  1. The TV show vs. what re-cappers see in live feeds are so far apart at this point as to be from two different planets.  The story editor is spinning a version of this mess that is so at odds with what is really happening and is a boring one as well.  I get that that is how most of these "trash school genre" reality shows work but it is assumed there are enough couch potatoes interested in the unreality they make up.  But with ratings through the root cellar for this show the fantasyland story editing is just making things worse.

Next week the old, former big three networks start their new seasons pretty much.  Wonder if there will be anyone left on earth that will still watch the TV version of this mess at that point.  I know I won't.  But I'll read the live feeds stuff with the funny, witty comments the re-cappers throw in more than likely.  That's where the entertainment is.

These producers missed the boat on trying to save the mess they made by trying to spin stuff the way they have.  The disconnect is so great now and the social media so prevalent showcasing what is really going on with re-cappers and you tube that those of us that don't watch the live feeds still know what they are showing.  They just shoot themselves in the foot trying to make up these storylines so divorced from reality.

  2. I'm not watching this but I saw a commercial that was enough to make me come here.

Are they actually considering giving people on a reality show guns?  Or was that a hypothetical question?

You don't have to watch the show to enjoy the train wreck.  Some of the funniest posts are in the live feed thread where one or two people here post what is really going on as opposed to what they show on TV.  And live feed recaps plus comments are some of the funniest and snarky (minus the animals ones of course) you will read anywhere about anything.

And no guns so far but they do have two hunting bows.

  3. Right person went home.  Sorry for her but that was one of the worst jobs all season let alone tonight.

I liked the "action figure" one the best but the winner was okay as I'd rate it second behind the green/red action figure one.  Didn't like the minimalist one.  Think "doing something different" was just a rationalization and not something visionary.  Looked like something you'd see in almost any video game.

  4. Bri sleeps, steals eggs and food, sits in Chris' lap, and has sex with Chris.  Oh, and does yoga.  The animals were interfering with her pursuit of those things. When the farmer came and told her what needed to be done she did not do it and she lied about what he said to the others. She doesn’t just benignly ignore the animals, she actively prevents others from knowing they need more care and helping them.  She is completely selfish and  willfully refusing to do what needs to be done on a task she has taken on. If she didn’t want to do it she could say so.

Last night she lied to the vets about what she is doing, tried to cancel the vet appointment for Monday, and complained that the vets were 'so negative', like they were so unfair and picking on her or something.  When told they needed more water, she wanted an automatic water filler instead of just adding more water manually. It's two cows!! Geez.  She complains about everything she's been told the cows need. She complained when told the calf would need hand bottle feeding the first month. She's just a lazy shiftless young woman whose only interest is in lazing about and getting laid.  I find her disgusting. If she hadn't lied about her knowledge of animals, lied about how she was caring for them, and then actively interfered with improving their care then then this wouldn’t be such a problem..

The fact that most of the other ‘pioneers’ are worthless too and spend their days doing yoga and talking and ‘resting’ doesn’t make Bri’s actions or lack of action any less culpable. Her specific task affects living animals.

And twenty is plenty old enough to be a responsible human being. She’s not a kid.  She just acts like she’s thirteen.

ETA:  I got my feed back!  I changed browsers.  I hope that was it.

I agree with everything you said.  If you say you want to take care of the animals and don't and also don't let anyone else know what is going on and lie about it, it is on you.  Period.  20 years old is way way old enough.  She isn't some irresponsible kid.  She just acts like one.  Neglect the animals you begged to be in charge of, lie how things are going there, hide the info from others, try to keep the vets away all the while she is stealing food and lying about that too.  She never works at all anymore.  She just has never ending sex with a complete stranger on national TV.

Yeah, I'm not enabling that behavior by trying to explain it away because at 20 you don't have to be responsible at all.  Yes, you do.  You have to be responsible pretty much all your life and by 20 you have to be responsible at an adult level.  Majority of soldiers who served in our wars were 20 or younger.  Imagine if all of them acted like her.

