  1. I like that the episode titles are the names of other TV shows: New Girl, Growing Pains, Girlfriends. It would be really neat to predict the title of the upcoming episode based on the previous one. Maybe someone here is witty enough to name a show that goes with the implied threat of Step Right Up’s cancelation? I really have no idea why Zack and Elaine were breakfasting to start with. There didn’t seem to be an in-episode reason given. Was it that she was going to cut him from the show to make room for another stunt cast (a la Timberly)? The rapid-fire googling from Bree’s post-coital position was my favorite part of the ep (“what is ‘yous laid’”).
  2. Yay, a watchable episode! And with Melanie back on the train, only her actual death can prevent Jennifer Connelly from appearing… RIGHT?! ITA that it’s abrupt of Melanie to disrupt the party without even trying to pull aside Alex first. Also, I’ll say it - GD, do Rowan Blanchard, Katie McGuinness, and Jennifer Connelly clean up good. I felt this was all consistent with Mel’s previous characterization. She and Layton were never aligned ideologically. Layton’s characterization, on the other hand, is just really weak. He leads the train but has no backup plan for Mel’s sabotage or for New Eden’s inevitable failure, which the viewers and he specifically know is made up? LJ is stupid annoying as a character, but she has moves and countermoves. Look at how she turned the tables on Oz.
  3. I agree; this show has totally failed to fill the gap of Melanie being missing, and Sean Bean, for all his charisma, is a few-dimensional villain whose motivations are so uninteresting that he can’t fill the void alone. On paper this show’s plot developments are truly ridiculous. First there was a single train carrying the rest of humanity. Then there was a second train. And now there’s a THIRD, zombie-ing around, which might have Melanie in it but will probably just contain a message in a bottle with instructions on how to find her, letting them prolong Jennifer Connelly’s absence for another season. A Season 4 renewal was already announced, which bodes very badly because the writing feels totally phoned in at this point, so there’s no reason for the show runners to try hard next time.
  4. the fire wasn’t part of the tradition. Pike rigged the fire to start when the Christmas lights turned on. My episode notes: are the writers also already bored with Asha? Where was she? when do we get to New Eden? Can the arrival there please not be the season ending cliffhanger? there isn’t even plot tension because we know (because the characters know) that it’s going to be a letdown.
  5. Asha’s lie just seems unnecessary. It is only needed for Layton to rig a vote, which vote he’s under no obligation to call… Plus Layton’s last attempt at democracy went totally sideways, so I don’t know who’s asking for a V2. once Wilford was in the brig, the narrative tension completely left the episode. And there were still 10 minutes to go.
  6. Is Javi just doomed always to pick the wrong side? Remember when he wanted to let Ruth and GI Joe into the engine without a fight? Now he’s running from Ruth in the opposite direction, clearly identifying himself to Kevin as a member of the resistance, not building a self-defeat mechanism into the EMP while aiding in its construction… Sucks to be the actor who played the other Dr. Headwood, dying offscreen. I wondered if it was more lies, but it seems if one of the Headwoods got sick, the other would certainly have been the one to diagnose.
  7. I don’t think there was anything mentioned... I had been thinking that it’s an Ivy that’s as geographically far from SoCal as possible, but as I reply I realize that Harvard is even farther. totally loved this show. To hit on a point that others haven’t covered in the topic, Mohan has real charisma and I loved how he was used. Such a treat to see him interact with Devi, her mom, and both of them together. And can the actress actually play the harp?? It was beautiful. I think Ben needs Devi because they’re intellectual equals and his home life is so lonely, while Paxton only wants Devi because he's curious and his sister's opinion matters to him.
  8. When I saw a budget of $200 for a meal inside the Memorial Coliseum, i had the impression the challenge was impossible. Then I learned there were only 12 diners. did they say why Gail didn’t join? Nilou's critiques and presence are noticeably of a lower level. wanted BV's dish, and ITA with Bastet. As appetizing as sand. I think the minimalist Kaiseki progression, which I learned about for the first time, helps me understand sushi a little better. It’s about the fish, and bringing it out just a tiny bit. Hopefully I’ll make some foodie friends irl someday and get to try such a menu...
  9. Voltaggio's fan club - it’s a good thing there was no formal fan vote, for Karen and everyone else’s sake. And how does he call that a bean dish? He’s gotten away from the prompt a few times now. He might win if he makes the finale but he’s close to not getting there. I really loved the plating on Lee Anne's donut. It’s too bad that it had issues. I knew right away from Tom's reaction, so it’s funny that someone else at the table had to ask! I like Brooke because she's a prodigy. Her stint on Guy Fieri's Tournament of Champions impressed me. Karen's corn cake came off well for something that she just kind of threw out there.
  10. The more I think about it, the more I think that two immunities today made no sense. This isn’t a challenge where men should have a natural advantage over women, which is generally why they’d put up two immunities to begin with. I’m no biologist or doctor, but I don’t follow. Denise is fit af and Tony is built too; that's not gender, it’s gym time. Having two immunities (particularly at F8, as mentioned up thread) absolutely opened a door for shenanigans. also thought that Probst would snatch the food away when the challenge ended, without giving anyone a chance to eat, since he had just said that they could eat until the challenge was over, and 3 people just immediately dropped out.
  11. I love how Parvati is such a fan of the game and still has its pulse after being on EoE for like 7 tribal councils, such that she knows Kim erred in giving in on the immunity challenge. not really rooting for anyone who’s left. Nick just wants to slide into your alliance, Michele has been treading water, Jeremy is pissed for no reason, Ben has been in over his head since it started, Sarah is spiteful, Denise has been invisible since the Sandra vote, and Tony is exhausting, both to watch and apparently to play with. I hope the EoE returnee shakes things up.
  12. From the title of the second LCK episode, I thought Nini had won, since it was a quote of hers (“Kick Down the Doors”; can’t remember exact words). seeing burned food must have a subtle impact on Tom's judgment. even if they say it doesn’t taste burned, they know it was!
  13. Jeremy seems in over his head. He had hours to expect blowback from the tribal council he left his alliance to deal with, and they delivered it, and two days later he's somehow not looking for cracks in Kim and Denise's facade? want to echo that Tony pulled off something masterful. He learned from being voted out early in Game Changers. He’s laid low and played his way into a game starting point where more than half the players are on EoE. The path to the final is clearer and he’s got a group of 4 with 8 players left. Plus he's the one calling the shots in that group. I wonder how much more Parvati and Natalie could have extorted if they had asked for more. 8? Apparently Jeremy didn’t check back in with Kim and Denise. I wonder why? They weren’t strongly aligned with Sophies faction, and Tony's word (anyone's word) should not be enough to go on.
  14. Without steal-a-vote, it's 5-4 for Sarah's team, leaving them vulnerable to an idol. They can’t split the vote in this scenario because they either lose (3-2 split vs. 4 opposing votes; they lose) or are still vulnerable to an idol (4-1 split vs. 4 opposing votes; idol played correctly leads to one of the 5 going home). does anyone know about Sophie's idol besides Sophie?
  15. Me three wondering where the third vote for Sophie went. There should have been another. there were 9 votes, and they revealed 2 Sophie, 2 Denise, 4 Tyson. Have to presume the unseen vote was also a Tyson. So had Kim picked Tyson for immunity, that’s a revote or rocks, depending upon whatever rule set is in effect now. I knew by the non-reaction of Sophie's group that Kim had played her idol for the wrong person. Of course, had she picked Tyson, there's still Sophie's immunity idol to play. I think the last remaining advantage is Michele's 50-50 coin.
