Jughead would be better suited for them than Curtis. Archie Andrews deserves much better than Jordan or Portia.

I really dont think thats fair because AMC and OLTL also on ABC had multitudes of interracial relationships.  (and their prime time shows also have a lot of interactional relationships)

True, but I also remember Peter Bergman saying how Cliff/Angie on AMC got push back as far back as 1989, and I think it was one reason the show brought Nina back for a final time and remarried her and Cliff before Bergman was let go (worked out for him as he got Y&R not long after!).

The point being, ABC is fine with interracial love stories if they can half-ass them, but it seems for every such story on GH, TPTB did get gun shy, as my list above can attest.

The fact that I read Spencer/Avery got zero interruption for their scenes, when Spencer/Trina can barely date, well... So, for me, my opinion stands. Mileage may vary.

It amazes me that with everything going on in the world, fan-bases are still getting upset over inter-racial relationships. In 2023. Incredible. Sprina has barely kissed throughout their entire relationship. Man.

I understand the tribalism thing. As a person of color (whose Mother resembled the Trina actress at a comparable age), I take heat from female relatives for being open to inter-racial relationships in my own life. We're literally a month away from having flying cars and this nonsense is still going on. Sad.

well Carly considering that you threw away everything that you had.... that statement doesn't have the same impact as you think it did.

It bothers me SO much that she's using the Spencer surname

Ok, then why isn't he more concerned.  anytime that I've had amnesia (!!!) I would freak out when I didn't recognize the people that say they are my family or worry about the things that I don't remember.  Ned hasn't hit that beat at all.  It's all been about the name, insisting that he's Eddie and that he's a musician.

And if his memories go back 30 years ago, why isn't he asking for the members of his band?

No apology needed, heh.  GH would be SO much better if the folks on this Board were writing it.

There was a “In Loving Memory” picture of Jackie Zeman at the end of today’s episode

Still sad and missing JZ already. A trouper, seems like she worked right up until the end.

This might have been mentioned over on Small Talk, but YT has a soap parody called "This Show Sucks." A lot of past and current GH actors over there, including Kin Shriner, Wally Kurth, Tony Geary, Ian Buchanan, Alicia Leigh Willis, Sonya Eddy and Jackie Zeman.  JZ appears around 4:45 of this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPWwR6pXi_g

Look at the pictures on her office wall, which include Kin, TG, and Vernee Watson. Guess those were some of her favorite co-stars.

It's not like Eden has a lot of dialogue to remember is it?  Does she even need a script? Just show up, hit your mark, and say pretty much the same thing you said yesterday. Nice work if you can get it.

  8. With the Writers' Strike looming, GH has suddenly become marginally interesting,  except for one thing. ZEKE REALLY, REALLY BUGS ME. Not sure why exactly, maybe he reminds me of someone I went to College with and didn't like.

I know he's meant to be eye candy for the ladies, but if my daughter brought this smarmy, smirky, not-nearly-as handsome-as he-thnks-he is poser home, she'd get a single response from me, "you're not serious, are you? Stay off Tinder."

ETA - If they wanted a romantic partner for Jordan, Dr. Maddox would have been so much better, plus FWIW, he's cooler and more handsome than Zeke, but guess I'm probably not qualified to say, LOL.

Now I really want a pastrami sandwich.  I can't get a good juicy one unless I journey to the Lower East Side (e.g., Katz's, famous for scene with Meg Ryan's big O).

I'm in the NYC area and Katz's has been on my mind for awhile now. While their pastrami is excellent, I'm a juicy Brisket of Beef man, heavy on the Mustard (and extra pickles, of course).

Now with the nice weather it might be time to finally tap out of GH or ease out until the strike ends up pulling the final plug. Certainly no offense to anyone here, this forum has kept me watching GH longer then they really deserve.

Good luck to all of you with your perseverance, I may check in once and awhile, I don't know.

Thanks for that, sincerely. I too took a little GH hiatus after the embarrassingly anti-climatic Greenland saga and caught up on work.

While I empathize with the writers strike, maybe the GH writers can take some time to look at the show's most recent golden era (circa 1978-1985) and see what good soap writing actually looks like.

The repetitiveness and redundancy of this show is really what's killing it. Tune in any given day and we all know what to expect. Almost everyone dumps on Nina, the Town punching bag. Chase and Brooke Lynn have conversation #567 about their relationship. Carly goes on another pious, hypocritical rant with absolutely no self-awareness whatsoever (until recently). Lather, rinse, repeat.

I keep watching GH as a tribute to my mother, it used to be her favorite soap. It used to be so COOL - you never knew what to expect next. Alan trying to crash a roof on Monica and Rick. Luke vs. Frank Smith. On and on.

The action/adventure S/Ls kept this young man (who was just getting hooked on Bond movies) coming back. My mind always goes back to the Aztec Princess S/L - Sean and Felicia (I think), chasing his exotic, mysterious girlfriend (Cruz) across the desert in a Jeep. As a guy, there was no shame whatsoever in watching the "stories" - Luke, Laura, Robert, Sean, Tiffany, Frisco, Anna - they were just so freaking cool, all of them. Even the secondary and tertiary characters, Lee, Gail, Bryan, Claudia and even Amy 1.0 - held your interest.

There's nothing even close to that going on now. These show runners seem to be writing for their own amusement instead of our entertainment. And that sucks.

You know, Diane, you want those big checks to keep coming from Sonny, maybe don't get snarky with his fiancée.

