  1. I think even farther in the past. Think Shirley Partridge on the Partridge Family!
  2. The cheating with the twins may be that they help each other. It was made clear they couldn't.
  3. I'm in your boat. WTF??? Gimmicks, crazy crap and I was shocked at how bad some of them were. I feel that this season is the politically correct version.
  4. Well, I also find it difficult to focus on Hawwaa. As an older lady, I do not care for piercings on the face, and her makeup is very gaudy. I've seen photos of her without the makeup and she is a beautiful young woman. I guess I just don't understand the need to mess with your pretty looks to look "unpretty" to make some "statement" which I cannot figure out. Yes, she has her own style, I just happen not to like it. Not a sin. And I thought I looked pretty good as a teenager in the Stone Age!
  5. Don't forget the Native American, Patricia, who also designed over-the-top (not in a good way) clothes, making the finale. As soon as Hawwaa was introduced, I told my mom (who I watch PR with) that she was going all the way as an African American Muslim. I don't feel that's why someone should win, or be kept each week despite several opportunities to auf them. (Frankly I think Hawwaa should have been gone weeks ago.) Nor do I think being White, Asian, Hispanic, male, female, gay or any other "label" should win based on that label. I guess I am getting cynical in my old age. That said, Tieler did choke. I thought his was the lesser of two evils, but I knew he was doomed. Neither one was good but really, circus and collection should not be used in the same sentence. Hawwaa continues to use the same techniques (weird color blocking) every challenge, and used it a lot in her collection. While Tieler didn't live up to his potential, he did do something completely different from what he usually does. I'm with those who don't really care who wins. No one stands out to me anymore. It's sad, I thought the season started out so strong, and slowly it deteriorated. Now PR Jr. is just like all the other PRs.
  6. Hawhaw is here to stay. Seems the judges always latch onto a quirky, unskilled and strange designer despite their bad designs and flaws. (Patricia from PR comes to mind). I guess I am old, because I have a hard time looking at all her piercings. It looks like it hurts! Also it feels like she is very insincere. But that's just me. I also liked Molly's, and disliked the winning dress. I am sad to see Cartier go, but her dress was off the rack. I enjoy PR Junior so much more than the regular ones. The kids aren't snarky, backstabbing manipulators and the show is about fashion instead of personalities and fights. It's just so nice to see them get along. And I have less issues with the judging on this show. Except when they latch onto someone like Haha. I too like Kelly O., but the hair needs an overhaul. Okay, Kelly, we get it. You are avant-garde, hip and unique. Overall, watching PRJ is a pleasant hour spent.
  7. I could be you! I agree with everything you said - I too wanted Laurence to win but was so disappointed in her. Next choice, Roberi, and last would be Erin. What do you get when mix sparkly gewgaws, a pair of scissors, some glue, stiff ugly fabric and a group of first graders? Erin's finale! Even I could sew two seams, glue on gewgaws and put it on a model - this from the woman who used a sewing machine once and the needle went through my finger. Erin, the teenage valley girl, was picked already. How sad. I knew she would win, but there was a spark of hope when Zac said something negative. But Zac blows with the wind. I've seen him change his critique based on what other judges said while putting his hands all over the models during the close ups of the designs. I can see why Michael Kors, by all-time favorite, left the show. Those judges do NOT make the decision. Producers/owners of the franchise do. Why bother to show their "deliberations?" It's a joke. Sometimes they love a look that it is epitome of fugly, and they GUSH! I will keep watching and hope for something better. Hasn't happened in years, but you never know. It's like watching a train wreck - you can't look away.
  8. OMG. Tim Gunn Save = you won't get off'd even if you send down a naked model. Really, Corn's tubes were just stuck on an ugly black dress. I have never seen such a send off as Ma Jing's. He might cry, and some of his stuff was not so great, but I really liked him. Now, THIS is avante garde:
  9. It appears Erin can do no wrong. I thought that her yellow coat was butt-ugly. Yellow and oatmeal beige are hard colors to wear. The sequins she added seemed like a last-minute, "why-don't-I-just-add-these-thingys-on-cuz-that's-what-I-do?" Hideous. Looked like a 2nd grade art project. Yet like another poster said, as soon as I saw it, I knew they would win. As far as the "mauve" dress, it was Erin's idea to cut it to vagina length. Originally it was much longer. Still ugly, but longer. While I hate Dexter's nose ring, I really enjoy him. Good for him. I liked Jah-Jing's vest. It was the best thing in the collection. Not real original though. Laurence's jacket: only done a million times already. I fell asleep looking at it. Loved Nina's bumble bee comment. However, I like Laurence and think she has talent. There still may be a save for Alex. It happened before. I think Roberti should have went home. That rag he called a tuxedo top looked like he was blindfolded and completely drunk when he cut it out with dull scissors. That said, Brik is really the one who should have went, but he was on the winning team. I hate the "who should go home" question. It makes me cringe every time. Those poor designers are put on the spot and what they think should not have anything to do with the judges - who are uh, the judges and should, uh be judging. Luckily this is a nice group of designers (yay) and there were no horrible comments. Despite my snarky comments, I am enjoying this season despite the crazy judging which has become a staple of the show.
