  1. It just occurred to me. They're trying to do The Great Escape.
  2. Well the whole point of M.A.D. is that you only need to have them so that the other side will behave themselves, hopefully no one attacks anyone, it's the threat that's important. And you only need a couple nuclear bombs. Gilead is already suffering from the war with the remnants of the US, they don't want to open another front or risk having the east attacked.
  3. It is ridiculous that Canada even came to the table, much less allowed the Swiss to negotiate for them. All Canada has to do is throw down a copy of the North Atlantic Treaty and tell Gilead if they step a toe over the 49th parallel they'll article 5 the shit out of them and British and French nukes will come raining down like hailstones. Not to mention I'm sure there's some mutual defense clause for being part of the Commonwealth. It doesn't surprise me that American writers would not realize that Canada would have someone to back them up other than the US.
  4. I did too, so I checked the original. He was fired, walked out of the bank, and shows up the next morning after repairing the kite. During the scene where George is dismissed, he tells the bankers the 'Wooden leg named Smith' joke and puts the tuppence into Mr. Dawes Sr.'s hand before he leaves. So, while I doubt tuppence would have appreciated enough to pay off a bank loan 25 years later, it's not a mistake or a fib. It's a good thing the Dawes side of the family are scrupulously honest. I had a similar opinion to others about Mary Poppins Returns. To me it was just a derivation of the original. 'Clean up the Nursery Song' becomes 'Clean up the Children Song.' Uncle Albert becomes Cousin Topsy. Popping into the Street Painting becomes Popping into the Painted Bowl. Trip to the Bank. Chimney Sweeps are Lamplighters now. Kites are balloons. For all they claim it's not a remake because there are eight other books they really just remade the movie. Maybe that's how they got around P.L. Travers interdiction.
  5. If Fred is considered the equivalent of a secretary of state or minister then only having him meet deputy ministers and someone from the PMO could show that while Canada is willing to listen, they're definitely not giving them the curtesy due recognized officials/nations. No state visit, no PM, no governor-general, no meeting in Ottawa. They probably wanted it as under the radar as possible. I also agree with everyone who said it makes no sense that the Canadian government would have them there in the first place considering what is public knowledge about Gilead. Both Moira and Erin were Handmaid's, plus Moira's sex slavery, so it's not like the information in the letters would have come as a surprise. I was rather hoping Moira was going to shout something at Waterford to show that she knew who he was, and so Serena would find out about his extra-curriculars at Jezebel's. It's too bad the show didn't film in the summer so that the people on the street could have been wearing brightly coloured clothes instead of mute winter greys and blacks. That would have been such a contrast to Gilead.
  6. In the 'completely unexpected revivals' category: The Bletchley Circle:San Francisco is being revived by BritBox and ITV.
  7. I really REALLY hope they have a narrator for this show. The best and funniest bits of the book (IMO) were the asides and descriptions and the foot notes. Dear god the foot notes! 'The Bugger Alle This' Bible is still one of the funniest things I have ever read. The BBC radio show didn't really do it for me because they left all that out.
  8. Alias Pops! https://funko.com/blogs/news/londontoyfair17alias Though the lack of SpyDaddy! makes me sad.
  9. I was thinking something similar. But my guess was that Vyner himself is setting up Anna in revenge for her showing up the cops and getting Bates released. His friend or relative gets fired for being incompetent and then he sees her name on a case file and decides to take it over which is why it took a year for them to find this witness and why he's been doing everything he can to make her look guilty.
  10. He looks like a retiarius. (The gladiators who used a trident and net.)
  11. The interviewer was John Kapelos of 'Forever Knight' and 'Breakfast Club' fame. I think Leslie is definitely pregnant this time. And still they can't stop talking about Sloane. Ugh.
  12. There was going to be a Phil and Lem reunion and now there isn't. http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/10/15/krysten-ritter-mission-control-2/ Now we all have to just Deal With It!
  13. The A.V. Club did recaps of the first two seasons a couple of years ago. http://www.avclub.com/tv/alias/
