  1. Totally, Silas should still have some answers so they will probably kill him off soon too. Silas and Veronica's conversation should have happened near the hot spring, as Lucas was running off to get help. Rebecca was another of those characters who appeared, created drama and mystery, disappeared conveniently and then popped up and promptly died. Was there any reason why she had to be so cryptic with Gavin in L.A. in Season 1? Who was mining to provide valuable ore to The Tower after our protagonists escaped? It does seem like a burn-off. All these amazing cliffhangers gone to waste. It looks like it's the variety show "That's My Jam" with Jimmy Fallon. Cheaper and will probably bring in more viewers, too.
  2. Just watched the second "swarm" of bad plot devices thrown against the wall. So in addition to the sudden wasp nest that apparently wasn't disturbed when debris from L.A. fell from the sky, we have The Tower with the threat of Kira and her guards, Levi and his explosives AND the wild, wild animals that conveniently escaped because "security protocols" in this building are stupid? Where the heck did Lucas go? He had a short vacation so let's throw in Riley to give Veronica someone to talk to, because she had nothing else to do. Poor Ella. Did she do anything this season that made a difference? She could have stayed home. Too bad she will be forgotten when the inevitably "happy ending" occurs. I don't understand why EVERYONE didn't just immediately run when the ground started shaking beneath them, instead of sticking around to figure out what was about to burst out. At least Heroic Scott was entertaining. Speaking of Heroes of Heroes, we had About-To-Collapse-Any-Minute Ty turning his back on meds to aim an axe perfectly to kill that sabre tooth tiger. I guess there was just one escaped animal, since Izzy managed to walk around with no problems. Speaking of which, whose keycard did she steal to get into The Tower? So was Paara still journeying to get more warriors from the South? Meanwhile, we have Levi the idiot destroying all the possibly useful modern tech that could help them survive since he means for them to stay in 10,000 BCE forever. So his mission was to kill James, wasn't it? Why not keep going with that? The Writers were laying it on thick when they revealed his daughter was also killed along with his wife.
  3. Apparently, it's the same rights, so mainly the Third Age (and any references to the earlier ages) in "The Hobbit", "The Lord of the Rings" and its appendices. There should be plenty of stories to tell within the Third Age so hopefully they will avoid the bad fan fiction that is "Rings of Power".
  4. Why oh why was there another double episode? I only watched the first one, so I disappointingly can't read any of the comments yet. I thought the people in the village hated the folks in the clearing? Don't they still have a standing beef? Or maybe I've lost track. The people in the village were fine with James attending? Why was Kira asking Ty permission to go into the village when she could have just forced her way in? What exactly did she want to do in the village anyway? If she wanted to get at James, she could have done it anytime if she had the other guards' support. I thought Levi knew something about James that we didn't. I guess not, eh. Wolf Snack having a hissy fit was annoying. Is Veronica supposed to be important or not? We get to see the date at the hot spring but they skipped showing us Silas actually telling Veronica about Aaron and instead we had to hear it all after-the-fact?
  5. How nice of The Alchemist to wait until Zhilan and Nicky took the long flight to China before striking at the monastery? I'm ready for her to be defeated. Why would Mia saving Nicky mean she had to clumsily drop that green travelling totem? The other surprises were rather out of the blue. Althea working for the NSA? So what's the catch? I suppose Gavin will no longer be the only one to have "contacts" who can get video surveillance from a foreign mine? Jin winning the election was another unlikely feat, especially after Anthony coming out against Delta. Did they have to make Anthony that sleazy in the end? Well, Jin as an elected official might bring more "contacts" and some good storylines for him. I was super disappointed about it. It was not satisfying to see Carrie and "corporate" win. I hope Mei-Li gets Harmony Dumplings back. It also made little sense. So locals can't book online, only tourists can? They got rid of take-out? Even if there was a line out the door for a week or a month, at some point, the hype will die down. I can't remember the last time some frozen supermarket product got soooooooooooo popular everyone went out of their way to travel to and eat at the originating restaurant. Plus the food truck is Sebastian's dream. I'm not sure I like the idea of Mei-Li hijacking it. Helping out, sure. Did anyone else watch "Once Upon a Time"?
