  1. Brittany Spears announced that she has miscarried. https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/celebrity/britney-spears-says-she-suffered-a-miscarriage/ar-AAXhn8G?ocid=uxbndlbing
  2. There are various kinds of seizures, you're correct. It depends on where in the brain they start and how extensive they are. Most EMT's have witnessed seizures of all kinds, and, if he said that it wasn't a seizure, there could well have been other reasons besides Carlin's level of consciousness that lead him to that conclusion. Since Carlin was supposedly lying on the floor shaking for at least half an hour, one would expect that this would've been a pretty significant neurologic event; hence, my statement that it would be unusual if she didn't urinate and wasn't post-ictal afterwards. Most seizures last seconds at most, very few last 30 minutes.
  3. Sure. Poor nutrition, prolonged fasting leading to hypoglycemia and dehydration can cause and exacerbate symptoms.
  4. Such a talented guy, he deserved to be a bigger star than he was. Dam**d cigarettes, though!
  5. I am always astounded about the number of patients who misunderstand what I've told them about their condition and the plan to evaluate and/or treat it. I talk a lot, I am big on giving out written handouts explaining the typical issues I treat including what causes it, what tests are needed to confirm it, what the options for treatment are and the potential side effects and risks. And, yet, at least weekly, I will hear from a patient who I thought understood things well and their version of what I said is unrecognizable to me. Carlin and Evan are not alone in redefining the doctor's advice, it happens all the time. Remember, too, they are reliant on social media for a significant portion of their income. Stuff like this: medical emergencies, mystery illnesses, possible seizures are going to generate a bunch more clicks that videos of their toddler beating up her baby brother. If they came out and said, 'Carlin fainted but all the testing was negative and the doctor thinks her blood work was a lab error. They told her she needs to get more rest and eat a better diet and drink more fluids,' it is not going to be the moneymaker that all the other stuff is.
  6. This is probably going to sound harsh, and, remember, I am not Carlin's doctor, have never examined her and only know what I've seen on TV and on the internet. However, my experience has been that with anxious, needy patients who tend towards having physical manifestations of their symptoms; it is best to encourage them to carry on and live their life. I would've encouraged her to go as long as she and Evan felt comfortable doing so. She was far less likely to have symptoms if she was out doing something fun. Traveling and being distracted by a family gathering and wedding is going to prevent further 'episodes', IMO. You'll notice there hasn't been a word about Carlin's fragile condition since she got to California.
  7. People who have vasovagal reactions will shake/twitch, their eyes can roll back, they can groan or mutter incoherently. It would like like a seizure to the average passerby. If she had a real neurologically based seizure, she would probably have peed her pants and she would've been in a post-ictal state for half an hour or more afterwards. People who are post-ictal are confused, often a little combative, cannot answer questions coherently, and are 'awake' but not really. I'd be willing to bet that none of that happened to Carlin. I presume that Carlin's 'episode' during birth was witnessed by medical professionals. If there was any concern that she had a seizure; a CT scan, EEG and spinal tap would've been done immediately. She would've also had an EKG and maybe a cardiac echo and Holter monitor if there were concerns about her heart. The fact that she went home in the usual amount of time after the birth indicates to me that it wasn't a seizure at all. I am not a shrink, but Carlin has the sort of high strung, attention seeking personality that is more likely to experience this sort of stuff. '
  8. There is no way her hemoglobin dropped from 12 to 9.5 overnight without evidence of significant hemorrhage. Most likely, the EMT's started an IV and pumped her full of fluids and someone at the hospital mistakenly drew blood from the vein where the IV was placed and it was diluted by the fluid. Or the whole thing is BS. Could be either one. In order for the hemoglobin to drop by 1 gram, about one unit of blood would need to be lost. There are roughly 500 cc in a unit of blood; so, Carlin lost the equivalent of almost a 2 liter bottle of blood overnight and no one noticed? The hospital didn't insist on admitting her and looking for hidden bleeding from her GI tract? No, just no. The medical pros realized that the second value was inaccurate probably because it was drawn from the IV and sent her home. As for twitching and shaking, that happens a lot when people faint. Carlin could've hyperventilated and caused herself to become lightheaded and fall to the floor where she would shake for a while. Even anxiety can cause what is known as a vasovagal reaction which is probably what happened here. There is no way her hemoglobin dropped that much over just a day without evidence of very significant bleeding. I really doubt it is neurological, I think that it is much more likely due to anxiety and emotions with a heaping helping of not enough sleep and a crummy diet.
  9. My sister is an attorney, when she passed the Ohio Bar, there was a swearing in with the Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court. Several hundred people were being sworn and they were allowed to have guests present. They each got to pose with the Justice and their certificate as he gave it to them, So, even with a lot of new lawyers, some states make a production of it.
