  1. Have Jessa and Ben announced a wedding date yet? I know the pregnancy announcement for Jill and Derrick was just announced today. I really , really hope that Jessa and Ben wait a bit longer before getting pregnant...Ben is so young and doesn't appear to have a full time job at this time. IMO, they're just not ready to become parents so soon.
  2. I'm wondering if possibly Derrick and Jill were wanting to conceive their first baby ASAP because of his mother's health....I'm not saying that this was the only reason, just a thought that they wanted to be sure his mom would be here when her first grandchild was born. Derrick has one other brother, unmarried, correct? So this will be his mother and stepfather's first grandchild.
  3. I actually feel sorry for Jessa to an extent. It just seems like she was pushed into this courtship/now engagement by her parents, because they met Ben and "approved" of him and she had to enter a courtship before she got to know him really well. It seems that with Jill, she spent more time talking to Derrick, even if it was through Skype, before she entered her courtship with him. Also, whether Jessa likes it or not, not only was her entire courtship aired for the world to see, so will her engagement and wedding..maybe she's not all that crazy about being in the spotlight, But she has to comply because her selfish parents want to keep the show going. I keep wondering if one of the boys, and I'm thinking now about John David, will be able to refuse having his relationship displayed on television for the world to see when it finally happens for him. He might decide to wait until he's in his 30's and this show is finally cancelled before he decides to get married. I have also wondered if this was the case for the Bates as well...some of their kids did not move forward with courtship/engagement until their show was cancelled.
  4. We discussed this on TWOP awhile ago....the thought then was that before Fiona became guardian, the school system was not aware that there was not a parent in the home, since Monica was gone and Frank was there sometimes and not others. Also, Fiona's income was not enough at the time to even reach the poverty level of becoming guardian..and they were afraid if the school found out, they would notify the authorities who would split the kids up into foster care. It's why Steve showed up at the meeting for Carl's principal along with Fiona and told them that they were engaged. So Fiona never completed the paperwork needed to get the kids free school lunch.
  5. I don't think Michelle or Jim Bob will ever truly leave the Gothard religion. Even if they calm down in some of their extreme beliefs, it's too much of a part of their identify for either of them to give it up. MIchelle got into this with Jim Bob when she was all of 15, right? That's more than her entire adult life so I don't see much changing for these two, even in 20 years. The only thing that will be different is that they may well have a lot of adult children living in their house by then, from their mid twenties to their late 40's. That won't be easy for any of them...can you imagine even if they have say, 4 girls and 4 boys home, sharing a bedroom at that age??
  6. I know that in season 1, one set of twins was used and then another set have been used in seasons 2-4. Liam was supposed to be 1 in the first season, and by season 4 he is 3 years old. The twin actors who play him have just turned 4 this past June. Probably one reason for keeping Liam young is to avoid having to deal with lines from such a young actor (remember the twins of Seventh Heaven? They grew up not able to act and could barely manage lines until they were 7). And overall the timeline of the story is supposed to be about 2 years have gone by since it started. Of course, this doesn't explain why Lip was 16 in season 1 and is now 19 or how Debbie went from 10 to 13 either.
  7. I have to wonder if they'll have Ian hospitalized at some point, no matter how Mickey feels about keeping him home and taking care of him. I'm looking forward to more screen time from Svetlana, even though she started out as a minor character, in this season , she was awesome in every scene. It'd be interesting to see how Mickey and Ian and also Svetlana and her girlfried approach parenting the baby...I can't remember his name.
  8. It looks like Dermot Mulroney is joining Shameless for Season 5, I assume he's taking over the role that Jeffrey Dean Morgan had on the last episode as Fiona's new boss. Even though he's 50, he still looks really good and is a longtime favorite actor. I'm excited for the new season to begin even though it's 6 months away.
  9. Both of my boys, now ages 17 and 20, suffered with acne for quite a few months and after several trips to the dermatologist, they both went on Accuane. That did the trick when nothing else did...there are the monthly blood tests required, and it was a 5 month course of treatment, but I'm surprised the Duggars haven't gone this route. On topic of Jessa and Ben, does anyone think that by the time these two get around to getting married, the viewers will already be bored with them?
