  1. I agree with this, which really means I should have more empathy for people like Olivia. I don't know how many folks here watched UnReal, but one of the major themes is that we as an audience may *think* that the contestants on these shows know what they're getting into, but they really don't. You kind of can't. I think a lot of folks think they can game the system, but the system is way more powerful than they realize. Plus, the contestants have zero influence on how they'll be edited. If you think about it it's really insidious. And yet, I continue to watch.
  2. Ha, I know! I expected her to break into phrases like "23 skidoo!" after that. I'm not a conspiracy-theory-oriented person so I don't usually buy into the whole "producer plant" thing, but Olivia brings me dangerously close to changing my mind. I don't think I've ever seen someone that dorky on this show. And not endearingly dorky - irritatingly dorky. Oy.
  3. Ugh, I know. It really is such a wasteful place. I admit the one time I went as an adult I had a blast, but I was also very ready to get out of there by the end of the weekend. Although I did think the Neon Museum was super cool. I'd love to go there! Although I agree that he seems to be barely tolerating Olivia at this point, remember that the rose ceremonies are often (usually?) edited to be televised out of order. It's just one of the things the producers do to ratchet up the drama. Speaking of Olivia, her talent show performance truly was a trainwreck. Good god, woman. I would have been mortified, too. But I feel like so many of these women have no impulse control. Maybe that's just the type who signs up for the Bachelor, or maybe it's their age, or both. But to make an ass of yourself on stage and then repeatedly apologize for it later is NOT helping your cause. Even if you're embarrassed, act like it was fun and you meant it to be goofy. Have some self respect! I feel like I should feel bad for Olivia because she's getting such a terrible edit, but all I can think is, please leave now. I can't handle the vicarious embarrassment any longer!
  4. I see your point of course, but IMO worldliness isn't about how much trauma someone has lived through, and, as Mu Shu stated, plenty of military folk are very sheltered. Wordliness is more about maturity, life experience, and growth. Don't get me wrong - I like her. I just find her very green.
  5. I completely agree, and so far that's really my only issue with Jubilee. She just strikes me as immature and a bit unwordly. None of these things is her fault - it just takes time to develop maturity and graciousness. I admit that I was turned off by the poutiness and the spitting out of food, but I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt. And I hate that all the women attacked her for just being honest about her fear of heights and trying to joke about it (no matter how clunky it came across). It was like, how dare she do anything other than fall to her knees and kiss Ben's feet for deigning to grant her a date? I really like that Ben is obviously kind of spun on her and interested to get to know her. I think it speaks well of him. I can't see them having a lasting relationship but maybe they'll both benefit from getting to know each other.
  6. Man, remember Ice Cube in the 90s? He was SO cool. Now he's like an embarrassing dad who's still making juvenile sex jokes. He didn't just jump the shark - he murdered the poor thing. The way I see it, one or more of the camera people/editors noticed it and realized they'd struck gold. The way they just let the camera linger as it went on forever - freaking hilarious. They did the same thing with Andi on both of her seasons. They'd just let the camera rest on her and her grumpy cat face would work its own special magic. I felt horrible for her. She's not even unattractive. She kinda looks like a poor woman's Gillian Jacobs. But clearly Ben's "science" wasn't into her "science" and she got humiliated on national TV for it. I would NOT want to go out like that.
  7. Yeah, or maybe it's more recognizable to regular social media users in general? I use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pretty frequently. Plus I have (half) sisters and friends still in their 20s, so I'm also pretty exposed to youth culture. This is an excellent point and I agree. Up until now Noah's douchebaggery has seemed more or less believable, but now it's just completely over the top. I know we have to take it all with a grain of salt because of the different storytelling perspectives, but really dude? Suddenly he's drunkenly punching out book critics, hitting on young women indiscriminately, and trying to nail his publicist? He's tipped over into caricature now. He may be even worse than Bruce Butthole.