  10. Phillip will be attending Bible College in Massillon which is around 25 miles from the barndo in Wooster. Even in good weather, it would be impractical to bike to school. Many of the roads are blacktop with drainage ditches on both sides, running through farmland. If he gets a flat or other breakdown, he might easily have to hoof it several miles to civilization. No bike riding on the freeway, either, so his trip will probably be much longer than 25 miles each way. I make quilts and a cursory knowledge of geometry is helpful when figuring out the designs.
  11. My problem isn't that Kate went out and got her degrees; it's that the Kate we saw through the years was not a person who would've ever been able to do this. She diddled around in college for 10 years and didn't graduate. Apparently, she underwent a huge transformation in her ambitions and work ethic which resulted in this turnaround. Unfortunately, we got multiple episodes of her first marriage falling apart and then her second wedding instead of the much more interesting story of her evolution and passion for educating special needs kids. However, for her to have gotten her Master's just a couple of years earlier and to have been an actual teacher (not an aide) in a classroom for less than a decade; it is unrealistic for the show to try to tell us that she has now risen to an elite position in her profession and is developing curriculum. Unless Kevin or Randall set her up with the gig. As far as Randall getting to the Senate during the timeline of the show, it has happened a few times in real life. Not often, but it has happened. There are several people serving in the US Senate today who had never held elected office prior to that.
  12. It mainly doesn't make sense because much of the plotting these past couple seasons is ridiculous. Wendy is a little kooky, but it is hard to believe that she would think that Camila wasn't a big threat to them and that she would just roll over for the FBI and agree to the plan set in motion with Omar. Major plot hole, of which there are way too many in this final season.
  13. Been there multiple times and love it. Elliot Ness? John D Rockefeller? James A Garfield? Quite the history and some beautiful stones and mausoleums to boot. The Tiffany windows in Garfield's mausoleum are exquisite. Daffodil hill is not to be missed in spring. What I've never done is take selfies there, and, were I to be riding a bike, I would never prop it against a headstone. The Rods are such ignorant a**es who have repeatedly shown disrespect to places that are important to others. They suck. As for their 'old fashioned' values, it seems respect for history and the property of others isn't among them.
  14. Like others have said, it is probably just a fairy tale for the show. However, in many parts of the world, 2 and 3 year leases are the norm; so; they've got to be fairly certain they're going to be there longer than a year, even if they rent. If they've got the money to cover the purchase, buying may make more sense in some countries, anyway.
  15. I believe, at one point, Marty told Camila about the plan to return Omar to Mexico where an escape would be engineered for him so that he could return to power in the cartel and that is what set the initial hit in motion. Camila's beloved son, Javi, was running things and, if Uncle Omar got out of jail, Javi would have to take a step back. Camila was fine with Omar remaining in prison in the US since he couldn't run the cartel from there, it was the news that there were plans in motion to put Omar back in charge in Mexico that got her to order the first hit in the prison on her brother. Later, realizing that Ruth's killing of Javi was ruining their plans; Wendy came up with the notion that, if Omar stayed in the US (or, better yet, was killed) there would be a power vacuum in the cartel and Camila could step up and the Byrd's could use her to get free. That's when Camila was told that Omar ordered the hit on Javi. She then went on a quest to find out who did the actual killing because, obviously, Omar was in prison when it happened. So, she kept up the ruse that she was fine with Omar going back to Mexico and used it as an opportunity to have him killed and then not so subtley threatened Clare to find out who did the actual shooting.
  16. I've got the same harness that fits onto the seat belt and it works great. Keeps the dog within a reasonable radius while still allowing him to shift position, to stand, sit or lie down. I worry that, if there is an accident, the dog becomes a projectile and will likely be seriously injured or killed, especially my little guy who only weight 30 lbs or so.