  10. I'm guessing that "Juddy" is a nickname for Justin. He's around 11 or 12 years ago, so while not age 7, he's at the age where he can easily be distracted with a Gameboy or Jessa's Smartphone...long enough for a private conversation and maybe a few kisses. LOL. Jim Bob and Michelle are apparently too damn lazy to even chaperone their own kids. Even in the Cheaper by the Dozen story, set in the 1920's, the father insisted on going along as a chaperone when his oldest daugther had a date at the high scool dance..and she was mortified. It was pretty funny reading about that. And she had something like 10 younger siblings, and none of them were saddled with the chaperone job.
  11. I'd be willing to bet that one of the main reasons that Jill's younger siblings want to hang out with her at her house is that she is a lot more fun to be with than Michelle is. I remember back when my older sister married when I was a teenager, her husband worked nights quite a bit and since she lived close by, I'd go over and listen to music and make cookies with her, stuff like that. It was also nice not being around parents while I was there, and yes, at 16 years old, I missed my sister a lot the first couple years she had married and moved out. They did move into a house 20 miles away about 3 years later and also had their first child later that year, but I'm glad they were close by the first couple of years of their marriage. I'm glad to see Jill's siblings going to her house to spend time with her there instead of Jill going to her parent's house to help them with chores and childcare.
  12. I have to wonder if Jana would be allowed to have her wedding off camera if she met a nice guy (through Jim Bob, of course). She seems awfully shy and to not like to have the focus be on her all that much. I can't see her going along with a huge wedding of 2000 people, it doesn't seem to be her style.
  13. Good news on Anna not being pregnant yet. Let's hope that at least one of them is doing some form of natural family planning.
  14. No, Derrick's parents were not divorced. His father died and his mother remarried. Very sorry to hear about Derrick's mom as well and hope she is able to attend the wedding. I wonder if her illness might have had a hand in the very short courthip/engagement between Jill and Derrick. I have a hard time believing the the Duggars know 2000 people on a personal level. They must be mostly the fundie families who show up at the Big Sandy homeschool conferences and maybe some of Jimbo's politcal connections..who else can they be?
  15. I think Deanna Duggar used to work in a doctor's office, though I have no idea if it was as a receptionist, office manager, billing clerk. etc. Has Amy ever had any other job besides working as a babysitter/nanny?
  16. Anna's one sister has either 8 or 9 children now? Esther? The one who lives overseas in Africa now. Can anyone confirm how old her sister is and how many children they have? I'm sure they'll have over a dozen. I guess it looks like Josh and Anna will, too. Good luck to them and let's hope that Josh can keep this well paying job he has now in Washington.
  17. Good lord...Anna really is pregnant for the fourth time? You wonder how she and Josh have any energy left after dealing with 3 little ones already. Maybe MIchelle and Jim Bob could let Joy Anna move in for awhile to give Anna a hand. But with Jil leaving, I'm sure that won't happen. If it did, Michelle would have to start actually do some real parenting. I wonder if this time that Josh and Anna can have their own delivery without the entire Duggar clan being present for the birth.
  18. The one good thing I can say about the Duggars is that they don't curse. This may not seem like a big deal , but I can see why a lot of families feel comfortable letting their young kids watching the show. So many shows, and standup comedians, seem like every other word out of their mouth is a curse word. On the other hand, the way Jim Bob and MIchelle seem to be obsessed with sex isn't good either. They make a way bigger deal out of it then they need to. It makes me wonder if maybe most, if not all, of their kids are going to be disappointed after they marry with that aspect of their relationship.
  19. Regarding the girl's dorm, I remember when they all finally moved in with the 16 kids special, both Jill and Jana were the ones who had the double beds. I'm sure that even then they had buddies visiting in the middle of the night so Michelle wouldn't be disturbed..we've seen Jackson in Jana's bed on at least a couple of occasions in the earlier seasons. Jessa, Jinger, and Joy Anna all had single beds and Johannah was still in the crib in Jim Bob and Michelle's room 8 years ago , she was around 3 months old when they made the move. For quite awhile, the 4 younger girls seemed to sleep in pack n plays, and due to lack of room, I guess Jim Bob and Michelle decided that Jana and Jill would share their beds with Josie and Jordyn. The bunk beds were bought for Hannie and Jennifer, I guess, but I'm sure that these two previously took turns sleeping with Jana and Jill too. Nevertheless, when that house was built, the Duggars even consider the possibility that some of their kids, as they grew older, might want to have their own room, or at least have the older ones share. I still wonder if John David is really living with the Duggars or if he's in his own house, that one wreck that Jim Bob made all of the kids clean up some time ago, but he just shows up for filming.