  5. I would pay to see aliens come and visit (and hopefully, abduct) Bella.  So if there are any out there monitoring TV show forums on the internet, and I am sure there are tons cause what else do aliens have to do in the universe otherwise, please "make it so."  I will pay you via my agent Red with a thousand hemp bracelets or hip bracers.  Your choice.  (Though you may not have wrists or hips).

I got to say the only person that retained my respect in this Dysfunctiontopia was Jonathan.  He stayed true to his principles, remained friendly to all, worked hard and is undoubtedly at this very moment thanking again his version of God for injuring his thumb enough to get him out of there alive.

  6. Friday night ratings are in -- and it's actually getting worse.

While Utopia was in 2nd place ratings-wise -- a whopping 0.7 rating/3 share in 18-49 demo, which is OK for a Friday night -- it was 4th in total viewers, basically down 20% in rating and viewers from Tuesday's show.  And since there is no longer any Sunday night show with a healthy lead-in from football, I doubt it is going to get any better once new episodes of NCIS and The Voice (and The Flash on the CW) show up on Tuesday nights.

That's great news.  And I'm just messing around with this show until The Amazing Race starts on it's new night of Friday on the 26th.

  7. That was the most hilariously fake apology letter ever written since Dave obviously didn't write it.  He probably didn't know what half the words meant when the producers shoved it under his nose to sign.   They probably told him it will "make for great TV" and added that in return for playing along they would send him off with an added bonus of a free bunch of bananas so he would be like three bananas up on that "muskrat-ass" that stole his.  That will show 'em!

  8. I don't think Sasha is doing some kind of "number."  She seems a shy, sensitive soul in a jaded, cynical world and is trying to cope the best she can.

We all have coping mechanisms.  That is simply part of the process of living.  I personally find turning them into some "label" from the latest pop psychology book totally mystifying.  It's just life and people living it.  Some ways of behaving may grate on someone but it doesn't make that other person somehow "bad" in an objective way.  It's just what people do as they struggle to survive and grow and live in a crazy, cruel world.

She hurts no one.  She isn't out blowing up people with bombs or trying to hurt others' feelings or threatening physical violence or even involved in malicious gossip of backbiting against anyone.  She just isn't as "tough" as many people and I say bravo for that.  I call that being a pretty sweet person.  The kind the world needs more of, not less.

  9. No problem DeLurker! If it weren't for Zahdii's recaps, I wouldn't have even have known about it! So credit goes to her and everyone else who tried to do something.  I would bet that those instances that she has written about have NOT been broadcast on air. I missed episode 2 because of work, but I think that they are selectively broadcasting things that aren't too awful.   Of course, no one is really watching so, they could be abusing all the animals they want and having sex on TV and no one would really know.

Thanks for you efforts on behalf of the animals.  Tremendously good work.  As a vegetarian I consider killing animals for food an act of cruelty.  But as a pragmatist I understand that that practice isn't gonna go away any time soon nor do I have any legal right to stop it.  I have no moral right to judge meat eaters either though I can remain upset by the act itself of killing living beings from my pov.

But stopping cruelty to those animals humans in society have agreed have the right to remain alive is a very good thing too and in this case there are legal ramifications involved and things can indeed be done.  And getting the people who have the clout involved here is an awfully good thing that you have done.  So props to you.

I still think production will sneak in someone to clean up the worst of this mess if for no other reason than to keep animal rights groups off their case.  But then again this is Fox and they could go with the old show biz motto of "there is no such thing as bad publicity" to hope the show gets a ratings boost from all of this hitting say the 6 o'clock news.  Yes, I am that cynical about Fox.  So people like you and our intrepid re-capper and others keeping their feet to the fire is a real good thing.  Cause if they actually do think negative publicity will help them they will find out otherwise.  People tend to get pretty upset when animals are abused.

  10. Yeah I saw that too.  An awkward situation grew even worse.  Far far worse.

Meanwhile Crixus gets a thumbs up cause another Roman lady finds him hot.  Not because he went toe to toe with the champion of the ludus for a brief moment there.

