  1. Just curious as to why you would think that they wouldn't have. If anything "kids today" are in worse shape physically now than they've ever been (or else popular culture is lying to me).
  2. This may be true for some families. It's not true for many - least of all in a small town where many people are uber religious and even less so in Texas in 1990.
  3. One thing I've noticed, especiall on sitcoms, is how often someone will say "I apologize" for some misdeed and the wronged person accepts the apology and it's over. I don't know about anyone else here but just hearing an "I'm sorry" doesn't automatically erase the misdeed for me.
  4. Did he have a toothache? All I remember is the Bumble has all his teeth removed because he's going to eat everyone. The one I know who has the toothache is the head elf at the very end of the show and the dentist elf makes an appointment for him for after the holidays. Chiming in to agree that as an adult I find Rudolph very hard to watch. Not least because of the way they de-teeth the Bumble. That seems pretty cruel - I mean I do get that the Bumble is presented as being threatening and they had to do something but jeeze, taking out all his teeth? That's cold, man!
  5. Thanks for posting this! I hadn't heard of this movie and I'm not sure I would have watched it if I'd scrolled by it but I PVRed it based on your comments and I really enjoyed it! One question I do have if anyone knows - was that the actual singing voice of the daughter? Whoever the singer I was very impressed.
  6. Saw Christmas Waltz and USS Christmas yesterday. I liked them both, didn't love them, probably wouldn't watch again but I found them a pleasant enough way to pass an afternoon. Highlight for me definitely was Will Kemp dancing. And I thought Lacey held her own. I appreciated that she was good enough but they didn't suddenly have her turn into Ginger Rogers.
  7. Oh that's funny, I guess she's changed horses somewhere along the line. I've only seen 3 or 4 of her movies but that doesn't sound like her kind of character at all. I think she's going for sweet and kindly now.
  8. I kind of liked that they had this twist. It was a little original at least and didn't have the usual backstabbing colleague type thing going on. I could understand how she felt as well, first day on the new job and she gets to stay on while long term employees are given the boot - not a position I'd want to be in either!
  9. For me the true can't miss holiday movies are pretty vintage. Holiday Inn, Christmas in Connecticut, The Bishop's Wife and the Alistair Sim version of A Christmas Carol.
  10. If she does so does half the country and a good chunk of the world. The last few weeks have been incredibly stressful for a lot of people. I think Sunny is just expressing what many are thinking. That doesn't, of course, mean she's accurately predicting an end game here but it's her "view" and it's one shared by a fair number of others.
  11. I love that movie! I haven't seen it listed anywhere that I get yet. I agree with you and others that they aren't airing the older movies much anymore. I'd love to see Mrs Miracle again but haven't noticed it come on in a few years. I've noticed they air Call Me Mrs Miracle, which I enjoy, and Mr Miracle, which I most emphatically did not! Why no Mrs Miracle? Enquiring minds want to know!
  12. I've only seen this once or twice and really enjoyed it. It never seems to air on any of the channels I get and you can't seem to buy it on DVD.
  13. To give myself a Friday treat after the end of a very stressful week I watched Window Wonderland and Nine Lives of Christmas. After reading through this thread and the other holiday themed thread I've realized what I love about these movies is that the acting is very good, the scripts are well written and as believable as it gets for the genre, the chemisty between the two leads is great and the supporting cast are stellar. But what I absolutely like best is no cookie baking, no snowball fight, no "oh nos the Christmas festival will have to be cancelled" and no hot cocoa!
  14. I'm sure this has been said before but I have to ask "how is it that the people on these holiday movies almost always live on millionaire row"??? I just watched Never Kiss A Man in a Christmas Sweater which was cute but forgettable and if they ever explained how a 2nd grade teacher could afford that lovely home complete with piano and guest house then I missed it.
  15. Am in the middle of One Royal Holiday right now and have to post to say how much I'm enjoying it. For one thing some people actually have asked for cocoa and not specified hot cocoa. That alone was worth the price of admission 😀. Another thing I like is how the misunderstandings are resolved almost immediately (for example Anna thinking her mother didn't like formal dances) - quite the change from the usual formula of constant confusion until the last 5 minutes!
  16. I missed the part with Bill Maher - if you don't mind updating, what happened?
  17. I forgot about that one. And it's one I really like as well. Where time travel is concerned though it's so full of inconsistencies that I'm not sure I really count it. Not that there is a rule book for this genre I guess but there should be some logic to it. Sort of 😀
  18. Hallmark aside I don't think there are many time travel romances around where the person who comes into the future goes back into the past (one huge Outlander exception being the exception). Channelling Star Trek here but that would totally mess with the timeline.
  19. Finally a week where I've actually heard of almost all the guests. I was beginning to think that was never going to happen.
  20. I know I read that some Republicans said they would give him the briefings as of today but I haven't read yet that this has actually gone ahead and happened.
  21. I wonder who the other one is? I too have never seen that movie - but boy do I know the quotes!
  22. In the Young Sheldon thread I commented about graduations from elementary school by saying: We didn't have them back when the dinosaurs roamed when I graduated but fast forwarding to when my kids finished grade school there was no formal grad ceremony. That waited for high school. I guess the answer is "it depends on the school" but on TV there is always a big deal made. Not exactly a faux thng really of course but something that always happens on TV. Big grad ceremonies that mimic a high school graduation right down to the prom.
  23. This reminded me of something I wondered about - when did elementary schools start holding graduations? We didn't have them back when the dinosaurs roamed when I graduated but fast forwarding to when my kids finished grade school there was no formal grad ceremony. That waited for high school. I guess the answer is "it depends on the school" but on TV there is always a big deal made.
  24. Just had this conversation with someone who was banging on about how it's "the kids" who aren't taking this seriously. Well I won't argue that some aren't but like you the ones I see wearing their masks on their chin or giving clerks in stores a hard time are not people I'd describe as young.