  8. This line bugged me because I'm Helen and Noah's age, and of COURSE I know what FOMO means! I even suffer from it. I love this show and look forward to it every week, but I do sometimes feel that the 40-somethings act older and more out-of-touch then a lot of us Gen Xers actually are. Just me?
  9. Truth. I was raised by a busy single mom, and I never felt unloved or neglected because I always came first in her life. If a guy wasn't nice to me, he was out the door. She knew she met the right guy when he showed he was perfectly happy to accept me as part of the package deal. They've been married for 30 years now. I'm so totally with Noah's sister. I don't think he really wants custody of the kids that badly, deep down. I think he just thinks it's the right thing to do. He wants to see himself as a good guy and wants everyone else to think he is, too.
  10. Wow, this is one active forum. What all these heated posts tell me is that people get really, really upset and emotional about affairs and the fallout that ensues, even when it's only fictional. Two additional thoughts: 1. That Lucinda Williams song made my ears bleed. If I never have to hear that again it will be too soon. 2. Yay, Cole is finally gonna get some action!
  11. I LOVE this show. I hope each ep just continues to improve upon the previous one. So far we're off to a great start. I love the long takes that just settle in on a character and his or her actions. It gives me a really clear sense of who they are, the various emotions they may be feeling, and how their actions and the actions of others have an impact on them. Just wonderful directing. I'm curious about some of the characters' ethnic/cultural backgrounds. I can't imagine that the Gerhardt's are Jewish, but all that bread definitely looked like Challah. Also, Brad Garrett's character Joe Bulo used the word “farkakte,” which is a Yiddish word that broadly translates as "messed up" or "crappy." Intriguing.
  12. MAN that was good. I think my favorite scene was when Ed was trying to see who or what was in the garage, and he kept hitting the side of the flashlight that wasn't working properly, and it kept flashing on Rye like he was some sort of snarling monster and not a human being at all. It was very Lynchian and utterly awesome. Can't wait for more.

    S02.E02: 202

Just a shallow comment here, but I really, sincerely hope Cole gets some action this season. I would love to see him get over Alison and start putting his life back together, starting with a super steamy sex session, possibly with that nanny.
  14. Ha! To me that look meant, "Oh my god, I can't believe I just slept with a guy who would stand there with his penis in my face right after sex while demanding a very particular type of fruit salad from room service. What a douche." Speaking of Helen's facial expressions, her entire repertoire during that hotel scene was just masterful. I especially loved the look on her face while Max orgasmed while punching the headboard with his fist. My husband and I were cracking up!
  15. I don't understand this either, but I think that's just my aesthetic bias getting in the way since I don't find Dominic West attractive AT ALL. I had to agree with Whitney last season when Alison admitted to her affair with Noah and Whitney said, "But he's so old and your husband is so hot!" Heh.
  16. They were pot capsules. When Max gave them to Helen he said, "For later," which I'm assuming means she can use them at home without the kids smelling pot smoke. To my mind, it's mostly about feeling desired. Allegedly Max has been in love with Helen for 25 years, so it must be pretty powerful (even if it's empty in the long run) to feel so very desired by someone when you've just been publicly dumped by your husband and the father of your four children. Helen is hanging on by a thread right now, but how Max feels about her - and how much he wants her - is helping just a little bit.
  17. Gah, not Jenny Slate! Jenny Slate is way too awesome for this trash. I swear sometimes Tyra has got to be pranking us. Let's have the models do a Vine vid for STEM, then go pose as empty-headed dolls! What? Also, her hair is atrocious this cycle. It's basically a bad 80s cut. Hadassah is beyond dim, but I think she is seriously gorgeous. Mame too.
  18. I dunno guys, I feel for Carly. I feel like women in our society aren't supposed to get mad. I think she's allowed to be mad, and I think she wound up representing herself well in the end by essentially saying, look, I don't hate him. I think he's a good guy. Just, please dudes, don't do this. I also think she's cute. Unlike all the stereotypically hot chicks, she kinda has a cute, retro, Clara Bow look to her. I dig it. Speaking from experience, it's entirely possible to be an introverted person and still have a wild side. I recognize this with Jade because I'm the same way. Your introversion doesn't preclude your adventurous nature - it can just conceal it to anyone who doesn't really know you well.
