  1. The Purple Bricks commercials where one spouse 'confesses' to the other that they were wrong about Purple Bricks and they could have saved thousands in commission.  So the other person is mad and the confesser looks like they are about to burst into tears.  Yeah.  Right.

I'm also on board with Mary being glad that she doesn't have to go to Chuck E Cheese or the Train Museum. Let's not forget this isn't just a museum Sheldon wanted to go to. It was a Train Museum.

I have been in museums with people not unlike Sheldon.  People who stop at every single exhibit and read every single bit of information posted at each exhibit.  It's exhausting.  Made even more so I am betting if it's a museum that you are only marginally (at best) interested in yourself!

  3. If a guy has to do "women's work" around the house he almost always dons an apron and rubber gloves.  I honestly don't know any women who habitually wear an apron, least of all when they are cleaning as opposed to cooking, and same with the rubber gloves.

I'm not quite sure why she gets SO VERY ANGRY over about a $25 difference. Like, reel it in, lady, you're gonna bust a vein.

Agreed, also not sure what's so wonderful about a 5% discount.  Wow.  So a room that costs normally $125 is now about 6 bucks cheaper?  Nice to pay less of course but that's not such a big savings that it justifies the gloating!

  5. My current pet hate as far as commercials go is the Trivago one with the smug woman guest gloating about her 5% discount (with free wifi)  until she hears how much less Trivago guy is paying for his room (with free wifi).  Aside from all else that I hate in what world are all rooms in any given hotel ever going to always be the exact same price no matter how you book?  You get a suite, or a top floor or whatever you're going to pay more.  In this commercial neither of the two ninnies at the check-in desk know what kind of room the other one got.  I don't think I'd overthink this one so much if it wasn't on constantly!

    There are transgender men.

But that still doesn't answer why it was not studied on women.  It does seem like so many medications get studied for men and women are the afterthought.  Perhaps there are valid reasons in this specific case but I too would wonder why.

At least he was another person I recognized -- there were so many commercials that I could tell featured celebrities, but I had no idea who they were.

Same here!  In the Superbowl thread someone mentioned being surprised that Maisie Williams (I think that was her name) could sing - the girl who sang the song from Frozen - anyway I had zero idea who she was but at least when I googled I had actually heard of Game of Thrones 😁 -most of the other celebrities that I didn't recognize still meant nothing to me when I looked them up!

  8. As so not a fan of football I watch the Super Bowl for the commercials (I know I am far from alone with this) and I've narrowed this years contenders for my favourite down to three: the Jeep commercial with Bill Murray; the Alexis commercial with Ellen; and the Mars water one with Bill Nye.  Most years one commercial really stands out for me.  This year I'm going to have to call it a tie.  And to be fair some of the others were pretty good too!

I loved Dave's World.  Whatever happened to DeLane Matthews?

You made me curious about her and I did a google search, it looks like she has had some serious health issues and retired from acting after she married.  She seems fairly active on Twitter and Facebook and sounds like a cool person.

    Wait.  Maisie Williams can sing!?

I didn't know who she was -  thank you google.  I had assumed she was a singer but maybe someone who did Broadway which was why I didn't recognize her.

Aww. I liked that commercial. All the Alexa-named people trying to do things Alexa does for you. Thought it was cute. Especially the "fake" news-boy.

I liked all the little snippets but gotta go with Nixon and his tapes as the best one!

  12. I checked IMDB and it looks like I pretty much stopped watching by the end of season 9. As I recall a big reason I stopped was I loathed Daphne's family.

  13. I pretty much stopped watching Frasier around the time Niles and Daphne got married.  Now I'm wondering if I'm missing out!  Would those who followed the whole series recommend those later seasons?

One had a young woman who didn't want to be pregnant and her relief at the negative test was palpable. There would be such outrage if it aired today.

Why do you think that would be the case?  I agree with you BTW but I'm just not sure why people would be outraged - other than people seem to thrive on outrage lately!  My guess would be that someone being happy a test is negative would be someone who would have an abortion if the test was positive -- which is the reason I think they never show someone being upset about a positive result.

He felt he was letting them down, and I think it was more about that than about her working.

I was no fan of BJ and his idiotic practical "jokes" but this was one aspect of his character that I thought made sense.  He felt he was letting his family down and also it hurt that they could cope without him!  My husband never went off to war but for his job he was often away for months at a time and it was always tricky walking that fine line between reassuring him that all was well at home without making him think we didn't actually need him at home!

At the time, it was normal to date multiple people in high school.   Not everyone married immediately after graduation.

I miss shows like The Brady Bunch that had the teens dating and not getting serious about anyone.  It seems like almost any show in recent memory that has teenagers on it at least one of those teens ends up marrying their high school boyfriend/girlfriend.  Are things so different post Brady Bunch that this is a realistic look at teenage romance?  Somehow I doubt it.

Fun fact:  I once spent an embarrassing amount of time online trying to figure out how to spell "braciole."  And I still want to try and make it myself. 🙂

I tried it a few years ago (without the currants I admit) and while it was good it wasn't what we were expecting.  But I guess since we were expecting something pretty damn wonderful that isn't too surprising!
