They are really pushing the political piece for these potential co-hosts and personally I'm not sure that's the correct way to go.  But that's just me.

It bothers me too.  It has escaped no one's notice that the guest co-hosts so far have been conservative (ex) politicians.  Give us a break ABC, could we possibly, going forward NOT have politics take centre stage?  Please???

Just "my truth" bugs the crap out of me.

Same and maybe I'd feel differently if the people I know personally who use it were only referencing their own memories of a past incident but that's not what they're doing.  "I don't care what the experts think about X, this is my truth".  Ugh.

  3. Two peeves today (so far) :

People who pass along conspiracy theories or other idiocies and insist they are just "speaking my truth".  I'm not sure where this expression came from but I am pretty sure it was not meant to be invoked by those who are passing off ill informed opinions as fact.

Mainly advertisers who are using words as verbs, that aren't verbs, most recently "That's why I Walmart" and "Your friends will want to chef in this kitchen".

  4. @Jane Tuesday and @shapeshifter excellent suggestion but sadly I checked and turns out he just decided he had had enough and needed to "speak my truth".  Ugh.  He also posted pictures of Anne Frank and concentration camp survivors and said this was exactly the same thing as having to have proof of vaccination.  I'm done with him.  Unfriended and thank god he lives in BC and I'm in Ontario.  I honestly don't know how people are coping who have closer relatives (geographically and family wise) who have such extreme views.

  5. My British Columbia based cousin posts very little on FB, until today.  Now I find that he is completely unhinged with regard to the upcoming election and Covid protocols.  I have no idea why he stayed quiet this long and decided to vent with constant posts (at least 30 in the space of an hour) but for now I have him on ignore and if this continues the next step is unfriending (the true Facebookian insult).  If he lived closer I might look into an intervention as clearly something has happened - or maybe he was always like this but kept it offline - I don't know.

But does it make any sense to believe a document filled out 30 years later over the actual person who should know if she was 13 or nearly 16 when she got married.

Agreed! I didn't see my birth certificate until I applied for a passport at 16 but I knew how old I was before then!  The idea that because Loretta Lynn may have come from an impoverished background means she wasn't aware of her actual age is pretty insulting!

My lack of self control. I ate an entire box of Mac & Cheese for lunch. It was delicious but I over-ate and need a nap.

Someone on my FB posted a meme about that it goes something like "according to my profile I'm a single person but according to the box of Kraft Dinner I just ate I'm a family of 4".

Today's peeve: psychics.  Especially the one I saw (briefly I must add) when I was clicking the channels last night.  She calls herself "Long Island medium" and on last nights show she was focusing on 9/11 and bring messages from those who died to their loved ones.  I have no words for people who do this.  Well I do have words but my mother would wash my mouth out with soap if I used them!

  8. I was just thinking about what I really want in the next co-host.  I really do think they need a conservative viewpoint - but what they also need is someone who can be convincing.  I would love it if they could find someone who can be friendly and engaging and put forth that viewpoint in such a way that I come away thinking "hmm never saw it that way before, food for thought".  Somehow though I don't think that's what they're going to do.

When Elisabeth was there as the representative of conservatism she was easily refuted.

I remember them trouncing her arguments regularly.  With MM, especially this past year it was like they (the other co-hosts) gave up even trying to discuss/argue/reason with her.  This week has been such a refreshing change.  I don't mind if there are differing viewpoints - I want that - but if we end up back with a prima donna monopolizing the show my return to The View will be a short one.

But Hayley Mills is the first I've heard of whose trust fund money was there but subsequently lost to an extremely high tax rate.

I had known the UK had a horrendous tax rate back then but didn't realize how bad it was until I read a biography of Agatha Christie recently.  According to this biographer the tax situation for her was horrible and she ended up leaving a much smaller estate than you would expect from someone who was (and still is) one of the world's best selling novelists!

Will be airing former seasons on TBS starting 9/27. It will be nice to watch at a time that is not overnight/very early AM like it’s airing on Nick at Nite and Nick 2.

