Privilege is such a double edged sword.  I hope none of their children grow up feeling that they are owed their privileges.

I never liked Monique because of that "I have 4 homes" talk.  I realize she was trying to best Gizelle but...no sis.  If you talk like that, if your kids hear you talk like that then they'll talk like that to other kids and turn into a spoiled brat, just like Gizelle.

    THIS! ⬆️

Gizelle is so messy and full of jealousy, yet she gets away with everything.  She’s a fraud.  She’s due for her comeuppance next season. It’s a amazing that a beautiful woman like Gizelle, with the influence of her sweet father, turned out to be such a spoiled brat.  She reminds me of the fraud Phaedra Parks. Appearances are deceiving.

I think Wendy described Gizelle perfectly in part 1.  They were talking about how Gizelle really can't dress and Wendy said something like, Gizelle is so pretty she never had to try.

About three years ago this comic strip was floating around about privilege and one of the things it showed is that when people have privilege all their lives, they begin to think they deserve it.  The irony is that Monique's children (Monique has 4 houses, remember?) will have that same type of privilege.

At any rate, the Gooniques are all screaming that Andy gaslighted (is that even a word?) Monique, so there is that.

Ok, Ciara is gorgeous.  Also to me she doesn’t look like she has a weight issue, but I don’t know what’s in her mind.  We feel how we feel.

HOWEVER.  Her husband is a multi-million dollar NFL Super Bowl-winning quarterback.  Surely she doesn’t need Weight Watchers?  I mean, with how Russell Wilson is, I feel he must have a nutritionist on staff at all times.

Also is it a good idea to have your small children eat Weight Watchers too?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with using WW but I feel like her house has a state of the art gym as well and I just can’t relate.

I used to know a couple who trained German Shepherd and sold them as protection dogs.  They used the Schutzhund method, I believe.

I remember they explained their dogs were trained to respond to German commands so as to avoid confusion (and possibly disaster) if they were trained with English words that could (very unlikely but possibly) be heard in a regular conversation and respond.

I was only about 12 at the time but that's what I kinda/sorta remember about it.

I wonder if Brandon's parents actually own these dogs or if they're training them for others to purchase.

I once saw a documentary about something like this, so you're not wrong.

This goddamned show made me watch some bloggers in YouTube just to see if Monique really had some pull with them, and in one video a blogger was commenting on how Monique was a great mother and she didn't need the show and how she was the only storyline Candiace had, etc. And then the interviewer said "so I know you're friends with Monique..." that was just enough to convince me that Monique doesn't just maintain relationships with these people, she goes out of her way to make friendships with them. I know ALL the housewives, and reality stars for that matter, have relationships with the press, but I think Monique went out of her way to really have them on her side.

I was on a YouTube video of Richie Skye who suddenly has become a Monique supporter, he's even taken the video of Gizelle calling him a "cutie pie" out of his intro.

People, espeically a lot of black people like Monique for many reasons; first many black women have issues with light skinned and/or mixed women (many YouTube videos about that) but also because of what Monique represents:  A working class girl who married the prince and now lives in a castle, that's a dream many women still want.

  7. I detest Monique, I never could stand her or her stank face.

BUT, there's one thing I detest even more and I noticed this last night on the reunion:  It's when the host isn't neutral and obviously takes sides.  Andy took a lot of shots at Monique last night.  I think he was VERY upset at her comment about, "if I'm fired, I wanted to finish her (Candiace) off."  Which was what she also said on Watch What Happens Live.

Wrong choice of words.  She should have said, "I don't remember running after her, I was like...still blacked out."

Monqiue strikes me as someone who does what all of us sometimes do, say the first thing that's in your head.  What's troublesome is that Monique had a whole year to figure out what she wanted to say.

Chris S and Monique are truly disgusting.  They're upset about the "plot" on their child,  but condone a blogger threatening Chris B's children. Now I'm wondering if that was the blogger Candiace told to "drop dead".

I think Chris S and Monique knew that Gizelle wasn't the one who started the rumor about their child, but she did spread it around and Bravo didn't touch it, so that was why Andy kept saying, "It wasn't on the show!"

Monique just quit on IG Live. Said she’s putting her family first and they’re out.

For some reason, I don't beleive this.  She's probably holding out for more money. 💲

How many years did I read that Nene wasn't coming back, only to have her return until she didn't.

I laugh at how everytime a person quits a job they always use the "family first" comment.

I get where you are coming from, but it would be insulting to a lot of people if they changed the characterization of one of the most beloved characters in the franchise because she was cast to TV as a black woman.  That is why I appreciate that they didn't do that.  They stayed absolutely true to the character.

OK, she was actually a lot nicer.  I have to be honest, she was mean in the first few books.

I'm personally interested in seeing if the color conscious casting carries into the future seasons of the show, and I want to know about the various POC that were seen at the balls.  There were some lovely young ladies there and I want them to be fleshed out.

I think this is a very interesting dilemia.  Do you change the history of a character, or create a backstory because the character on the screen is a POC?  If that's the case, what's the point of having POC in the show at all?  Just stay true to the books and have everybody be white, so as not to make anybody uncomfortable?  I'm not sure if that's better either.

What I did notice about the show was its colorism that might have been intentional.  Though there were plenty of brown skinned debutantes and brown skinned women extras on the show, the only ones who had speaking parts were either lighter skinned or had "mixed" features  Marina, the wife of Simon's friend, the boxer, Lady D, even one of the "Mamas" who had something to say about Lady Featherstone.  Maybe I'm crazy but that's just my two cents.

