  1. The celebrities participating in the show receive a base salary per week. As they advance and make it to certain 'milestone' weeks their pay increases. (someone more familiar with the actual numbers could explain it better or look up Shawn Johnson's contract on line. I know it's public record because she was on the show as a minor). Rick is donating any money earned on the show to a veterans group tho I'm not sure which one.
  2. I wish TPTB would go back to an earlier format where half the contestants did the same Latin dance (cha cha cha) and the other half did a ballroom dance (foxtrot). That way we the audience get to see just 2 dances and really learn what they are. Then the next week group A does ballroom and group B does Latin ~ again 1 dance each style. Also if they are going to use the troupe then have them do proper demo dances and not just 'jazzed up/fancy dances'. Do beginner and intermediate dances to show what we could expect from the stars.
  3. A couple things ... 1. Do you think Nyle gets a copy of the lyrics of the song so he has an idea of what the song is about whether it's part of their 'dance story' or not? 2. I think the judges should talk TO Nyle instead of ABOUT him when giving critique/comments. They position Ramon behind the judges' table so Nyle is looking at them while they are talking. To tell Peta ' You need to make sure Nyle does this or that' instead of saying 'Nyle, you need to extend your arms/make the movement continuous' is talking as if Nyle isn't even there. To me not talking TO him is ignoring him. (Am I wrong to think this? Can someone either in the Deaf/HOH community or versed in the culture help me out here.)
  4. I enjoyed Nyle and Peta's Rumba tonight. My complaint is with the judges esp when they talk to Peta and tell her that she needs to do this or that with Nyle instead of talking to them together. IE: Peta make sure that Nyle follows through on this or that movement. Instead they should say "Nyle you need to follow through with your arms, make them a continuous motion etc". Even though he can't hear them, Ramon is there to translate (they even place Ramon behind the judges so that Nyle is looking in their direction) and they need to speak to him as he is there. By talking about him instead of to him they are ignoring him. I know that some comments were directed to him but where as other contestants were talked to, Nyle was talked about. (Hopes this makes sense) Edited because grammar is important!
  5. and on that note: Is there a list of required elements when dancing in the professional/competition circuit? I know that in figure skating (which I haven't watched in years ~ now just the Winter Games) the short program had a list of 8 required elements. If you did them all you got a higher score than if you had missed one by leaving it out or messing it up (double toe loop instead of a triple toe loop). I wish the judges would say that they wanted to see certain basic/traditional steps and/or patterns for each dance. Yes, there would be leeway for creativity but you must include X, Y and Z. Ice dancing used to do this. When it came time to the set pattern dances, you had 32 counts (or so) at the beginning and at the end of each dance to lead into and lead out of the dance and that was where you made it your own.
