  1. Three hours for the main bake and NO TWIST! I did not miss it in the least. Do they always just leave them alone for week one?
  2. There are a couple degrees of difficulty between "meatloaf and mashed potatoes" and spaghetti, meatballs (and sauce) and green salad" as assigned meals. I'm not surprised Anaiah was overwhelmed--I would have been too! How sweet to see the other kids helping her out. When the season started, I had a negative opinion of Oscar. I think he reminded me of a former unpleasant student. But he has completely won me over and I'm rooting for him to take the title. Actually all the kids are likeable and talented; I'll be okay with any of them winning.
  3. (Mods and readers: apologies if this post doesn't belong here. 🥴) I stream this show on Max. I've deduced that there have been a couple of extra hours revisiting past contestants. These hours are neither on Max or On Demand (that I can find). Any suggestions for where to find them?
  4. Agree. I kept telling myself it was just because I'm used to the more accomplished skills and creativity of the adults on Holiday Baking, etc. But then I recalled past kid seasons and there were always kids who knocked my socks off with their talent. Still fun to watch though.
  5. Maybe I'm not paying close attention, but the season seems like one big bunch of "take this specific main flavor and this bizarre other flavor and make a dessert with some other random-ass tacked on requirement without making it suck too badly." Yes, I know that really just sums up the majority of the FN baking championship genre--and maybe I've reached my saturation point--but when a contestant has to bake something with . . . say . . . matcha and coffee (last week), it's just screwy. And, I never, ever thought I would agree with one of Nancy's favorite critiques, but a lot of the desserts don't look very summery! (There. I said it. Please don't hate me. 😇)
  6. I hadn't seen enough of Kyle to develop a like or dislike of him, but WOW . . . his was one spectacular fail. That ring of pastry barely fit in the pot of oil. I was wondering how the hell he was going to flip it, but never mind--he wasn't even going to try! And when he repeated the same disastrous effort thinking the result was somehow going to be different? I give him credit for standing there during judging, thinking about how he'd tell his friends and family about his elimination. Oy. And props to the judges for allowing him to fail with respect.
  7. I was so looking forward to the finale and was seriously let down. Clement and Christian spent the past 8 weeks creating beautiful and innovative desserts that had the judges (mostly) singing praises. The final should have been their time to let loose with the best of their best and they both booted the opportunity. Luke baked a satisfactory cake and was a likeable guy--I don't begrudge him the win. I liked the season overall, didn't adore the love theme but really enjoyed most of the bakers. Underwhelmed by the finale.
  8. Agree. Kardea has placed Jessica in a "Vermont" box (whatever that is 🙄) and blames all her missteps on the fact that she's from a rural, northern state. Nice stereotyping Ms. Brown. Grrrr . . . I used to be neutral on Kardea as a judge--not so much anymore. My opinion of her is falling fast.
  9. Just a few thoughts-- * I didn't get to know the contestants well enough to develop any significant likes or dislikes, though I reserve the right to turn into a serious fangirl/hater as the weeks progress. * I thought Keem performed like he didn't really care all that much. I mean, just loading up those berries in a ridiculous pile? Even I, with my very basic baking skills, could see that was a bad idea. * Is it just me or is Jesse looking especially fricking FINE? Maybe it's because last year's host was so . . . disastrous, but OMG, Mr. Palmer is a sight for my sore eyes. I am in for this season to get a weekly dose of 2023 Jesse.
  10. I really enjoyed this year's competition, and would have been happy with any of the final three taking the prize. Not an unlikeable person to be found all season--on either side of the judging table.
  11. Or as a filling. I think Duff was trying to explain why bacon in the dough is not the same thing as a filling (like a blob of jam or whatever).
  12. Of course, to really level the playing field, the bakes should be blind judged. I don't really want that--I'd miss the interplay between the bakers and judges-- but often wonder how different results would be. Sitting at home, it sometimes appears that a contestant is either marked as an "also ran" or pushed way further in the competition than they should be based on how a judge likes him/her.
