Yes, and the sheriff was deliberately vague, either because it's part of another ongoing investigation or because he doesn't want to prejudice people against the victims. Or he doesn't think there is enough evidence to say for sure they were involved (it was the other police department who originally had the case and didn't act quickly). At the time her phone pinged the local police knew the general area but did not know whose property she was on. The sheriff's department did the eventual plane searches and narrowed it down. So there was no connection between them so far as the police knew back then. This is just what I have interpreted, there seem to be major pieces still missing to the puzzle. I think if there were evidence of a grow operation or meth lab at the perp's property the police would have mentioned it by now. They are biohazards. Reporters would have seen clean up crews coming and going, too. Anyone else think it's rather coincidental that Carver and Brown were both on a fetish site, and she ended up chained and confined, fed only once a day and allowed out when he permitted? Like a master/slave relationship, minus the consensual component? Hmmmm. Maybe that is the illegal activity the sheriff alluded to? That part of the country is not very progressive, they may think of kink as criminal.

The way I took the Sheriff's words, I thought he was only referring to the victims as being involved in an illegal activity, not the killer as well. But I may have misinterpreted. What sort of activity would cause the police to not worry if you're reported missing? Drug mules? I have no idea. :(

If you break the skin it bleeds heavily and often looks worse than it is. Did they specify what kind of owl supposedly murdered Kathleen? Because I have some opinions about wing span and the space involved, and the lack of feathers or other owl evidence at the scene. They are brilliant predators but this would not have been a precision strike while hunting rodents. The owl would have been in a fury. It's a follow-up to Nobody's Fool, which I heartily recommend along with his other works. Everybody's Fool is off to a wonderful start on page 2 with a cemetery that everyone drives through because the markers are flat. lol

I have compassion for people as fellow humans, even the "bad" ones. But for me that's different than feeling sorry for someone who, let's say, deliberately covered up a murder and misled law enforcement, wasting millions of taxpayer dollars and courted the spotlight in the process. Actions have consequences. My sympathies are with the victim and the people working to solve the crime. Of course Patsy might be completely innocent in all of this. I really have no idea. Ladies and gents, I believe we've found the killer! Only a savage would end their sentence with a preposition. :D ETA: that housekeeper sounds bonkers

ClareWalks: Exactly! Shelley Duvall has always been a bit... off-center. It's true that mental illness can escalate but really this just seems like a publicity stunt to me. The rigged up scarf just sort of encapsulates Patsy for me. Her "showcase" house was a dirty mess. Her "star daughter" was in tacky pageants. Her "Jackie Kennedy mourning veil" was a scarf pinned to a hat. She wanted so badly to be in the social elite but just couldn't hide her inner bumpkin, like a piece of toilet paper stuck to the bottom of her shoe. The other day I read that people in Boulder used to laugh at how she went out in big hats, like someone off the set of Dynasty. I feel sorry for her (assuming she didn't kill her daughter or lie about it).

My understanding is it was the Spartanburg County Sheriff's office (not the local PD who took the original missing person report) who got the search warrant, based on combing through phone records after they got involved. The local PD already knew where Kala's phone had last pinged but did not act immediately because they had no indication of foul play (I think this is where the alleged illegal activity comes into it). So maybe the phone records were the tip? This ep did not do a very good job of explaining things. They wasted too much air time on the damn mother imo.

So Jon's version of the alleged kidnapping is that Hannah refused to get out of his car when he took her back to Kate's house. He claims Hannah was anxious and stressed out. And after a while he gave up and texted Kate and told her to come get Hannah from his place. Kate called the cops and claimed it was kidnapping. They're both playing terrible mind games IMO. And I hope when the kids are of age they tell both parents to fuck right off, publically, since Jon and Kate love to be in the tabloids so much.

This was very unsatisfying. They never really delved into how or why that drifter would target Baby Lisa nor did they go into much evidence for suspecting the mother. I sure hope that baby got handed off to someone who knew how to care for her. :(

Yes he needed help, but according to his mother he should not have gone to jail for raping that poor girl at gunpoint because he walked her home so obviously he is not a bad person. It's in her letter to the court. I cannot with this woman. She left out the part where he actually fired the weapon at the girl but it misfired.
