dances were performed  with their original costumes. I thought everything would have been better with  more of a team look.  I think the COVID protocols came into play here, especially with yet another pro testing positive-they all had less rehearsal time and they probably had to forego the larger production numbers.

  17. So I watched Charli Shangela and Wayne because they really are the only ones I’m interested in.

I won’t vote for Charli on principle, but man that choreo was so damn good, probably one of the best Argentine Tangos with the Halloween theme. When Derek says he likes the more intense tango I much prefer what Mark does with how an Argentine style is different than ballroom Tango. The back bend  exorcist walk was just so Incredibly unexpected creepy and perfect for the atmosphere. I love how Mark issues her abilities in such creative ways.Could we have seen a little more erotica? Yes but she’s 18 and I know the pros try not to go too far when they are younger.

Shangela finally got her perfect score and it was because it was a fairly simple dance, it could have been more intricate but Gleb doesn’t have the background in Jazz so simple sells well. Honestly I enjoy their rehearsal packages more than the dancing.

Wayne did well enough but his partner isn’t  very creative and that’s what was wrong with the routine.. I wished he had Daniella for a partner because her choreography is so much better than the repetition in Witneys hip hop, and she definitely would have done so much more with the Halloween theme music.
Too bad Jordan left over Heidi, the woman is now a 2 time bottom- seems to be the killer of first timers in the bottom first Joseph now Jordan.

who the hell is still voting for douche Vinny?

    • Love 2
  18. It looks like they are actually doing a little mini competition or battles between the competitors.  Here's my unscientific predictions

Argentine Tango Charli vs Gaby - Winner - Charli

I think Charli got a massive Argentine Tango song. I'm surprised Mark is going traditional, so given they are both strong technical dancers, I pick Charli on the music. The dynamics of traditional Argentine  music cannot be overstressed.

Tango - Heidi vs Jordin - Winner Heidi

Heidi vs Jordin - I pick Heidi to win it because Artem is so good at ballroom and the music they have is infectious. It's not Tango, but neither is Jordin's.

Paso Doble - Vinny vs Daniel - Winner Daniel

    The battle of the stompers!

Vinny stomps but I think Daniel will be able to feel the beat and be less stompy.

    Contemporary   Wayne vs Trevor

This will be Wayne's comeback - Wayne will win this head to head match.

    Jazz - Shangela

It's a perfect time for Shangela to shine without having to get nit picky on technique. Team Sheb will get the higher scores they're craving.

    Thoughts?

Carrie Ann saying that maybe this contest was in some ways the hardest for Charli was ridiculous.

Yeah, that is ridiculous. She's not the youngest who ever competed on this show, so you can't blame immaturity since she has had the opportunity to perform a ridiculous number of times for an audience. She's like some contestants on So You Think You Can Dance.  They have Impeccable technique, and you think after the audition they would excel, but without the passion for the style of dance it just falls flat

What is mind blowing to me is she's a contemporary dancer, who should be able to emote. It's the difference between an okay dancer and a star.  The bigger problem is she has to compete with people who totally connect with an audience, Shangela and Wayne.  Their technique is not perfect, but every time they perform, they make people feel something.

  21. I watched a few dances from last night on youtube.  I thought Shangela still needs to be more specific in her foot work, but this was a vast improvement. and man is she entertaining.  I saw Gabby for a hot second got bored by the artiface and skipped it.  As much as I love Koko (she was my absolute fave on SYTYCD and thought she should have won) I just can't with that douche bag Vinny, who thinks that his American Italian bullshit can fool anyone. He absolutely sucks but people are getting roped in, because Vinny is sad... just like folks got roped in by that idiot Andy Dick or that Bones guy.

So, Wayne Brady had an off night. Yes, anyone who was sick and then comes out and dances should be commended. But truthfully, he needs to get better.  He does so well on the Wayne Brady movement and personality. But that comes at a cost -and we lose some basic technique. This dance was a mess. Terrible dance position, hopping instead of floating and it appeared that there were footwork and position mistakes.  I want this guy to win because he's just great at what he does and I look forward to his dances., but if he drops technique so completely like he did on this I am not sure that he will be deserving of the win. He's got to come back and make us forget that dance.  If there is a redemption dance this will be Wayne's.

Anyway, I also watched Charli and Mark.  She is vapid but that doesn't seem to bother her. It bugs that she is good enough to compete on SYTYCD. Would I waste a vote on her?  Absolutely not.

But oh, that Foxtrot. It was ballroom at its best. They were the epitome of Foxtrot, debonair and beautiful, like David Larabee and Sabrina Fairchild. She was delicate and gorgeous in her designer ball gown, Mark rocking a tuxedo with the flair of Fred Astaire. Impeccable lines. Cool choreography that's rooted in technique. Beautiful russian split -not normally a Foxtrot but it just worked as a performance piece. The only problem was Charli doesn't exude personality. That makes a huge difference. I think you can see the difference on a couple of outstanding Foxtrots Mark did with his partners. especially Kristi and Mark (this was their first freaking dance on the show in season 6) and the Foxtrot Trio that Mark and Sadie Robertson with Emma Slater did. Sadie was younger than Charli and not as experienced as a dancer but her performance quality was superior. I also just noticed that this is a Four Seasons song, and later Mark was going to be Frankie Valli on Broadway.  He really felt that music.  and the choreography is still one of the best Trio dances. Kind of cool.

    And Kristi and Mark -

Why are they having such lackluster theme nights? I like a few of Michael Bubles songs, but they are not very versatile songs. And again, wish they would have guest judges that know about the technique of ballroom dancing

In defense of Michael Bublé, his repertoire is probably the best for ballroom dancing.  I'm spit balling here, but I think ballroom dancing will finally take centre stage because of the strict ballroom tempo in Bublé's songs.  He obviously isn't a dancer, but his music really informs him as to how dancers move.  Derek Hough choreographed him on his video for his new song Higher and he learned enough dance to look ok in the video.  He may even do a version of it on the show because it's Argentine Tango moves not being done this week by the contestants and it could show Bublé busting a few moves. That would be kind of cool.
