  1. My reading of it was that she expected Ellen to think she was joking, and we the audience were meant to suspect she probably wasn’t. I think we’re going to get a little retcon of how many “bad” things Georgia has really done if we get a season 2, though, because on paper she’s a serial killer and it’s not really cute. Like, we’ll see more extenuating circumstances, we’ll find out the wolfsbane didn’t really kill Jerry, something like that. JMO. Could be wrong. Frequently am.
  2. After rewatch, I can confirm that the last line is Ginny dramatically voiceovering: "I have to keep running". So if the show gets renewed, we either get an infuriating episode of Ginny putting herself and Austin in repeated and unnecessary danger while living "on the road" ... Or S02E01 pretends she never says that, and they're just with Zion.
  3. IIRC Ginny’s helmet was also beat up. My secondhand knowledge via spouse is that motorcycle helmets (maybe any safety helmet) = one impact and done. You don’t reuse a helmet after that.
  4. Good grief. As a species I think we just weren't ready for social media.
  5. I can watch Georgia doing the “Motherhood” poetry performance basically on loop. Abbywatch: yep, I officially want to see the version of this show that’s from her POV.
  6. Another Abby tidbit from my rewatch. In this episode she casually mentions that both her parents are therapists. Yikes. Abby could be in her own, slightly more serious show, and that actress could carry it. I did like Hunter trolling Ginny about her John Mayer obsession. The actor had a good time with it, looked like. Maxine is fun to watch but she would be the most exhausting friend ever. I actually like Maddie (Georgia’s sister). They could have gone lazy, one-dimensional intruder from the past, but she’s actually quite funny, has an interesting turn of phrase that’s like Georgia’s but not exactly, and the actress is good.
  7. Oof, just caught that Abby’s boyfriend (or some random douche) calls her “whale legs” at the Halloween party.
  8. As a lifelong American ... I have absolutely no clarity to offer. 🙂 It seems cartoony to me too. But so did the political setup in Stars Hollow / Gilmore Girls. I mentioned this in another thread, but my US based Netflix account continues to claim this is Netflix’s current #1 show, or still was as of last night. (Of course, no way of knowing how Netflix determines or claims that.) Based on that, I assume there was a huge untapped appetite for this kind of show, and I will be genuinely shocked if we don’t get renewal news soon.
  9. Rewatching: the voiceovers about scary movies finally made me realize the voiceovers are absolutely unnecessary to the show. I can’t tell if Abby is in love with Max, just jealous of new girl Ginny, or is just generally acting out about her home life stress.
  10. This is the one that works for me, and has a cool graphic showing what’s happening in your ear: There are others you can do flat on your back, with your head sort of hanging off the edge of a bed, if mobility is an issue for the half somersault.
  11. “Lip was an engineering prodigy who built battlebots.”
  12. Netflix, or at least Netflix on my US account, still claims this is its number one show, so I started watching it again. And goddammit, it’s holding up really well to rewatch and I’m enjoying it more than the first time. I also really like the actress who plays Georgia. The casting for her teen self was really good, too.
  13. Sounds like positional vertigo, especially if they’re lowering/tilting your head further back than you normally do (say while in bed). Stuff in your inner ear is getting jostled around. When it settles back down you get less dizzy. Sometimes I get a bad case and follow a YouTube video that shows you how to move your head around in a way to reposition the inner ear stuff. Let me know if you’d like a link. I am not a doctor! 🙂
  14. (I don’t think I’ll ever understand this “cancel culture” business. Isn’t it just capitalism at work? Stop being an asshole if you don’t want to become a product people no longer want to buy.)
  15. ‘Doom Patrol’: Michelle Gomez Joins Season 3 As Series Regular, Will Play Madame Rouge Doom Patrol is the best genre show you should be watching but might not be. With Lady Satan joining the cast I may weep.
  16. Future episode(s) spoiler, only on the flower subject but still:
  17. Justice League: Deborah Snyder Reported Whedon's Behavior to Warner Bros. in 2017 Here’s how out of touch I am with DC stuff: I was so bored last night I randomly watched Justice League. Like, just clicked it while scrolling through HBO Max. I’m just not a DC film person, so was not surprised at the end to feel like “well, that was pretty crappy and it felt like someone had tried to weld some awkward humor on top of it.” Then ten minutes later: “What is this Zack Snyder’s Justice League thing at the top of the HBO Max app? The next movie in the series?” and only then did I google it, and only then did I mentally link it back to the recent Whedon stuff. I knew about the allegations, but as a non-DC-film person, I mostly ended up focusing on the Charisma Carpenter/BTVS stories, which I was much more familiar with. I had no idea that in addition to everything else, there was this whole thing with Whedon just generally fucking up this particular movie. TLDR: Last night I sat through the 2017 version of Justice League without realizing what I was doing.