  11. Here is my objective view of Monique vs. Gizelle.

I think Monique sees herself and Chris as hard workers, as people who were not born into privilage but had to work to get where they are.  Chris had to work playing football and Monique had to work to do whatever she did, include marrying Chris and settling into that life.  I think she resents Gizelle because she sees her as someone who had everything handed to her and who will continue having everything handed to her.   My mom had a friend like Gizelle, she acted like Gizelle and life just seemed to fall into place for her, while my mother, who had to work hard for things, didn't have such an easy time when she was young.

On the other hand, I think Gizelle resents Monique because she thinks a person like her should NOT have all the things she has.

To me, both of them are silly because if this year has taught me anything, it's taught me that everything material in life, including life itself can disappear.

The rumor:  I think Gizelle probably did her part for spreading that rumor about Monique and Chris' child.  I also think she might have wanted that shit to air on Bravo.  Bravo however didn't want to do that, not because Bravo has morals, but because they might have feared that if children were brought into this mess, no future "Housewives" would agree to show their children on TV, for fear they'd be dragged through the mud.

The problem with Chris was that he kept bringing up the rumor, even when Andy kept telling him that it didn't air on the show because Gizelle knew what to say on camera.  Chris should have shut up about the rumor because his mentioning of it over and over and over again, only made things worse.

This season was like the reunion, long and boring.  Don't know if I'll be back next season, or even if I'll bother with Bravo, as all of their shows bore me now.

By revealing Marina's pregnancy as Whistledown, Penelope hurt her family's reputation--and since she's part of that family, she hurt herself. She didn't just sacrifice Marina's reputation, she sacrificed her own--and her own future prospects, as far as she knew. She did it to save someone she has no reason to believe she has any future with, and who she knows doesn't love her, from an unjust marriage. Because she loved him. Doing something that costs you, for someone who doesn't even return your feelings--that's love. That's someone who has no choice.

How is it love if someone is willing to hurt their family?  It's not love when you choose to fuck someone over.

No one will ever make me believe that Marina was in the wrong.  Sorry.

  13. Spoiler

That spoiler pisses me off, because it's just like television/movies to have a Black female character only to kill her off at the end.  How fucking typical.  Shonda should be fucking ashamed of herself.

Of course Marina dies so her husband can be with a White woman...why not?  The only Black debutante screwed over by a privilaged White girl....how typical.

And that means that Penelope indirectly caused Marina's death.

Lord F scammed some pretty unsavory-seeming types to win a huge bet. He put the deed for his house and I think they were paying off on the other guy 5 to 2 odds. Which means if his house was worth 2,000 pounds (to pull a number out of my butt for what a fancy home might have been worth back then), the gamblers would have had to pay 5,000 pounds out of pocket.

So the gamblers probably put two and two together to figure out that he got the boxer to take a dive. It's not a good idea to cheat unsavory gambler types.

I thought something like that.  Like Lord F was gambling with the big boys, what we'd call "orgianized crime types" today.  I agree that they realized they'd been scammed, that he got the boxer to take a dive, which wasn't hard to figure out, since the other boxer (The Beast) kind of sucked.

But...who inherited the Featherington estate?  When Maria was walking down the stairs, going to her fate and the others were watching her go, the housekeeper slips a piece of paper to Lady F.

  15. Penelope really ruined Marina’s life.  Had she married Colin she would have at least been happy, but Pen wanted what she wanted, and didn’t get it either.  So much for girl power.

I would have loved it if Queen Charlotte found out who Lady W was.

IMO, Penelope was a bitch.  Sure her family treated her like shit, but that didn’t give her the right to shit on Marina and ruin her life, and the life of her unborn child.

Penelope was a spoiled, privileged brat who wanted what she wanted and didn’t care who she fucked over.

    Hardly a “devastated girl.”

So I definitely think there was an aspect of immature vindictiveness in choosing to publish it. A part of her wanted to hurt Marina after Marina had hurt her, but she's not a bad person, so she felt terrible about it after the fact, and especially felt horrible after Marina apologized to her and she understood just how horrible Marina's situation is.

I disagree.  Penelope was a bad person.  Apologizing didn't make it any better.  Besides, gossip kills.

How did Marina hurt Penelope?  Penelope was a dumbass who couldn't even see that Colin thought of her as a little sister and not much else.

Wait a minute. Marina is going to snow a perfectly nice guy and saddle him in a marriage when she doesn’t love him and foist a child that isn’t his off on him, and Penelope is a terrible, terrible person for blowing the whistle? What the everliving mother of fuck?

Penelope isn’t a freaking saint, but Marina totally sucked. The ONLY innocent in that situation is Colin. And good god, do I hate having to defend a regency era man in this situation.

Yes, because Penelope was petty as fuck.   And I really detest people who say, "that's not right" but offer NO solution.  At one point Marina said to Penelope something like, "and what should I do, marry a horrible man?"  What the fuck was Marina supposed to do?  Penelope had zero answers.

Marina was doing what she had to do.  It more than sucked to be a single, unwed mother in 1813, I doubt if any of us here would have liked being in Marina's shoes.

She’s incredible but she’s also a cross between a Sassy Black Woman, and Mammy and Magical Negro so it’s not groundbreaking that she’s a favourite. At least her protégée is a Black man (and the White girl he’s paired with).

So, in your opinion, that character shouldn't have been in the show?   She's a "Sassy Black Woman/Mammy/Magical Negro" all rolled up into one?

The only issue I had with that character was she didn't have any backstory.  We never knew if she'd been married, if she had children, nothing.  She was just there.