  6. I thought Taamet's dying words was "Your..." and I assumed he was going to say "Your mother" but Gavin was going to be stumped figuring out who he meant. Turns out Taamet said "Kira". Add me to the list of those who had no idea who the hell Kira was before I looked her up on Google. We better find out why/how Kira knew someone from the clearing would know where the notebook was. This show mostly relies on throwing new crap at the audience so they don't bother to look back to determine if anything actually makes sense in hindsight. Ty better not be trusting Kira just because of her note on the yellow pad. Was she going to write that on the see-through tablet before he suggested a paper pad? So was Aaron the famous Dr. Moore? I just couldn't care less about any of these "mysteries" or the various characters' secret agendas (well there's James and Gavin's mother and Gavin's grandfather and Rebecca, and now there's Kira and probably a couple more before the season is done). Now the worst insomnia would be to be dwelling on this show's nonsensical plot points. Had we seen that notebook before in Season 1 when what's her name buried Aaron? Oh, not Levi again. Gavin must have been taking the really slow scenic route because Navy Seal, daughter and redshirts bumped into him heading back to the clearing.
  7. This was a fun episode from start to finish, and gave Althea some time to shine, which is always great. Pairing her with Zhilan was a pleasant surprise, though having more of the team there would have been nice. The takedown of Delta was satisfying, so I think this was well done. The stuff with Dennis' parents was entertaining, though I expected his father to already be an investor with Delta. I think the dialogue writing has definitely gotten better, with some nice conversations between various characters, starting with Nicky getting some clarity and peace with her shifu. This show has a great cast and they are able to work well with sometimes limited shared screentime and material, with room to grow, so I really hope they can squeak out another season.
  8. I forgot this show came back and I already missed two episodes. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the magic, I find the Delta stuff a bit convoluted, so this episode was a bit tougher to get into. The stuff Delta is doing is a total miscarriage of justice (there must be a ton of corrupt officials out there for their plan to work), so I have no problem with Nicky breaking into their facility and the team hacking their information (not sure about the point of Althea not being allowed to hack when Evan apparently can do anything with minimal instructions). Nicky feeling that she went too far with Bo is understandable, but her response to it was a tad irritating to watch. When the exercise class girl said Nicky always said use violence only when necessary... well, it was necessary in video footage from the ad. Mei Li going to Anthony's mom was fun to watch, but it seemed too easy.
  9. I've been watching the old animated "Dungeons & Dragons" cartoon on Youtube. It's only just mildly engaging since it's aimed for young kids, but I've been watching it while eating breakfast and getting ready for work. Anyway, it did make me wonder what it might have been like if our intrepid heroes from "Once Upon a Time" got transported to that world. There were some interesting ideas for "portals". The world also reminded me of "Once" since it is such a generic mix of fantasy, myth, sci-fi and medieval elements.
  10. Why did they show two episodes in one night. This show is only palatable in moderation. I was tempted to just watch one episode, but I didn't want to read this thread without watching both first. I am confused by the fact that I seem more into the show than I should. It's hard to fully enjoy it when the characters all seem to make the most frustrating decisions and every plot point is just designed to drag things out or to cause tiresome drama or obstacles. But at the same time, I strangely do like watching some of the interactions between the characters, and some of the one-on-one dialogue isn't too bad. Everyone in the clearing was mad at Navy Seal dad when he told them about the plan to destroy the portal machine with a virus, but no one blinked an eye at Eve barking out orders? So Navy Seal dad told everyone about what Scott did, but we never got a scene with Lucas or Ty finding out what Scott did on their behalf? I liked the Virgil guy, so I didn't want him to be a murderer. Poor Mr. Construction guy Wyatt. Nothing good comes to background extras getting a name and screentime. I'm taking notes to know what to do next time I get trapped in a cave with a giant rock on top of my leg and a bear comes to call.
  11. 2 million viewers and 0.2 among 18-49 for mid-season return of the show: https://www.tvfanatic.com/2023/02/tv-ratings-la-brea-craters-night-court-continues-to-drop/

    All Episodes Talk

Is this setting up a love triangle between Frasier's son, his roommate, and Fraser's nephew, I wonder.
