  1. When I look at Christine’s outfits over the past 12 months or so, I kind of feel that she is trying to discover her own style. She seems to be trying a huge array of different styles; from very revealing necklines (the disastrous black gown) to that old-fashioned and very modestly looking yellow and brown outfit a few posts back. Not to mention that tattoo that suddenly made its appearance. It tells me that she is trying to figure it out but she is still all over the place. The fact that she lacks a sense of fashion doesn’t help either. I just wish she’d invest in a personal shopper or go somewhere with a good consultant to provide her with a basic wardrobe and items for special occasions. In my opinion, Christine is a beautiful woman, but some of her choices completely undermine her beauty. (Well, in my opinion…)
  2. It's all she knows and this cult does everything to limit exposure to 'normal' society to a bare minimum. Your family and community will make sure of that. She knows little about "normal" life outside the Gothard cult and has probably learned from an early age that we're dangerous and wrong in every single way. She doesn't know any better. The documentary clearly showed the strong hold this cult has over its followers. Obedience is enforced if necessary. I really think we shouldn't underestimate the pressure she is under. This cult will do everything they can to convince her of her own fault in Josh's downfall and the responsibility to be a meek, faithful and obedient wife. If this is the only thing you'll hear over and over again from your parents, family, friends, counselors and the church, you will believe it eventually. They'll also crush any doubts and ideas she might have about running away. If it is necesssary to use manipulation, blackmail or threats, they will. It's easy to condemn Anna and be disgusted by the "choices" she's made. She doesn't have a free will and never taught to think or speak for herself. Anna is the perfect example of what a Gothard education and his life principles can do to a woman....
  3. As many have said, it’s wrong in every possible way. The color is too harsh on her, the neckline is way too low, and the girls need proper support (especially with such dresses!) Oh and the sunburn with the clear outline of her bathing suit under a strapless gown (color picture a few posts back) is just NO. It looks ridiculous (especially with the harsh black) The big hoops do not bother me that much; I struggle more with Maddie’s, which are too big and hang at an odd angle. She also should have visited a hairdresser; a simple ponytail with evening wear is no match. As for her dress; it is very matronly for a young woman like Maddie…
  4. The biggest problem with the Brown fashion, is their tendency to turn beautiful clothes into something they're not. They want to be trendy and follow fashion, but they don't like the skin-revealing aspects of many clothes. We've all seen the long sleeves and tank tops under blouses or tops that would look a lot better without them. All for the sake of modesty. They even did this with evening gowns! I still cringe when I see some of their choices and how they "altered" them to make them more fitting. (Though I'll admit: Michelle Duggar is way worse!) For Janelle, it is a bigger struggle. Her size doesn't help as unfortunately, it is still difficult to find beautiful, well-fitting, and affordable clothes (and particularly evening gowns) in the bigger plus size range. I also think Janelle struggles a lot more with her body image than she lets on. It's the little comments she makes during the show which tell me so. That makes clothes shopping even more difficult. I think Janelle would really benefit from a good stylist who is conscious of her struggles and respects her wishes. I do have the feeling that clothes have become more important over the past few years. Meri has definitely changed in style and Christine has become a bit more daring. Janelle is looking better every week and I really hope that this boosts her confidence. She really is a beautiful woman, which clearly shows when she puts in a little effort with her hair and makeup.
  5. I’d love to know if she still “coaches” people (if she did so at all?) I suspect it’s just about coaching them toward their next Plexus order!
  6. Considering their very limited education and restricted access to the real world, I suspect the kids literally knew no better for a long time. Dad's the head of the family and as such, he controlled all the finances. The kids had no need for money as they couldn't go shopping and weren't allowed the things a typical teen spends money on (like gadgets and fashion) So I don't think they felt like they missed out on anything. Things changed of course as they got older. It wouldn't surprise me if JB never considered the possibility of having to pay his kids and that they caught him by surprise. Can't remember where I heard it but there were persistent rumors a few years back that he paid some of them a rather meager wage or lump sum as compensation...
  7. Well, to be fair: Janelle only shills Plexus and leads a fairly quiet (social) life. She is able to put a lot of time and effort in her Plexus MLM. Christine was building a whole new life for Truly and herself in Utah, started dating, had Plexus, and until recently, a time-consuming LulaRoe venture to look after. So it doesn't surprise me that Janelle beat her in the Plexus department.
  8. Thanks GeeGolly, that is what I meant when I wrote "another attack" in a previous post. And while J and D's anger is almost completely directed at JB, it is bound to affect Jill's siblings. Most of the Duggar kids seem pretty loyal to their parents and if it doesn't anger them, it sure brings them in a difficult position where they're basically forced to choose sides. I am also not underestimating JB's ability to turn his vision into an absolute truth toward the (younger) kids, making Jill and Derrick the bad ones in their eyes. I'm sure Jill doesn't want to lose them all, which explains her speaking but not speaking up. If it was up to Derrick, all the dirty laundrey would have been aired by now. In detail...
  9. Where I'm from, you'd best buy an existing house that has been well-kept if you want to move right in. New builds are a lot of work. They build the house for you, do the plumbing and electrics according to your specs, and put in the kitchen and bathrooms and that's it. It's up to you to plaster and paint the walls, do the floors, landscaping, the drive, a fence etc. This is one of the reasons why so many new builds over here have horrible popcorn plastering on their walls and ceilings: It's easy and cheap as it can be done in less than a day by a professional who finishes your house in one go.
  10. I just had another look at this 'interesting' chart, and you'd assume that the numbers at the bottom add up to 100%?? At least that's what they taught me at high school. This is 106.02%... Another reason to seriously doubt what they're claiming! Though I absoutely believe that most people hardly make money at all. So I do tend to believe their 88.8% claim for only 446 dollars annually...
  11. Exactly! My first thought was Plexus...never!! And then I had to think about those 'lovely' interior pictures of the inn. And now I feel itchy all over! (I may be wrong here as it could be very clean and crisp, but that's not the vibe I'm getting)
  12. There's something fishy about the $442,000 number... They want us to believe it is what she makes. -->as in net earnings. Janelle runs a business, so I suspect this is revenue. It makes you wonder how much profit she makes once all the costs (including buying the cool aid at a premium price!) have been deducted. Janelle is stuck to one single brand with only one place to buy the stuff from. With no competition, it wouldn't surprise me if at least 50% of what she earns from a sale is owed to Plexus. (If not more!) And then there are other business costs like taxes too. I still think she makes decent money, but I refuse to believe that it is the number quoted above.
  13. I don’t think Jill’s ever going to tell us all. From what I understand, she’s still in touch with quite a few family members. Another attack, no matter how justified, could jeopardise those (fragile) relationships too. Family loyalty and love runs strong and she could lose them all by going public with everything else. I’m sure she’s afraid of that, which is what holds her back.
  14. Michelle is Michelle in her own, rather egocentric way. She is also heavily brainwashed and has slowly morphed into an almost perfect Gothard role model. I'm sure she partly does it for her love for God, but it also gives her a certain level of prestige and status. And prestige and status matter a lot to people who are deeply in love with themselves and believe they are perfect, like Michelle. The baby voice Is incredibly annoying but iirc it is a typical Gothard thing that is highly encouraged in women.
  15. For Truly’s sake, I hope he’ll be the type of bonus parent who can be the father figure she never had.
  16. Agree, if she really made a fortune out of selling those clothes rags, she wouldn’t have walked away from it.