  20. I remember the Razing Ruth site. Wow. I even brought it up with a couple of people I was friendly with on TWOP, yet everyone still believed her. I again brought up that I thought her story wasn't real on the FreeJinger site (and stopped looking at long ago when those mods were up to questionable shenanigans), and still, no one batted an eye when I had mentioned that I saw that the name Razing Ruth had used on TWOP (ofduggar..certainly indicates she was familiar with the Handmaid's Tale)....referenced on one occasion that she had been a "young mom". She scammed at least $12,000 from readers of her site over the years, according to the researcher who finally managed to expose her.
  21. I think Jill and Derrick are really a great match, but I was kind of wondering, why the rush to get married? Yes, they knew each other over Skype, a few months and then courted in person a couple months, and then a 3 month engagement. Doesn't it seem a little bit sudden? I had been wondering if Jill would want to finish all of her midwife training before she goes to the alter (she has about a year left, I think..somebody correct me if I'm wrong). But she seems to be as enthusiastic to be getting married as Derrick is. Jessa, on the other hand, appears to not be in a rush at all. Though I wonder how long that courtship is going to last before the powers that be (ie. Jim Bob and Michelle) will question where it's going and what are Ben's goals in life.
  22. I like Josh and Anna's house and the way it's laid out and decorated. I really like the fact that their childlren are not all crammed into one room the way the Duggar parents have always done, no matter where they lived. I might be in the minority here, but I find Josh and Anna more likeable and also to be better parents than Michelle and Jim Bob. They're more relaxed and hands-on. It was a nice smile from Marcus, and amazing to see how big he's already gotten. Josh is smug, agreed, but I don't think he's nearly as full of himself as Jim Bob is. And Anna is by far a much better mom than probably Michelle ever was, even prior to her nervous breakdown. Anna doesn't look pregnant to me. Just maybe a little leftover belly from having 3 kids in close succession. Living far away from their built in help might slow down their goal to have as many children as the Lord gives them. Having to do it all of their own has probably been a big eye-opener for them. BTW, does anyone know if they bought that house or are they renting it? And what town is it in...I remember the realtor told them they'd have an hour commute.
  23. I'm hoping that the 4 oldest girls who wrote the book will indeed get the proceeds from it, not their parents. Hopefully they had an accountant and/or attorney handle this for them. Back to Jessa and Ben. Anyone want to take a guess on when these two will marry? I'm certain that they will now that he's been a part of their tv show. Yet I don't see the two of them dragging out this courtship for another 3 years. Will Ben go to work for Jim Bob in some fashion?
  24. Hopefully not off topic, but the question keeps coming up as to the kids 18 and over being paid their own salaries. No, they are not. It's one paycheck to the Duggar family, though when Grandma (Mary) Duggar and Amy Duggar appear, they are paid separately as well as Josh and Anna's appearances command a separate paycheck. You can see this at the bottom of the credits when they appear (thanks to Josh and Anna Duggar family, or Mary Duggar, etc). Other TLC families have confirmed this in interviews , the one paycheck per family deal. After Jill and Derrick marry, they too will be able to command their own paycheck. In the meantime, for the kids still living at home, it's up to Jim Bob as to how much money he allows them to have..I suspect it might not be very much until such time as they are ready to marry and leave home.
  25. In addition to what's already been mentioned, the Nike statement that they supposedly tell the boys if they're about to see a woman or young lady who isn't dressed "modestly". And also the fact that every female is supposed to not only have long hair, it has to be curled as well. Because Daddy and Gothard like it that way. Ugh. That long hair on Michelle isn't doing her any favors, the older she gets. Even if she has to wear it long, it would look so much better if it were worn straight instead of all those curls.
