  1. I call him Todd too! Yeah OLTL! I watched the show during his run and immediately stopped after Evangeline went into a coma but oh the memories...and wait, he turned out to be someone else? Amazing. So yeah, it really is odd how they've set up the friendships on this show. They've adequately shown the bond between the alien squad but not so much with the humans. OG Roswell did a much better job at showing how close Liz was with Maria and Alex, which I guess is easier to display with a bunch of high schoolers who constantly have to be together? But we're supposed to *believe* that Maria and Rosa are friends and that Maria and Alex are super close when they show us NOTHING and I'm not feeling that AT ALL. Which is partly why I don't buy all the arguments about Maria stabbing her friend in the back...there's no there there. No interest in the Alex/Forest storyline. Ditto on Cameron and her sister. I actually missed Kyle and Steph. I really want to know what her deal is! I'm here for Isobel training Maria and Rosa how to properly use their powers. Here for the visions, here for reading minds, here for the lightbulbs. Also don't really care if Michael and Maria are MFEO or endgame but they had some touching moments this episode that I really loved. As much as the actor irritates me, he's got palpable chemistry with both of his love interests and I agree with an earlier post: Heather does so much with the little she's given. All in all though, this season is weird and all over the place.
  2. Agree! I've actually liked Steph from the start. She's super sexy and I dig the chemistry that she has with Kyle. She's obviously hiding something and someone else mentioned this...but did they even mention the surgery that she had? She looked ill to me during this episode and when he mentioned her being a ghost I was like, yep...that makes sense. Would prefer if they didn't go the Denny Duquette route though. This was the best episode of the second season so far. I enjoyed the Ortecho showdown and loved that we're getting more of Maria and her abilities. They hinted at it more than once last season and I've always wondered about it. Not even a little bit!
  3. I'm trying to understand how the interview that Heather gave was so horrible. I mean, I think if I viewed Alex as a perpetual victim I might get it. She's talking about how she played a scene and where she imagined Maria was coming from. She didn't write the scene, of course, but she did act it out because it's her job. The fact that she was so chill about Maria being selfish and wanting things to work in her favor clearly didn't go over well. Whoops. Did I think the threesome scene was wack? Hell yeah. But the new and improved ways in which to demonize Maria makes my head spin. Again, I blame the writers. How could they not see the fans coming for her because of this? Everyone's doing a lot of detective work, ignoring dialogue and instead saying that if you *look* at Alex's body language you'd SEE that he was so uncomfortable and that MEANS that he was FORCED...it's a lot. I actually shipped both couples in the first season and now I don't want any of them to be together. It's just ruined. There were just so many better ways to handle their love triangle. I really enjoyed Isobel and Kyle's flirtations! And I'm glad that dark Max is back to teddy bear Max OR IS HE...
  4. When the character said that...nice try. I actually found an interview with Tyler where he's describing all of his heritage and he says that he's part Welsh and Yugoslavian which is the reason why he has a lot of "darker features". I think there's a very specific Indigenous look that these casting directors go for and unfortunately it's white folks who can tan (and these actors never give the specific nation that they're from just a general Cherokee or something else). I am happy see Amber and Kiowa getting work though.
  5. Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a little while now and apologies for awkwardly jumping in! The first half of the first season was solid for me: loved Liz, loved her chemistry with Max, thought Alex and Michael were adorable, digged Maria and her style and flair and lowkey abilities...was intrigued by her budding relationship with Michael... While I watched I made the mistake of checking out the hashtags on twitter. Surprise! A lot of hatred (like, super intense) for the black female character and a lot of fetishizing and infantilizing of the (white) gay male characters. I mostly blame the writers for writing Maria as the 3rd wheel because C'MON. Completely agree with this. For the most part when a white passing actor says that they're Cherokee I usually take it with a grain of salt, it's just a very *very* common family folklore. And even if it were true, that does not make a person "of color" IMO. Tyler lives his life ostensibly as a white man. Fans weaponize "MOC" to excuse their racism. The conversation between Alex and Maria was clearly written to encourage rabid fans to *chill*, but no matter what came out of St. Alex's mouth Maria is forever a villian. I liked the Crashdown dream scenes for the aesthetics. Everything else...meh.
