  1. Yay! No more Chantelle! Too bad the new champ is kind of dull, though. (Yeah, I know, I'm never happy.) Why couldn't that have been my FJ? I would've bet it all on that category, and damn it, I would've been right. Edward I falls right in my area of expertise; I could've filled my interview segment for a week with interesting facts about Longshanks, the Hammer of the Scots. Don't get me wrong, I really like the song. It just isn't in my Top 5. Top 20, probably.
  2. Given current airport security, this one doesn't work anymore. No way would TSA agents let someone through to the gate just so they could declare their love - no ticket, no getting past them. (Well, except for psychos.) Hell, you couldn't do that in 2003 when Love Actually used this old chestnut, although I do realize that may have been filmed before the extensive post-9/11 security measures were put in place. Of course, without this trope on tv, we'd never have gotten Chandler asking some random Arab woman if he could stay with her when they got to Yemen, so . . .
  3. I find that shirts and sweaters are either tunics or too short to cover the bits I want covered. That Untuckit commercial (or maybe just the company founder) is the definition of hipster pretentiousness. Hmmm . . . that's an idea. I wear two-piece suits - skirted bottom and a top which is long enough to come down over the waist of the bottoms - because it's too damned hard to get a one-piece out of the way when you have to pee. But the board shorts would be even better.
  4. I love that Timothy Omundson's Eric was basically a grown-up, boring, uptight version of Jason. He was quite attractive, but so, so dull as a person. Still, I could see why Nan was attracted to him at first. Poor Martin with the natural raw food dinner. I loved him racing around the house testing his athleticism.
  5. Two, count 'em, TWO, Elvis Costello clues in the same category! Where were they when I was on Jeopardy? (Yes, I got them both right.) The main reason I picked up High Fidelity in the first place was the bit on the back of the book describing how the record store employees made up Top 5 lists all the time, including Top 5 Elvis Costello Songs. High Fidelity wouldn't be on my Top 5 EC Songs list, but it is a terrific book. I did pretty well with stumpers in this game, and then didn't get FJ in a category on which I would've bet everything. Totally forgot about Charlie Chaplin, although RDJ completely deserved that nomination. Phooey - another day of Chantelle. Yay. Although my choices were her, really dumb in the first round Tracy, and had to read the entire category title for every pick Mike. I went with Tracy in the end because she picked up her game in DJ. I will confess to saying Aztecs. At least mine were actually in Mesoamerica. I will claim to not have heard the entire clue since I was in the kitchen; that may, or may not, have made a difference. It certainly would've for Appalachian Spring, where I answered Aaron Copland because I thought they were asking for the composer.
  6. There are only two movies I really want to see this summer, and this is one of them. (Dunkirk is the other.) Looks terrific.
  7. Ours were mostly arranged by our corporate offices, but occasionally an employee had a connection with someone local. That's how the Charles Todd event happened - a friend of the family worked in our store. I worked for the late, much lamented Borders, at a store in Delaware. Surprisingly, we were pretty much always one of their top ten performing stores (Top 5 after 9-11) despite being in the relative middle of nowhere. So we got some good authors now and then. We had Nora Roberts once, but I was on vacation and didn't get to meet her; apparently she was nice.
  8. I thought of Wisconsin, then said Wyoming for some stupid reason. Also didn't get George III, even though it made perfect sense. I did get a lot of other TSs. I said the Via Appia for FJ - obviously I have no idea where the Amur river is. I really hope Chantelle is a one-and-done champ. I don't like how slow she is at picking clues, and her hunching over the podium bugs me. Plus, what was up with the weird way she pronounced Wagner?
  9. Based on the recent interview in Entertainment Weekly, I suspect that this is not the Tick reboot for which I was hoping. I don't want a dark, pensive, Dark Knight-like version centered around Arthur. I enjoyed the animated version because it was absurd and funny and exceedingly clever. I may still watch at least the first episode, but my anticipation level has definitely lowered.
  10. Thank you, truthaboutluv, for your answer. I had just thrown my random thought out there, and you took the time to offer insight. I appreciate that.
  11. I was torn about Wonder Woman. On one hand, this ^^^^; on the other hand, if it bombed, maybe they'd make fewer damned super hero/comic book movies. Although I realize that had it bombed, studios would've blamed it on being a female super hero.
  12. I worked in a bookstore for more than a decade, and we tended to judge authors by how they treated the employees who worked their events. (Brian Jacques was a bit iffy, but the mother/son team who write as Charles Todd were absolute dolls.) Behavior like you've described would put me off an author permanently, so I admire anyone's ability to separate behavior from writing.
  13. If you live near Philadelphia, the station I listen to is 104.5fm. It's not perfect (too much Red Hot Chili Peppers), but it's mostly good.
  14. I'll preface this by saying that I don't care about Miley Cyrus one way or the other, but can't she have genuinely appreciated it at the time, and yet still move one to something else? Can't it simply be that her interests have changed, or that she's trying to grow as an artist?
  15. I guess I'm a Gen X-er (born in 1965), but musically, I'm a baby boomer. Maybe it's because my musical taste was heavily influenced by my brother, who's 5 years older. The only songs I even know on the Singles soundtrack are the ones originally by Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix.
  16. Thanks to an alt-rock station I listen to, I knew about Bastille, The Airborne Toxic Event, The Lumineers, Of Monsters & Men, and Vance Joy (among others) long before they ever hit mainstream Top 40 type radio. But if I had to depend on Top 40-ish radio for new music, it would be a long wait.
  17. I wouldn't mind having a vacation house there, but living so far from everything would drive me insane eventually. I'd end up as the killer that Douglas Henshall arrests at the end of the episode. Not that I'd mind THAT.
  18. Mancunian, but otherwise, you are correct. The last time a clue called for Upton Sinclair, I actually got it right, mainly by saying the exact opposite of what I thought was the answer.
  19. Nope, I was being honest. I know diddly-squat about Herbert Hoover other than he was president. Maybe the one when the Stock Market Crash hit? Engineer + president meant nothing to me. Even the dates didn't help. Presidential and political categories are the bane of my Jeopardy existence. I'll confess to answering The Meuse instead of The Marne to that WWI battle question, despite knowing about replacement troops being frantically ferried out to the battle by taxis from Paris, known as the Taxis of the Marne. D'oh.
  20. It took me more than one viewing to get that he was narrating his own actions, but once I did, I loved it. Especially the squinty eyes.
  21. That said, I actually liked the concept of this season and thought that it worked for the most part. I enjoyed this season quite a bit. I don't need the built-in drama of pre-existing relationships because the interpersonal drama is not why I watch AR.
  22. UGH! Not the worst winners ever, because Kendra exists, but definitely down there with Flo.
  23. I find the idea of a "women-only" screening of Wonder Woman kind of stupid. Not discriminatory, just pointless.
  24. The same way I did, by not knowing diddly-squat about Herbert Hoover?
  25. It came out after I got tired of H&O, apparently. Out of Touch is the last hit of theirs that I remember.