  19. The one thing this idiot show gets right is constantly saying that high fashion is about selling clothes. If a photo shoot wherein the models look possessed will sell the clothes, then it's a great idea. But those weren't really...clothes, were they? Just kinda billowy sheets. Yep, they're real! Can you believe? I don't particularly like him, but I do love it when people have that coloring. It's caused by either a single genetic mutation called OCA2, or simply the fact that both black parents had light-eyed Europeans somewhere in their ancestry. I actually liked the styling because I love creepy shit like that, but I felt that Yu Sai and the photographer ruined it by their combo of horrible, abusive "creative" directing and terrible photography. And then Tyra, as per yooge, sabotaging the models by picking their worst shots instead of their best ones. I hate, hate, HATE fat shaming, and I don't think Whitney is anywhere near obese, but I do have to admit I was a bit shocked by her weight gain. I thought she was gorgeous and sexy during her season (minority opinion, I know), but she really did put on quite a bit of weight since then. I wonder if she needed to in order to be a plus-sized model of a certain variety? Perhaps she wasn't large enough before? As long as she's healthy I don't care, but yes, I was a bit shocked.
  20. And Cassandra reminds me of a low-budget version of Morena Baccarin.
  21. I actually think Mackenzie is really, really pretty in a young, ditzy, 70s babe kind of way. Dumb as a bag of hair, but strikingly pretty and fresh-faced. I also find Ashley I. stunning. A girlfriend and I were discussing this over the weekend (god help us). We were saying that Ashley I. could have her pick of men if she just wasn't so spoiled, immature, and insecure. I always tell the millennials in my life that confidence, maturity and self-awareness will get you way farther than you think in the world of romance (and the world in general). Of course, there are octogenarians who never learn this lesson. I know some folks love Jaclyn for her snark, but to me something about her is very, very sad. Bordering on tragic. I think *she* thinks she's working the franchise, but in truth I think the franchise is working her. In a sea of above average looks, she just stands out as exceedingly homely and very bitter about it.
  22. My take on this whole bizarro mess is that she really did like him, but she's kind of a sheep and ultimately decided she'd rather not damage her "Bachelor family" status by dating him any longer. But she's a moron, so she didn't realize it was too late by then - the damage had already been done. Also, I don't think it even occurred to her that she was out of his league until Joe said so. So then she's like, well my friends hate you AND even you think I can do better, so Bye, Felicia! Like many of you, I am so confused by Samantha's appeal. What kind of crazy juju whammy is she putting on these guys (and gals) to make them all want to bask in her supposedly divine presence? I get that men tend to be highly visual, but at what point does that dull, namby pamby personality start to taint the whole Samantha experience? She also has a seriously crappy sense of style (the hair, the clothes), but I get that most men don't care about that either.
  23. Talk about the blind leading the blind. That was an epically bad idea that was even worse when Joe tried to execute it than I was expecting. Hey Ashley I. and Joe, here’s a short list of what NOT to do when you’re interested in someone romantically: - Tell them they’re out of your league - Prominently display a complete lack of confidence - Constantly tell them how hot they are (a little is flattering, a lot is creepy and pathetic) - Whine about how no one you like ever likes you back - Cry constantly - Threaten them - Stalk them - Refuse to take no for an answer Shall I go on? There seems to be a complete lack of understanding among these folks that just because you want something (or someone) doesn’t mean you’re entitled to it (or them). I think it’s tied into our reality TV culture. How many reality show contestants have we seen utter some version of, “I want this very badly, therefore I should have it.” Life doesn’t work that way, and love certainly doesn’t.
  24. My take is that Amber is quite pretty, but she doesn't "represent" well on camera. I bet she's stunning IRL. She's also too boring (aka normal) for this franchise. I'm fond of Ashely and her animal-loving self, but don't find her to be the great beauty that everyone seems to think she is. Her lips are sooo thin.