  10. I couldn't agree more. It didn't fit, it was a strange shape, the top looked badly made, the black cover-up was horrible and she was SAFE. Could it be they didn't want to auf a plus size woman making a bathing suit? I dunno. Totally stunned.
  11. OMG, those red eyes! She is a pretty woman, and I know they try to have their own offbeat style to show they are "arteests," but really?? She looks near death when she smears that reddish eye shadow all over her eyes, I find it difficult to look at her and have to avert my eyes. I want her to go home just for that reason. I wonder if she realizes how bad it looks. Like, PRA, call an ambulance, that woman's gonna die any second! Just look at her eyes!
  12. Yet again, Tim to the rescue! He urged Edmund to leave it in, reminding him of last year's winner who kept all his fringe and still won. But really, the judges told Edmund to ditch it and after all, those are the same judges that decide the winner, so please them even when they're completely wrong. What happened to the days of the flamboyant runway - about it being a show - not a bunch of ready to wear? Designers in early seasons knew how to put on a show. I thought Edmond's frilly looks were pure runway drama, instead of off the rack. I yelled when Ashley won. She has a "gift???" Really? A gift to make large girls look larger! And what was that cohesive remark? Ashley's collection was the most hodgepodge in my opinion. There were several colors and some lace and some crop tops. That doesn't make cohesion. I watched with my mom and we hated every single thing she sent down the runway. The models looked totally uncomfortable (didn't Heidi or someone say the models looked happy? Were they looking at the same models I was that could barely walk in a tight skirt or ugly shorts?) And don't get me started on grandma's elbow underwear (which goes up to their elbows) under lace. OMG. I was over Ashley and her box pleats after the second episode. She has no idea how to make a plus size person look slimmer. Isn't that the desire of most people - to look slimmer? Look at her own styling. Those lacy skirts with all the pleats/gathers just make her look bigger. So, I guess it is one standard for regular designers - nothing costumey, nothing matronly and nothing that makes the model look bigger. Plus size designers, please feel free to create matronly costumes that make your models look bigger and ridiculous. Ashley, don't let it go to your head. You'll never be successful making utter crap like that. Gee, can you tell how I really feel?
  13. OMG! I had a couple of those wool skirts from JCPenney in the early 80's. I thought that skirt was one of the ugliest things to go down the runway. Maybe it was the color, but it was so boring and old fashioned looking, and made the model look big. But then there was Helen's last look which just took the prize for the most ugly WTF look ever. Big gray cape like an ugly cocoon. She was really waving her hands around, showing off those pointed scary things. My mom kept asking how she could sew with them. I thought Dmitri would win, but only cuz his clothes look so polished and well-made in comparison with the others. I just cannot imagine having 4 days to make a collection with just a little help from another designer. I didn't care for some of his looks, but he was the least of the evils. I enjoy watching Dmitri and when I think of all the Russian Ice Skater stuff he was cranking out I realize that he has grown so much. I would have been happy with a Sanji win, but it just wasn't there. Both of them have good personalities (Sanji seems so nice and sincere, and I love Dmitri and his deadpan expressions). Helen, otoh should not have even been there IMO. In the interest of fairness, I tried to see something redeemable about her looks, but just couldn't. Her lack of color sense still astounds me. Nothing seemed to complement the color of her models' skin tones except for maybe black. And the judges made over that plain, basic black jumpsuit that had no style and a simple jacket over it. WTF? Oh well, to each his own.
  14. On her website, the 3 Lambert dresses were the only ones shown under "celebrity." http://www.designerhelen.com/#!celebrity/c1mg3 LOL! Those talking head shots after the show announces some "cool" person or company crack me up. Like when Mary Kay's best makeup artist comes to help, the TH goes all crazy like that's the best thing that could ever happen to a designer. (Thankfully the MK makeup seems a bit better this season, but the original recipe season it was horrible). I will say that this season's judging has gotten worse as episodes go by. But I also think there is so much less drama than on PR, and the one hour time frame helps as well. I can do without all the drahma. And I guess the judging will always be bad. I miss MK.
  15. The best part of the show for me is seeing what Zanna is wearing, and she didn't disappoint. She looks like a rodeo clown. And what is with her awful hair? Ever heard of conditioner, color and perhaps a flat iron? I echo all of you who said that the design-off was just manufactured drama. I think poor Issac (who has an inconceivable obsession with Helen) and the producers predicted that Helen-the-famous-red-carpet-designer would bomb, so they had this little showdown to ensure that she would move forward. Although the judges should have had no option but to eliminate Helen for her truly ordinary slip dress of a dubious color, they had this little contest to ensure she stayed. If she wins, we know the fix was always in. I never understood the love for some of the crappy stuff she has sent down the runway. I was truly sorry that I would have to see her in the finale. I would definitely prefer Michelle (what did I just say??). Here's a sample of Helen-the-famous-red-carpet-designer: http://curvilyfashion.com/2014/04/25/exclusive-interview-with-designer-helen-castillo/ These have more color and style than anything she's tried on PR, but hardly noteworthy. Can't decide if I liked Dimitri's. Seeing it walk down the runway and the weird way the fringe moved was unflattering. It was well done as usual and I didn't dislike it, but I thought all (with the exception of Helen's boring gown which was horrible) were okay, nothing great. So what do you get when you add up a one-day challenge, a break for dog clothes, and an impossible challenge ? You get the runway we got.