Meanwhile Ashur gets a tramp stamp version of the brand of the brotherhood.  Not his fault he and his buddy got it that way but he is already starting to slip into the role of a slinky, can do guy for Batiatus.

  11. I found the names in an unexpected way.  I thought to find a site for the TV series but when I entered Spartacus TV on Goggle and one of the options was Spartacus TV Series Cast I just clicked on it and low and behold right on the Google search page itself across the top were all the actors and their character's names.  No chance of any spoiling like from a site if you are interested.

Except they had Oenomaus listed by his title of Doctore instead so I had to look him up and his name is the hardest to remember how to spell, grrrr.  Or even pronounce.  But I guess a Latin Oe = "a" as in "apple" sound as in An-o-may-us.  With second "a" being a long "a" instead.  That right?

Well at least from now on in this season he is Doctore.  But when we go back to the Spartacus revolt timeline next season, well he recently lost that job at the end of last season so it will be back to Oenomaus and I'll need another refresher course so I'm gonna try to keep calling him Oenomaus from now on so I don't have to go through a whole re-education process again..

  12. "I love it when a plan comes together."  That is what I imagine Batiatus saying anyway after his bratty overgrown kid rival goes down for the count.

But poor redshirt newbie wannabe gladiator guy.  First he gets sentenced to the mines all because Batiatus is having a bad hair day.  Or kicked-in face day anyway.  Then as he dies the last thing he hears is Ashur explaining that Batiatus had ordered it and the mines would have been nicer after all.  Actor playing Ashur was good in that scene showing that he isn't a sadist and didn't enjoy the killing at all keeping the character from the two dimensional cardboard realm as a result.

Far more serious stuff with the forced sex between Gannicus and Melitta.  Brings home how horrible slavery is almost more than any other thing we have seen so far.  And inter-cutting that scene with Oenomaus and old school Doctore's fight was right on the button.  Another hour that just flew by which is the mark of a good episode.

You know when I first heard about this prequel I kind of assumed it would be at a level less than the Spartacus legend stuff.  But it isn't.  The actors are all just so darn good and hold your focus and you just get into the story right away.   Too bad this is only a semi-season with what, eight episodes was it.  I could have used more episodes.

  13. Gan-ni-cus!  Gan-ni-cus!  Gan-ni-cus!

Great intro of this character.  Gladiators were the rock stars of their day -- well until they got killed anyway -- and we finally have one that lives the life at full bore.  And such a welcome relief from the far more serious and dour trio of Spartacus, Crixus and Oenomaus.  Yeah they are great but I love that Gannicus is a rocker and is having a blast.  Props to the actor playing the role to sell it too.  (Though nothing is really known about him as to his past, still Gannicus was a real historical person just like the other three and just like them the writers' created an interesting back story for him).

And our favorite conniving couple are back at it.  And with Solonius as Batiatus' bestest friend ever.  When I saw this on the download a month ago I was like what?  Kind of cool to see them together as friends.

Enter Crixus and Ashur.  I like the long hair look for Crixus.  Gives his moody personality the look to go with it.  And, just like Batiatus and Solonius, these two start out friendly.  Wonder how long that will last.

We get to meet pre-Doctore Oenomaus' wife, Melitta  (I got a cast list on another screen so I can finally get these names right barring typos).  And Naevia before Crixus knows she exists.  And Barca is happily alive again.  Old home week.

Gaia is the new Illithiya it seems.  Or is Illitiya the new Gaia.  Prequels in the middle of a series are a bit confusing.  Anyway, she is Lucretia's confident.

And there is a clever edit where Lucretia is telling Gaia that she would never ever consider messing around with a gladiator.  Immediate quick cut to Crixus being thrown into his cell upon arrival at the ludus.  Perfect.

What a dump the old Capua "arena" was.  Civic pride dictates a new stadium pronto.

I thought this first episode of Gods of the Arena was one of the better one's of the whole series.  It just flowed so well and the characters really popped off the screen.  Especially Batiatus and Gan-ni-cus!

