  1. Carly has had so many warning flags though. For me that night they watched a film and she wanted to hold hands but he didn't want to at first. Then later on he tells her that they shouldn't have to do anything like that because it makes him feel uncomfortable but it doesn't make her uncomfortable not to do it. Like, he just assumed it was ok for her to have a boyfriend without the physicality. I feel like they are using each other but it is all so cringeworthy. He is the ultimate "fixer 'er upper" so Carly no doubt enjoys that, to an extent. For him, he just sees everyone else and thinks that if they have a partner than so should he. There is no real understanding of anything he wants though. It's like a child who says they want a new toy because their friends all have one. Then he gets the toy and casts it aside because it was more exciting from afar and when he didn't have one.
  2. I have no sympathy for her at all. She knew what he was like, that 1,000 yard stare he has if nothing else is enough to make you realize he is not on the same wavelength. Given she works in the medical field she should be even more aware of how futile it all is. Is the show depressing though? I am starting to think I have got it all wrong. It's a comedy, right? I mean trying to get a kid into a strip club, trying to seduce an autistic man, a doctor flashing her boobs at an underage patient, an autistic doctor? I mean, it's not meant to be taken seriously, right? I very much feel like that. I can't help but wonder if she succeeds to a point that satisfies her curiosity will she just dump him.
  3. Agreed it was a really dumb episode. Why wouldn't they just go to the kid and his family and tell them that they have proof/information that the kid committed perjury and fraud? If nothing else they may have backed down, case closed. I think they made the Insurance Co. woman into such a bitch because we were supposed to feel good when she lost. But I saw her as the only intelligent person in the whole ep. Except for when she didn't act on Bull disclosing he had confidential documents from her company. Or is that just considered acceptable practice now? I did like seeing Samantha Mathis again, have had a soft spot for ever since her first film Pump Up The Volume. Benny as per usual just annoyed me and I still don't quite understand what purpose the tall guy who likes loud suits serves.
  4. Well she is though. How would you feel if a man was told by his girlfriend that she isn't ready/uncomfortable whatever and than that man does some research and has another attempt at it? I doubt you would be so understanding. I think at some point she needs to step away from what he is saying and look at how he is behaving. Because his words and his actions do not align. I recall when they watched a film and she wanted to hold his hand/put her arm around him, I don't recall which. He was very upset about it and even came back with how he shouldn't have to do it because it makes him uncomfortable. There was her hint that it wasn't going to work. If he needs to have a girlfriend at all he needs one who is quite happy without the sex and the need for touch. As you say we don't see much of their relationship outside of attempts of sex/physical closeness, perhaps he needs a woman who is some kind of genius and they get their closeness through intense intellectual discussion?
  5. I guess it is just weird. If Shaun wasn't autistic and say just a shy virgin then I can see how Carly's approach would be fine. But I just can't help but keep thinking that if Shaun were a female and someone was trying to find ways to bed them than it would be a whole different story. That is the same reason I am critical of Reznick flashing the kid the other ep. Yes, he was very confident and knew exactly what he wanted and understood that. Fine but in the end she was still the adult and he was still a kid. In fact, lets say he was an adult about to go blind and see one last pair of breasts and she flashed him, that is still unprofessional on her part. So I guess I take a pretty hard line approach to it all. I agree though, Shaun comes across as immature and that is what adds to Carly being creepy in my opinion.
  6. You can criticize me as much as you like however the fact is Shaun leaves little confidence in me. I doubt he would be able to handle a break up well. I also think the way Claire has treated him has been rather cruel. It would be cruel to anyone but especially someone like Shaun. It doesn't help that Carly and Shaun have zero connection/chemistry. Carly was so mechanical in her seduction attempt. Yeah, gotta disagree, Shaun as a father would be a disaster. Just because he wants to be one doesn't mean he should. Yep, I think that is why it feels so creepy. He is childlike no matter what some people may like to think. Now, this doesn't mean all autistic people are like Shaun but we are discussing Shaun here and this show. Shaun is seriously naive and socially incompetent. I agree that Carly is also experimenting. She should know better overall. I don't think it is a prejudice to be honest. It is being real about the situation. For example if I (you?) were in a hospital and this odd person approached you and said they were going to be your doctor, would you accept them as such? I certainly wouldn't, my body, my health, I need to feel confident. He may be able to choose for himself but can he handle the consequences? I still have my doubts. Again in regards to reversing the genders. The whole #metoo movement has made many men very cynical about trusting women when it comes to sex, also false rape claims in general. In my country the Feminists even talk about "enthusiastic consent" in terms of sex and lots of other things which make sex a mine field legally. My point is that it is risky enough to try that with a non mentally impaired woman let alone pursue one who has autism. I can just see that going wrong fast and all the things I have mentioned being used by the prosecuting attorney. EG :"So you knew my client was autistic and struggles with understanding basic social protocols and yet, you still pursued them sexually? Even though you knew that even a hug makes them feel very uncomfortable?" Fantasy land is great, real world is another story!