  18. Kate Winslet is HBO's newest brooding detective in Mare Of Easttown trailer
  19. ‘Doom Patrol’: Michelle Gomez Joins Season 3 As Series Regular, Will Play Madame Rouge I love her so much, since Green Wing days. She was one of the best parts of Sabrina for me.
  20. I think this probably depends on what you’re comfortable with. If it gets “weird“ feeling you can ignore/block the user—and if gets harassing or includes spam links you can report the individual PMs to the mods. (Speaking personally, it sounds a little odd, especially 3 in one day, but I’m a huge introvert. 🙂)
  21. Me again, another crack at this show, but it’s just a futile effort on my part. I desperately want a show that is primarily about Rue and Jules and their (significant) past and present traumas. (And not in a bottle episode setting, although I watched both.) I find nearly everyone else an unpleasant distraction, which cumulatively takes up far more screen time than R/J. I didn’t need American Psycho and American Psycho Jr to be in this show at all, but the show certainly treats them as integral while giving lots of screen time. They are (IMO) unnecessary antagonists who leave this sort of American Beauty style dread hanging over everything, when the show has plenty of things to keep us worried about (addiction and other mental health issues, child porn, yet another cycle of girls believing their only value is sexual, etc). I like Fez as a character, but it seems like he teleported in from a bad season of True Detective, what with scary tattoo face drug dealer, his weird night ops overlaying the winter formal, etc. I don’t know if I’ll watch S2. If they include and want to continue to unpack Nate and Daddy Nate, and Nate continues to get more screentime than R/J, I will probably pass.
  22. I think I tried season 1 of this last year it couldn’t quite hold my attention. But then I heard Russell T Davies (of all people?) recommend it on a podcast, and it’s been a godsend this weekend while I’m recovering from a neck/shoulder thing. I did admittedly skip to S2, which I thought was fantastic. Stellar casting for all the suspects. I’m midway through S3 now and not quite as engaged with this cast of suspects, who are all kind of samey except the guy in the van, but the writing is very good. S1-3 is up on Amazon Prime, I believe S4 is airing now (which may be why RTD mentioned it in that podcast).

    Pose in the Media

I guess this kind of makes sense (although I haven't read the article just yet). With the speed they were time jumping, they're just going to end up in the most boring part of the 90s anyway, and I'm not sure how many iconic 'ballroom' stories they would have left to tell.
  24. Weird. I recently (re)watched Disclosure, a Netflix doc that includes some scenes from the film of the same name (although I think it's Jaye Davidson singing the song in the clip?). This caused me to listen to the Boy George version, which I had spent decades thinking was a song he wrote. Then I went to try to find covers (because I love covers of everything), and discovered that, no, the song was that many more decades old. Just a weird coincidence to see the post--this is all in like the last 72 hrs. Thread contribution: If there are any metal fans out there, I love Two Minutes To Late Night's covers so much. And it's not all super noisy metal; they do metal-ish arrangements of pop songs like Running Down a Dream, You Make Loving Fun, Rebel Yell, etc.
  25. With the disclaimer that I don't watch a lot of films and this isn't a hill I'm gonna die on-- When I do think of 'black humor' and the kind of black humor I enjoy, there is always at least one redeemable character you can root for, even if the majority of screentime is given over to the bad guys/sociopaths/whatever. Or, in a Fargo type of setup, at least a few characters who are not sociopaths. (The Fargo 'good cop' trope, if you will.) With misanthrope-centered black humor in TV (I think of House MD, You're The Worst), part of the draw is seeing those moments of humanity shine through in these people who are acting in terrible and self-centered/self-destructive ways. (I guess you can throw Dexter in here, but I always hated Dexter's basic premise. Which could also explain why I moved quickly to the "Nope!" crowd on I Care a Lot. It could also explain why I have zero tolerance these days for Very Serious, Very Sociopathic Men Doing Very Serious Crime prestige shows.) Like I said, don't watch much film, but if I think back to a classic black comedy like 'Death Becomes Her', Bruce Willis's character was the one you could root for. I don't know, just my random thoughts on the debate.
