  1. Exactly. Thank you. Shouldn't be surprised that some people say they get to to see "both sides" as if both sides were remotely equal, as if "oh look Mitch is not that bad". No. He's a predator. Just because he seems like a fun, easy-going guy at work (who makes super inappropriate "jokes" at work but whatever) doesn't mean he isn't one. Not all predators look like Harvey Weinstein.
  2. It's funny reading American viewers being upset at bad American accents and complaining about the casting for this British show when most American productions are incapable of casting proper actors who actually speak the language they are supposed to be speaking. For instance, casting Québéquois actors to portray French people or simply having Americans portray various nationalities while speaking English with an "accent" (why? just why?). I guess when the tables are turned, it's jarring, right?
  3. I don't get this. It's not some crazy mystery why men rape, torture, or kill women. They hate women. They live in a society that hates women, where women are thought to be objects, not human beings. Women are dehumanized. He was also a soldier so violence is not a far away concept for him. I'm glad we weren't given some sob story about his reasons. Men are so rarely held accountable for the violence they inflict. They usually blame their chilhood, upbringing, etc. Not here and that's good.
  4. When people « lie » about rape, they don’t lie about being raped, they lie about who did it. Usually because they want to protect a parent or a spouse. It’s insane to me how all these counselors at Marie’s place (don’t remember how it’s called) didn’t push to know what exactly had happened. They just went « oh well I guess she lied. Twice. Oh well. She is a liar then » shrug I am not a counsellor nor am I a trained detective and even I know that when women « lie » about rape, it’s not really a lie.
  5. You really don’t think sex (not gender) matters? You really think that if Marie had been interviewed by female detectives this wouldn’t have made a difference? I think it would have. Why on earth is a rape victim even questioned by two male detectives to begin with? Rape is a very sex-specific crime: rapists and male and victims are overwhelmingly female. Detective Rassmussen (not sure about the spelling) point it out in a later episode about the FBI guy: where is his rage? Men are not afraid to be raped so to them it’s not as « high-profile » as a crime. They don’t view rape as something you never recover from since, well, they don’t walk around afraid of being raped whereas for women it’s a constant threat we live with everyday. Sex absolutely matters.
  6. Every scene with Marie makes me want to reach through the screen and hug her while slapping all these people who supposedly care so much about her in the face. « omg Marie are you sure that maybe what happened to you wasn’t made up? » uh you think?? Like, none of these peopme thought «hang on, who even lies about rape? Could it be that she told the truth? » The whole thing makes me so ragey and disgusted.
  7. « Women are bad too!! » is such a laughable response. No women aren’t bad too. Women don’t commit the vast majority of crimes. Men do. That’s a fact. Nobody is disputing that women can be shitty mothers, or selfish, manipulative or cruel. But that’s a strawman argument. I mean as we see on the show, neither the police in Atlanta nor the FBI are entertaining the idea that the person who’s killing those kids is a woman. They all say « he ». Because women don’t kill or rape kids. In the small number of cases where a woman is involved in such crimes, there is always a man involved too.
  8. Yes they have been considered an aberration. Men haven't even though they're the ones who leave their kids most of the time. They're just "deadbeat dads". People shrug, sigh and dismiss it. I'm not saying mothers who abandon their children are awesome, just that I don't see it as a reason for violent behaviour. If that was a factor, a shit ton of women whose dad left would be killers. But it's not the case. So the reason is not shitty parents, it's misogyny and entitlement. Besides, the woman Wendy is dating (can't remember her name) hasn't abandoned her kid. She goes to baseball games with him IIRC. She simply divorced the father because she's a lesbian. I've never understood people who resent their parents' divorce honestly. My parents hated each other's gut for a long time and the atmosphere at home was toxic. I was relieved when they finally got a divorce. I think as a kid, you want your parents to be happy, not miserable.
  9. Serial killers (or killers in general) are almost always male. Male violence and misogyny are the problems, not the fact that a mother "abandoned" their son. All these killers loathe women. Blaming mothers is such a sexist cliché I can't believe I'm seeing it here. Shouldn't be surprised though. Women are blamed for everything, even their sons' possible murders. Also the idea that murderers/rapists were somehow abused is not true. Some were sure, but not all. So Brian was maybe born that way (sociopaths/psychopaths are mostly boys, not girls). BTW, women experience all kinds of abuse: sexual abuse, rape, beatings on top of being female in a misogynistic society and YET female serial killers are so rare they're almost not a statistic. Same with arsons, rapists, pedos, serial killers, mass shooters, etc. Almost all men. What's men's excuse? Men kill because they love it and get off on it.
