  1. I can't say I'm surprised by this. Warner never really had their shit together when it came to the DCEU, and given the studio changes and strategy shifts something was bound to get lost in the shuffle. I think it will still get released someplace eventually though, just not anytime soon unless they reverse their decision.
  2. That's a huge leap in logic. Attacking the films is in no way attacking the fans. If anything the real problem may be that some fans take the criticism of the films too personally. Overidentifying with the movies leads to an irrational defensiveness whenever someone speaks out against them.
  3. Apparently there was an oncologist named Dr. Singh who appeared on the show back in 2013, played by a South Asian actor. I'm not sure why exactly they decided to resurrect the character today as a white man.
  4. I haven't heard anyone attack the fans themselves, just the films.
  5. I don't blame any of those actors for their criticisms. Most of them are at least attempting to make decent points about the impact that Marvel and comic book films have had on the film industry. I also don't think that a little bit of hypocrisy is enough to invalidate their views. It's only natural to be hypocritical when dealing with this kind of subject matter, it shouldn't be held against them in my opinion. Yes, but that's not everyone. There are many people who don't go to the movies to escape the real world, even with Marvel movies. They are looking for something entirely different than an escape. There are many different forms of entertainment, some more serious, some less so.
  6. For half a second I thought Ryan was going in for the kiss with Esme. Kinda glad he didn't.
  7. Those are Mesoamerican pyramids such as in Mexico and Central America. So those scenes likely revolve around Namor's kingdom and not Wakanda.
  8. Apparently Namor and his people are not even from Atlantis in this version, but are instead from Talocan, a world from ancient Aztec mythology.
  9. Probably from some kind of sea animal or vegetation I would think.
  10. The Atlantis of this film is said to be inspired by ancient Mesoamerican civilizations, so the feathered headdress is likely a reflection of that. I don't know if those are supposed to be actual feathers or not. Maybe something made to resemble feathers.
  11. Oh really? I didn't know it was generating that much attention, especially so soon.
  12. Maybe they are building up towards She-Hulk in the Fantastic Four? I could imagine Marvel wanting to distance themselves from the previous films by dropping the whole Ben Grimm angle and trying something different.
  13. Michael B. Jordan would never go for anything like that to begin with. Yeah, it sucks to have no more T'Challa stories, but Chadwick Boseman died. The loss is going to have repercussions for his character and films. That's just how it is. I think it would be an insult to the audience to recast the character more than anything else.
  14. I think that it may be the paranormal angle that they are interested in rather than only the typical Spider-person concept. Web's psychic abilities open up a lot of doors for a story that the other characters can't. They could even include the other Spider-Women within the film if they wanted. Like a team of some kind maybe.
  15. Keanu comes off way too morose and stiff for me to see him as Batman, but if there can be a Reeves/Pattinson version on film then I guess there's room for whatever kind of interpretation Keanu would do.
  16. She was cured of her paralysis in later years, so they could still use the original version of the character and/or the Julia Carpenter version as a basis. I think that there is plenty of potential for a film like this. Madame Web may not be as big of a name as Venom, Kraven, or Morbius, but I don't think that's really a prerequisite for the Sony-verse. As long as the character itself has enough to draw from, which I think is the case here.
  17. I dunno, college-aged adults are very socially aware, especially nowadays. Also Trina's race wouldn't have to necessarily be the primary problem for Esme. It could just be a secondary motivation or a significant contributing factor instead. Racist all the same. Either way, Esme doesn't have to be consciously thinking of anything regarding race. Racism can operate on both a conscious and unconscious level. She may not even be aware of it. This could have been another possibility, sure. But it would have been another example of Esme's racism, dismissing the Black woman and focusing her efforts on the white woman. There are many different types of racist behavior and many possibilities for the writers and audience to consider.
  18. I don't think that the writing or acting would have to indicate anything. Trina is Black. That's the only evidence needed. The idea that a white woman would be harder on a Black rival should be self-explanatory to the audience in my view. Maybe Esme views Trina as a greater threat to her relationship with Spencer because she's a Black woman. That's very believable to me. Or maybe the reason she went as far as she did with Trina was because of some deep-rooted animosity towards Black people. Criminalizing a Black woman and leaving her in the hands of the justice system may be just what Trina deserves in Esme's mind. The point is that the possibilities are very real, and that it makes sense that the show would address them and have the characters consider it.
  19. Because Trina is Black. So that means that Esme will potentially choose to do worse to her than to anyone else. But what motivates Esme's evil may vary from person to person, based upon their race.
  20. Much like in real life, there doesn't have to be any on-screen or visible evidence of Trina being targeted because of race. It can occur completely unseen. Trina was a threat to Esmé and Spencer's relationship, yes, but she was also a Black woman who was a threat to Esmé and Spencer's relationship. Naturally, that's going to raise the question of how racism may have factored into Esmé's actions, and I think that it was good for the show to acknowledge that question. Not to mention being super light-skinned. (Which is not to say that light-skinned individuals of color should go ignored, but it is a glaring choice.)
  21. I'm glad to see the show at least acknowledge the idea of Trina being targeted because she is Black. It would have been irresponsible for them not to.
  22. No, I'm not discounting Greek as an ethnicity. However despite any particular kind of skin tone, Greeks are still considered Caucasian from a morphological perspective, and are also considered to be "white" by present day society. Even if that hasn't always been the case. I am not Greek, so I cannot speak to whether or not Greeks themselves commonly identify as White, or any general feelings of Greek identity. What I am saying though is that it would be a mistake to compare the situation of any sort of "White" group to a situation involving non-white minorities, such as in your example above regarding the Hindu god. Representation in Hollywood is about ensuring the recognition of peoples of color, not simply about matching specific roles to specific ethnicities.
  23. This is all a false equivalence. There is a large and critical difference between hiring for White and/or White-identified ethnicities and hiring for BIPOC groups. Aside from that, it's not like Thor and the other Asgardians were cast with Scandinavian actors either, for whatever it's worth.
  24. That might make the storyline more interesting, to have both of them descend into a drug-fueled madness together. Although I'm not sure if the characters could come back from something like that.
  25. Not being valuable to the studios doesn't take away their A-list status in my view. They don't have to be in demand to be A-list. Just because they may suffer from weak storylines from time to time or be less popular than other properties also doesn't take them off the A-list. A-listers can have bad runs or low popularity.