  17. I know a little bit about childbirth, having delivered maybe 6000 kids in my day. No, treating diarrhea with an over the counter medication does not stop labor. However, when a pregnant woman is sick, particularly when she has a GI issue, she will often have a lot of Braxton-Hicks or false labor type contractions. These can be painful, especially in the setting of a GI problem like diarrhea. Giving her something to slow down the diarrhea would also help calm down the uterus and slow down the Braxton-Hicks contractions. However, this would only work if she was having false labor and her cervix wasn't changing which was probably ruled out during her hospital visit where they apparently installed thick glass walls around her bed just for her because, in 40+ years, I've never seen them anywhere else,
  18. If she had to answer, all she needed to say was, 'We were really sad that we just weren't able to make the trip but, we've spoken to Lawson and Tiffany and given them all of our love and good wishes. We look forward to getting together with them very soon to hear all the wonderful details and see the pictures;' The end, It doesn't matter if any of it is true, she is under no obligation to defend her actions to strangers. And especially not to strangers who are seemingly fishing for private details. It ain't that hard, For people who've been in the public eye for years, they are completely clueless when it comes to online interaction
  19. Blood thinners do not cause anemia as a side effect. Really, they don't. I'm a board certified OB/GYN with 40 years' experience in prescribing them. Some, like heparin, can cause low platelet counts, AKA thrombocytopenia, but that is not anemia. I expect her hemoglobin was 12 before delivery which is a respectable, non-anemic level, for a pregnant woman. She was using blood thinners for almost 9 months at that point and hadn't become anemic; so clearly her anemia wasn't due to that. Her hemoglobin probably dropped to 8 after delivery due to the blood loss from giving birth. That big a drop indicates she probably lost more than average from the birth, but was not dangerously low. Iron supplements would've been prescribed for a month or so postpartum. A woman who had experienced a drop like that would potentially have some fatigue, dizziness on standing quickly, etc, at least initially, but the health human body adapts to anemia, and, presuming she was taking the prescribed iron, she should've been virtually asymptomatic in 2 weeks tops. The fact that her hemoglobin was still low at 9 6 weeks after giving birth indicates that she has an inadequate iron intake, both medication and dietary. However, the whole 'episode' where she got the vapors and fainted and needed an ambulance would be not likely to occur at that blood level (or at 8 gms) and indicates what we already know; Carlin is a drama queen extraordinaire who craves attention and sympathy and it is most likely she was suffering from acute attention-deficiency and not anemia when she had her 'episode'. She's been moderately anemic for a couple of months now, she would've adapted to it weeks ago and, except perhaps for some shortness of breath with moderate exertion and perhaps being more tired at the end of the day; she wouldn't have had the symptoms she claims just from anemia 6 weeks after giving birth.
  20. I'm hoping that perhaps they offer classes in the English language, BME seems to have skipped those. To quote dear Phillip: So there. Can't wait to hear that he's become fluent in Hungarian as it is clear English is not his language.
  21. I think Michelle wrote it, but probably some underling at the law firm was given the task of cleaning it up a little. The words are Michelle's though as are the exclamation points and hearts. Having attended a regular high school with regular English classes, her grammar is not as appalling as that of many of her children.
  22. Blood thinners do not cause anemia unless there is active bleeding. If her bleeding after delivery was so severe that she was unable to bring her hemoglobin up over 9 in 6 weeks, that is not normal, blood thinners or not. Most people on blood thinners have normal blood counts.
  23. Have they never flown on an airplane or stayed in a building with air conditioning? I'll bet even people who live in San Diego put sweaters on their kids fairly often. Also, have they never been on a boat on the water? I live near one of the Great Lakes and I can attest that it is quite breezy and a lot cooler on the deck of a boat than on land. These two are fools. How do you travel with a newborn and NOT have layers to keep him warm? Did she not bring a swaddle or blanket for him? Couldn't he be wrapped in that if it's cool? Doesn't one of her umpteen sisters with umpteen kids have a sweater she could borrow for Layla just in case? Running out and buying new stuff because you were too dumb to pack properly is a waste of money. As far as her anemia, has she said what has caused it? If it is from the birth, that was 6 weeks ago. If her hemoglobin is only 9 due to blood loss/iron deficiency 6 weeks later, then 1. dumba** didn't take her iron pills as prescribed and/ or 2. Her diet is really terrible and she doesn't eat enough nutritious foods containing iron. In general, if someone is anemic but no longer actively bleeding, they should be able to make a gram of hemoglobin a week on iron replacement. If Carlin's hemoglobin is 9 now, it would have had to have been 3 when she delivered. That is transfusion territory (around 6 in an otherwise healthy new mom is ok). So, she either has some other issue causing her to be anemic or she isn't following instructions.
  24. Nowadays, a lot of people invite any out of town guests who might be coming to the wedding to go to the rehearsal dinner, too. I've been invited to a couple when I've gone to weddings in other states.
  25. No surprise that Maddox’ father was Rome’s bully; the coincidences on this show are astounding. While I get that Rome was being supportive of Maddox, I thought he was a condescending jerk to the parents. His entire attitude was dismissive and lacked empathy, He seemed to think that because he’d watched a 5 minute video of the kid discussing their sexuality, he knew them better than their parents and was qualified to lecture them. Nothing Rome said to them was helpful, IMO. He just told them they were wrong about their child. A little acknowledgment of their feelings and attempt to understand their concerns could’ve gone a long way towards helping them accept this aspect of their child. Offering them resources for information and support for parents of transgender teens would’ve also been appropriate. Even though I agree with Rome that Maddox is most likely trans and it isn’t just a phase; if I’d been the parent who was treated so dismissively by a teacher, I’d have probably gone to the principal to complain about it, too,