    Mykelti

Yes, they weren’t very supportive toward Mykelti to say the least. The family was 100% into the golden couple’s wedding and had some serious concerns about Mykelti’s whirlwind engagement (which I totally got at the time). But I will say that I found both Mykelti’s and Tony’s behaviour between their engagement and wedding pretty obnoxious and immature. It really was the Tony and Mykelti show, with lots of silly and immature decisions and behaviour. I can see why the family wasn’t leaping for joy back then.
  18. I agree with you when it comes to the respect he seems to show to Aspyn. And fortunately, he is not an attention whore and camera-lover like Tony. I’m glad he has taken Aspyn out of that toxic family. But I’ll admit, I really struggle to see past his polygamous upbringing and his positive views toward polygamy. He said at one point that he was open to the possibility of a polygamous marriage and he is a brother to Vanessa, who is married to Jeff Alldredge from seeking sister wives. Because of this, I am not 100% sure of Mitch. For Aspyn’s sake, I hope I’m wrong.

    Mykelti

I just posted a reply in the social media thread about Mykelti, who at one point said that “she married her dad”…It really got me thinking about Mykelti: How could it be, that one of the most free-spirited, rebellious and quirky Brown kids ended up with a partner that looks so much like her dad? I’d never have pointed at her 10 years ago. Tony is so much like Kody, albeit in his own unique way! True, he’s definitely more laid-back, and no polygamist, but that’s about it. He is as bossy, stubborn and controlling as Kody. He talks the same (sometimes scary) nonsense as Kody about all kinds of things and worldly matters and is as erratic and self-centered as King Kody himself. Oh and neither ever seems to have a “real” grown up job, work very little, yet magically bring the dollars home?? I am not saying Mykelti is unhappy, nor that it is a bad marriage. She seems ok and content with her life and really enjoys her children. But I do find this older, more mature Mykelti meek, without all the fire and passion she had until a few years back….
  20. A lot of women are unconsciously attracted to partners that remind them of their fathers. Unfortunately, not always just the good things. Mykelti is a perfect example of doing so. I’m not 100% sure about Mitch and Caleb. We don’t see a lot of Mitch on the show, but considering his background and the fact that he was open to a polygamous marriage a few years back, tells me that he shares more with Kody than we see on the show. Caleb seems very different but it would not surprise me if he is in fact more conservative and controlling behind closed doors than we think.
  21. I’d buy her book as I suspect her version will be closest to the actual truth, whatever it is. She has always felt to me as the most authentic, and I don’t think she told a lot of lies or gave contradicting accounts during the show, unlike the others.
  22. @SilverStormmis spot on with saying trust no one. I’m trying to decide whether the need for honesty and trust we see in quite a few contestants is naive/plain stupid or a desperate attempt to survive. You have to have allies to stay in after all, whatever the word “ally” means in this show. In a way, it brings out the worst in humanity.
  23. I’ve watched the UK, US and all 3 Dutch seasons and it strikes me to see how quickly the focus shifts from “pure game” to very personal. Every season has a handful of candidates that get absolutely livid and make harsh accusations toward there fellow players when banished. But that’s all part of the game! It’s not real, usually nothing personal and often led by doubts or strategy, but somehow it does become very personal and painful to some. It’s quite fascinating to watch from a psychological point of view. How do we react when you can’t trust anyone? When someone you trust betrays you? Would you share the big money with someone or throw someone under the bus and keep everything for yourself?
  24. Janelle made several disastrous financial mistakes in her life. It could have completely ruined her. Fortunately, she doesn’t care much for luxury or big houses. And little “free” things like the outdoors, will give her plenty of joy. It will help her to lead a comfortable and happy life on very little (to quote your words) once she retires. And I’m sure her kids will be there to support her should it be necessary. And these things are why I am a bit worried about Meri for her future. Yes, she is doing very well on her own. But she is also used to certain palatial standards and lots of space. It means a lot to her, so an adjustment to less won’t come easy. And she also doesn’t have a family support network like Janelle…
  25. It’s called Janelle Logic. One of her many decisions that didn’t make sense.