They just started airing the first season on our Comedy Channel.  It's on either just before or just after Big Bang Theory.  It's been interesting seeing the first season - the kids looks so young! - and as I had seen very few of those first season episodes I'm appreciating it.

  12. I just saw the episode where Penny and Leonard look after Cinnamon and the dog eats some chocolate.  The attitude of both Raj and the vet really annoy me.  Not everyone is even aware that chocolate is bad for dogs and yet Penny and Leonard are given no thanks or credit for rushing Cinnamon to a vet as soon as they realized what had happened.  Granted they left the chocolate within dog reach but even so they reacted in the best possible way but you wouldn't know that based on Raj and especially based on the vet.

  13. Today's peeve: when you spend your morning grating zuchinni and then measuring, mixing, stirring etc and then you wait around for the zuchinni bread to bake and then you finally get it out of the oven and it tastes...not good.  Last time I trust a recipe from the Internet.  I'm going back to good old Betty Crocker.

I actually have no real objection to Jerry O'Connell as a person nor do I usually care about the gender of talk show hosts, but I think it's pretty damn shitty for a show that is allegedly about women and for women to not only bring in a male host but also then pay him more than the women who have been there for years. I really don't care what their reasoning is or what Jerry himself brings to the table. It's an asshole move.

Yep.  It's hard to believe that the powers that be had no clue that there would be a response to a move like that.  Do they want the controversy?  Don't give a  damn about the optics?  In other words never really cared about their target audience in the first place.  Or are they planning to cancel the show anyway so this is just a temporary thing and best not count on that paycheque Jerry.

Well, as far back as the 1950's there WERE women in prominent hosting positions on daytime TV (the late Arlene Francis hosting a Today-type show called The Home Show and Betty White [yes, that Betty White] hosting a similar themed show called The Betty White Show). Granted, these were the sole regular women on their respective shows but they WERE the queen bees clearly running things and keeping the male drones in line!

No one is saying there have never been women on TV but the point with shows like The VIew and The Talk was that finally there were shows not only aimed at women but fronted by women - only women - as well.  It made a nice change.  It seems clear though that most of the decion makers behind these shows were still men.

If my reply is way off base, feel free to throw virtual rotten tomatoes.🍅

Not off base at all!  Very insightful.  I think I was really torn here between wanting to do my bit and feeling very nervous about it at the same time.  I don't know if my husband picked up on that (I'd love to give him credit for being that empathetic but,,,) however I think you're right, I was happy to throw him under the bus because deep down I was regretting it - and feeling guilty about regretting it!

  17. I got a call today from Election Canada offering me a job at a polling station on election day (I've done this in the past) anyway I accepted and didn't think anything more of it really until I told my husband about it.  Well he put his dainty size 13s down and insisted that I call them back and decline.  I should say right now this is not how he normally behaves.  At all!  He is very concerned on two fronts - one obviously the whole issue of Covid and social distancing and potentially being around ummasked people (people can not be compelled to wear a mask to vote according to the Elections Canada official I spoke to) and aside from the health concerns he is also worried about safety based on the threats of violence and other nonsense that is swirling around this election.  Personally I am not worried about this - the Covid, yes, he has a valid point.  But to keep family peace I've turned down the job.  I don't know whether to be happy he cares for my safety or annoyed that I've let him make a decision for me!

Oops; I now realize this is about The Talk, and I was thinking of The View.  My point may still stand, but I'll have to look into what The Talk is about.

Based on the article in wiki about The Talk you were spot on:  "Sara Gilbert approached CBS about producing a pilot that would feature six women talking about the day's headlines with opinions told through "the eyes of mothers.""

It turned out she wanted to thank me for keeping him safe. He told her the "mean lady" next door had yelled at him and she told him it served him right and to stay out of the street.

So nice to read this!  From my experience working in a public library I have to say most parents are probably like this neighbour of yours but oh god the ones who weren't!  I had people yell at staff who dared to prevent their little darling from tearing pages out of books - and I'm not talking about toddlers here!