As always, shut up, Olivia. Ugh, she's awful, awful, awful. At this point she could keep her opinions to herself. I wonder if Drew will enlist her help in trying to get something on Tracy. I wouldn't put it past either of them to work together.

There was a lot of mean-spiritedness in today's episode. My heart went out to Nina after Diane's acerbic rebuff. Nina's contrite response of "Well, I've always had trouble making friends," indicated someone who's lonely, filled with self-doubt and getting very used to constant rejection - and Diane punched right her in the gut. Reprehensible.

I too now want Diane as far away from Robert F! Scorpio as possible - she doesn't deserve him.

The Tracy-centric scenes in Casa Q weren't much better. The Qs know Tracey lost the love of her life a year ago, and they want her to go back where he died?  Damn, the writers were taking some Mean pills for this episode.

Willow is a cow and just dismisses her (and i'm not even giving her "she's dying/she gets what she wants points) - Willow abuses her relationship to get Nina to bend to her will then spits in her face about it, knowing that NIna will do anything to be able to see her grandchildren etc.

This. To the one-zillionth power. Re: Willow - ultimately you would think someone at death's doorstep would have more Grace, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

It was the Willow, Willow, Willow stuff that bothered me today. Having Nina talk about the wonderful relationship she'll have with Willow as soon as Carly goes to prison moves her into the obsessive/deranged category. They should have had Ava, who is usually the voice of reason with her, make some comment about it being possible that Willow still might not want Nina in her life.

There's always been a certain amount of mental instability about Nina as far as I'm concerned. If Ava were a candid friend (and the two of them looked like sisters today), two questions should have been asked: 1) what's so wonderful about that hateful shrew Willow that you want to risk everything and 2) how low is your self-esteem that you want a connection with someone that has nothing but contempt and an almost pathological hatred of you? Blood ain't that thick.

I'm probably in the minority, but I didn't like the Ice Princess redux at all. It took since CH was hired and Victor talking about his big big BIG plans to get to this point and it was just so anti-climactic overall.

Valentin will live, Willow will live and we will continue to live in the world of no consequences unless it's a character the writers have targeted to be crapped on.

This thing has been all over the place. When the writers decide to pivot back to a weather machine theme, Laura defuses it in 5 minutes using 40-year-old memories. It's well past time to retire the Cassidines as major baddies. Helena, Stefan, and Stavros are all dead, Luke too, supposedly (but I'm still holding out hope). Those characters, along with Laura, drove the decades-long conflict. Robert's been rendered impotent (professionally) as far as WSB matters are concerned, so who's left, really?

Seriously. He was like a babbling three-year-old going on and on while Badass Laura's trying to save the world. It's truly awesome that she could remember from 40-odd years ago an almost certainly complex chemical formula. She's GH's Wonder Woman, no doubt about it.

On the other side of the spectrum we have Anna, who clearly has taken permanent leave of her senses. You've got a daughter, and two grand-kids, why expose yourself to a deadly pathogen???? Time to retire from spy work and open up a quaint little tea-and-crumpet shop.

Wish I could have written the Holly-Liesel-Victor dialogue. Liesel: "Why didn't you just poison him to death?"  Holly: "I actually thought about that, but then decided having to live without 'Mr. Happy' would be a fate worse than death."

They used scab writers during the last strike so I wouldn’t be surprised if they go that route again. The writers also likely had scripts ready for at least another month so they can still film the completed scripts. It’s just no rewrites or edits can be made on those but I don’t think soaps do that very often once they start filming.

You're probably right. Although I might have expressed myself poorly in a previous post, I am a strong union guy and stand behind the writers. The entertainment industry generates far too much income for the behind-the-scenes talent to not receive just recompense and benefits. I too can deal with "Classic GH" episodes for as long as it takes, or maybe watch old episodes of "That Girl" on Antenna TV during that time slot.  It's all good.

  20. Now that I've had a full day to process the finale, it really was moving, even with some of AMLT's typical "wtf" moments. Even with all the snark we've been doing for the last five years, I really AM going to miss the co-dependent weirdos. And...the finale clearly evoked some strong sentiments and thoughts here on the boards...

Never saw the assisted suicide thing coming. But when you think about it, the move was totally consistent with Gary's character. Being the rugged individualist, he wanted to go out on his own terms. Excellent writing choice. Btw, I had no idea that JRR was also a scriptwriter. My respect for him grows by leaps and bounds, even though I had no use for his Psych character.

    2 hours ago, historylover820 said:

I may be mistaken, and that's extremely possible, but my mind decided that the dinner scene was actually taking place after Gary died. I know usually when scenes are cross-cut like that, they're supposed to be happening simultaneously, but I was reading that the dinner scene was sometime after, like days or weeks, after Gary's death. Maybe even after Gary's funeral.

But, Gary would have liked the gang to tell funny stories about him while he died. But, in my head, it wasn't happening at the same time. After all, this episode was full of time skips, so I'm happy to believe that this was also a time skip.

That was my take too. It was really like a wake, where friends and loved ones get together before or after a funeral and share memories and funny stories about the departed. Time jumps aside, it was actually one of the show's better moments.

IMO, the last two episodes were exactly what this show should have been, but it lost its way early on and never recovered. Maybe the problem was trying to be "This Is Us," Nash might have been better served by making his own road.

The Finale brought us, and the Show, full circle. It began with one of the core male friends making the decision to end his own life and it ended the same way. Now only Eddie and Rome remain from the original buddies, but given the finale, it looks like they're going to be alright, which is what we want.

So long to the psycho, co-dependent weirdos.  I'm actually going to miss them.  And you guys here on the Boards too!
