  1. I read somewhere that Kevin Doyle said he read for two parts in this season and got the one he really wanted (John). He never revealed what the other one was but when watching I imagined it was Clair's boyfriend, Neil. That actor was really good too but I bet Kevin Doyle would have played him really well. But Kevin got the larger part and did an excellent job so I am sure he is very happy.
  2. "I was never alone" That seemed kind of strange to me. Ben was alone until pock marked man brought Adam. The only boy who was never alone was Adam because Ben was already there when he was kidnapped. This might be nothing of course. This show had lots of holes and weird writing. I am enjoying it anyway and I thought this week was the best one. Does anyone else think that we really need to be reminded every time of the 10 year apart scenes. To me it's obvious I think it could be left out.
  3. I am a person who would have mailed the postcard. Especially a postcard that I could read and see what was written. So now I will be more careful and that is a good thing. My theory is that the DNA was Danny's. So Danny is not John's son but maybe the result of a relationship before or just after John and Claire got married. John accepts the baby as his and they both decide to move on and live life and not reveal to anyone that Danny is not John's. It happens more than people think. I personally knew two couples who did this and the kids are grown up now and know the story but not many other people do. There is no need. Lastly I, like most of you, am enjoying this for what it is, but there are so many writing problems that it seems just an ok show. If anyone has netflix look up "Happy Valley" and " Last tango in Halifix" both of these were written by Sally Wainwright. She is a wonderful writer and I can just imagine this material in her hands. I think we would all be on the edge of our seats every Sunday instead of pointing out the plot holes and bad script. Anyway will keep watching as I am kind of hooked on it now but also disappointed. It could be so much better.
  4. I agree with you. The story of that boy who was kidnapped here in the US and escaped came to mind when I watched this. I won't say his name as I am happy he has moved on with his life and is recovering now. I'm sure lots of people remember the story. He said in an interview that he was allowed out to ride bikes with his friends, allowed to go watch movies at friends' houses and even had a parent ask him if the missing boy on the tv was him. He said no. It is very believable that Ivy would walk to the bathroom and come looking for her captor afterwards. When I think about all the changes in life in 13 years. Even if that video was taken when she was only 7 or 8 years gone the world had changed.
  5. "will they tell her" They meant Marigold and probably meant in a few years when she is older. They were wondering when and if Edith and Bertie would tell Marigold that her father was Gregson and not Bertie.

  7. I thought that Cora gifted the coat to Mrs. Hughes for two reasons. The first that she felt bad about getting angry with her and secondly that the coat had to be altered and she didn't want Mrs. Hughes to worry about the alterations and putting it back afterwards in order to return it to Cora. I thought Cora was being kind.
  8. I was looking on Ovation for this. Thank you for the information everyone. Do you know when it is starting on Amazon Prime?
  9. I Believe it was O'Brien who knocked Bates down, not Thomas, when the Duke came to visit. Also there is a daughter in the Drewe family. When Edith came to visit Marigold and has tea with the family there are two boys and a girl at the table having tea while Edith has Marigold on her knee. I have not gone back to check this episode but I am almost positive one of the children was a girl. To give Edith a little credit, although I agree with most of you that she has been very selfish about the Drewe's leaving their home, she wanted Drewe to tell his wife that Marigold was the daughter of her friend and that she, Edith had an interest in her, and that she was paying them for keeping Marigold. Instead, Drewe made the mistake of telling his wife that the child was totally alone (his friend and the mother were dead) and I did not hear him mention money to her, so his wife naturally thought that was the end of it and she would have Marigold forever. I believe if Margie had been told that Marigold was connected to Edith and her "friend" from the start she would have thought differently, especially given the times.
  10. I always thought "penis" was an odd word to call someone until I found out that the original meaning of schmuck is "penis" in yiddish. It's still odd but it makes more sense now. Terry wanted to call David a schmuck but decided on the translation instead.
  11. Thanks for posting. Wow that was a bit low even for Jeff.
  12. I missed the show and my Comcast doesn't have it On Demand. Can anyone tell me what Jeff said to Gage in the previews? I'm just curious.
  13. Yes, I remember that too. I believe it was Grayson. I watched a rerun of Cash Cab (It's a quiz show) and in popped Grayson with a male friend. I think they won some money too but did not go for the double or nothing. Sorry Cooksdelight it might have been Jennifer with the big chop. I didn't mean to contradict you.
  14. That's nice to know Pantergirl. I have kids of my own so I know the general drill but I was hoping the home birthing proccess was true to life and that all you current and former midwives would not be dissappointed. So many times when watching a process with which you are familiar you are dissappointed because TV gets it wrong. I will have to ask my mum about the enemas. I didn't have any with my kids in the 1990's. When did they stop doing them?