  7. I think society in general would have a huge problem with a man pursuing an autistic woman as shown in here. For me there's a few things going on here, 1/ The reality is that even though Shaun may be a genius in the medical field, socially he is lacking the skills and basic understanding. 2/ His autism means that closeness, both physical and emotional can be difficult for him. He expressed that he is uncomfortable with sex. Now, we have it drummed into us that when someone isn't keen on sex than it's time to stop. Again, if Shaun was a Shauna and the man tried other tact/kept pressing than there would be serious repercussions. 3/ I think Carly should just give up. I believe she is creepy for even wanting a relationship with him. I think for Shaun all of this is like some kind of experiment/game. He is like a child that has been thrown into the adult world. Can he choose for himself? I don't believe so. What if he got her pregnant? Or she tricks him and gets pregnant? Is he capable of being a father, is it fair he be forced to pay child support? The whole concept of this show is all well and good in fantasy land but in the real world it's just not that simple. Same with the story line about the Doctor flashing her breasts at the underage patient as well as trying to get him into a strip club.
  8. Is that what it is? I kept wondering why it looked so bad! Such an unsexy hairstyle especially for someone who is trying to be sexy!
  9. I would guess if either doctor were caught out then it could possibly be up to a judge to decide if it were worthy of a trial or not. I can see the kindness/humanitarian grounds but they have to be applied equally. Often we see female sex abusers get away with things male sex abusers don't get away with. And when I say "sex abusers" I mean primarily teachers who have sex with students, it seems more acceptable for a female teacher to do that than a male.
  10. I agree they don't even seem like friends let alone lovers. Yeah I think she should just give up and honestly should never have bothered to begin with. He operates on his own frequency, leave him be. Doesn't matter if he thinks he wants sex or a girlfriend or not. As per my other post I don't even think this discussion would be happening if Shaun was a Shauna, it would be considered sick and twisted for anyone to be wanting to have a relationship with an autistic woman. Let alone applying the pressure. I think it would be a different story if Shaun were female. I don't think it would be a good look for a man to be even pursuing an autistic woman let alone wanting to have sex with her. The lack of chemistry as well makes it even weirder for me.
  11. He would have ended up a lot like Lord Mountbatten cast aside in the end when he refused to go along with Govt orders. He was too old to serve in any war and may not have been a good leader in that respect anyway. I can't help but wonder why he didn't fly to the US to see the spaceship take off with his own eyes. He certainly had the power to do so. Right about the Queen, I think her dream was still with the proviso she was wealthy! I also wonder how much she really knew about horses, funny because unless I missed something up until now you haven't seen her show much interest in horses and now it's the passion of her life? No they don't have any concept and that is what makes it hard to watch at times because really there is no one to root for. Anne is probably the closest and I feel some sympathy for Charles but that is it.
  12. So true about Lou! She has a nice face but body wise her legs are like tooth picks, not really the image I have when I think of a sex goddess. Personality wise she isn't what I would consider charming or alluring either. Ashley was hot and Georgie now that she is grown up have it. I was always bored with Lou and her take charge mentality. Her intelligence is overstated as well as her looks. She married Peter knowing his work meant he travelled then complained about it. Never understood that. My other problem with them taking on Luke is that to me they aren't really great parents. The show doesn't allow them to be. Remember when they went off to Mongolia for a horse's mental well being?! Who does that when you have a newborn?! That whole story line was a joke anyway.
  13. Yes, that was my point really. Working class people can't afford much navel gazing. We have to get on with it or risk losing what little we may have. I suppose that is my problem. I don't see a great deal of value in their work. He visits a factory makes a speech. I see the same kind of crap at my work where the bosses make speeches that are empty, shake hands etc They don't realize they are being counter productive a lot of the time because we don't believe them and they do the opposite of what they say in the end! I think Phil wants more but I don't know if he was King or had never married the Queen if he would have achieved what he wanted anyway. I think he likes to blame that but it's just an excuse/easy thing to blame.
  14. The scenes where the servants are holding the basin's for them while they brush their teeth and even spit! The scene where Phil has the servant change the channel! How grossly obscene is that, sure it gives this poor slob a job but it is so denigrating. I agree, some of them seem so out of touch. Margaret for example who thinks she would be a better Queen seems to be one of the worst. I think the PM's come down to personality. Wilson seemed like a gentle kind of man whereas Heath from the outset was rougher. Their upbringings say it all. Wilson came from a political family so would have been well educated in how to deal with people. Heath was lower working class so had a more straight forward nature about him.
  15. Couldn't they just take the kid to an art class? Are they really that naive they thought a strip club would let him in? The female doctor by law abused the child by exposing herself to him, doesn't matter how much he may have wanted to see boobs etc. And she was unprofessional. Flip the genders and imagine a male or female doctor doing this to a female underage patient.