  14. They will probably write it into their script that the bozos decide to hire Farmer Lefty to do all their chores in return for free nude yoga lessons while the producers pay the guy under the table.  Mytopia, building a better world for Fox, cows and the nude yoga business all at the same time.  At least that would be the TV telecast version of it.

  15. I'm still unsure of the time frame for this. Will we (well, somebody, somewhere, because none of us may last) be seeing it in anything like real time (e.g. "last week's events...")?

They always trail by a few days on these types of shows so the story editor has time to assemble an episode of "highlight" clips to tells some sort of story real or imagined.

The live feed thread here is where all the fun is with an absolutely brilliant member of our forums logging in the REAL happenings there with much wit, snark and humor while still showing the real deal which you don't really get just seeing the show.  In fact some people have quit watching the TV version preferring to get all their info from the live feed loggers who actually make this thing hilarious in the train wreck way that it is actually happening.

I'll probably watch on Friday at least because the two parallel universes of live feeds versus the "spin" TV show is kind of interesting to see in a schizoid way.  I assume they will bear less and less resemblance to each other as Fox desperately tries to save this mess.

    • Love 3
  16. Thanks, Zahdii.  Your re-caps are far far better than the show. Love your wit.  And it made the TV broadcast Tuesday look totally given a fantasyland "spin" after reading what was really happening.  Like parallel universes in motion.

The TV version showed the intrepid pioneers aspiring and completing many a task as they build a better society with a few "quaint" humorous moments by the silly billy and his street wise buddy as they purloin the loot from the safe.  It was scary to actually see one of Bella's "I, me, my" sessions but otherwise it was a real snooze-fest.  All while hosted by some guy who looks like my stereotype image of an online pervert.

So I much much prefer reading your insightful and funny logs here then actually watching these people appear on my TV.

PS:  Wonder if the producers are going to have to do something about the very real abuse of the cows.  The thing about live feeds is that if a cow dies or that one loses her calf there is no real way they can hide it because even if they remove the cameras from that area it will be noticed by live feed viewers that they did remove cameras from that area.  My guess is the cameras will be cut just long enough daily for some poor production intern to go running in there and feed and milk the cows and sweep the barn for these idiots.

  17. My Utopia is Thomas More sues these people from beyond the grave for defamation of the name of one of coolest books ever written.

Saw they properly re-titled the show here on the title card page to Big Brother Outdoors.  Subtitle needs to be added to read something like This Time the Loonies Get Real Weapons.

  18. Nutjob "When I saw the poster for The Cloven, my not-so-inner metalhead immediately went to a satanic goat-human hybrid monster like something off of a black metal album cover. The reindeer idea was a stretch to begin with, IMO, but that costume."

Yes, YES I was yelling at the screen. "A deer?! Deer are cute! They are not scary! Do the demon thing with the scary goat eyes. "http://animalphotos.info/a/topics/animals/mammals/goats/

Remember that silly leprechaun that came on stage and danced around the micro-mini styrofoam "Stonehenge" in the film This Is Spinal Tap?

Now imagine Spinal Tap doing an oh-so-heavy satanic song about the "dark, evil cloven one" and Rudolph here suddenly appears on stage behind them at the climatic moment.

    • Love 5
  19. They should have sent reindeer girl home. "Cloven" -- especially in this setting -- is a reference to Satan's traditional cloven hooves, not Rudolph's.

Then there was the mess she made of her execution.  Looked like Rudolph went out with some elf one night on a bender during which they decided to trade clothing and/or fur and it all ended with him having a massive hangover.  Would have been fine if it was a send-up of the genre I guess but it wasn't suppose to be that.

Winner was okay.  But horror leaves me totally bored.

  20. I have no idea who Mary Sue is but I always liked Wesley Crusher.  Not everyone thinks the same and I like as near perfect a character as you can make them.  It's the hardest to act and the best to see when well done.  On the other hand, I'm bored to tears by endless average gray area characters.  They just coast through life.  And forget the fad lately for bad boy leads.  Can't stand them.