  13. Well, mark me with bad flashbacks of Season 2. I can't say I enjoyed those storylines back then, but it was sort of nice to see some old faces and be reminded of old plotlines in this one. I also enjoyed seeing Jaime and Claire in a different setting for once. The differing perspectives on the conflict did show some of the complexities of the situation. It is easy to cheer on Jaime when he's the voice of reason and decency, with his speech to the Sons of Liberty. Unfortunately, extremists and self-interest on both sides ruled the day. Back on the Ridge, we're getting the soap opera classics. People lying to each other and keeping secrets. Why oh why didn't Roger talk to Bree about that psycho Malva trying to blackmail him? I actually thought Bree was being petty about Roger helping the widow and his kids. Though I did like her being innovative and using her engineering knowledge. I hope Marsali doesn't leave Fraser's Ridge. She's one of the bright lights of the cast. Of course Fergus is offscreen again.
  14. I was totally fine with taking a bit of a break to find out what happened to Young Ian. I am not looking forward to going back to the violence of war and conflict with the psycho public safety committee. They waited a long time to tell this story. It was a tad predictable, but it was still engaging enough. It showed what a solid guy he was, to save the man who ended up with his ex-wife. I wonder if she was pressured to by her parents. Was she the Chief's daughter? Young Ian's ex-friend had said the woman chose the man, so he might not have actively pursued her. Jaime became the Indian Agent mainly because it would have been way worse if the other guy had the role, so why is he quitting now? It makes no sense. I want to like Malva, since I felt badly for her and it was nice to see her learning from Claire. But I think the show is intentionally emphasizing her creepiness. Earlier in the episode, when she was applying the ether, she had this expression that made me think maybe she was eager to learn new ways to someday kill off her father. That would be totally fine with me, but you just know she will only cause problems for Claire. Knowing her father's beliefs, Claire is playing with fire as usual.
  15. Interesting idea. I think by that point, they didn't want Regina to do anything that bad. They wouldn't be able to have Henry waxing poetic about how she loved him all along if she was responsible for his father's death. Even though Regina's redemption arc was horribly executed, I think the fact that she remained relatively tame from Season 3 onwards prevented the see-sawing that happened with Rumple.
  16. The resolution was mostly good, though I think I was getting a little tired of the back and forth between Anthony and Kate by the end. Overall, I did find the season an enjoyable enough diversion, with some pacing issues (like with the dragged out triangle). I too would have preferred to see a bit more of Anthony and Kate together as a couple, but hopefully, since this is a TV series, this can still happen next season. I was glad Daphne was back and we got to see her even though the other actor playing her husband did not return. I think this season was stronger than the last not necessarily because of the main couple, but because it also developed the relationship between Anthony and his mother. The flashbacks helped to develop Anthony as a protagonist and explained his behavior, and he got to grow throughout the season. The scene with Gregory was nice. I also liked Kate's scene with her mother, and her backstory paralleled Anthony's quite well. Last season, I did like Simon's flashbacks, but his whole vow not to have children was so irrational that it was harder to identify with the character. Daphne's main trait seemed to be naivety and sexual innocence, which made the relationship uncomfortable to watch. This season, the main characters felt more grounded. Benedict seems like a nice guy but he doesn't have much presence so I wonder how he would be as a protagonist. I can't say his stories either season stood out. I was surprised Colin figured out Mr. Featherington's scheme. It seemed to come out of nowhere. Didn't he already give him the money? I expected the boxer guy to give Anthony a heads-up about what his brother was proposing to do. Last season, I didn't think Penelope as Lady Whistledown was believable at all, but I haven't minded the plot ramifications too much this season. I don't get why Eloise would suddenly realize it was Penny. I feel we rarely heard Penelope gossiping about others in her conversations with Eloise in the past. Did Penny slip because she was missing her outlet as Lady Whistledown? Eloise's printer boyfriend seems nice, but those scenes put me on edge. It must be the most conveniently empty printshop ever. Wouldn't her carriage be rather conspicuous outside? The blow-up between Penelope and Eloise was well acted, and I couldn't really side with either of them. The fallout could make for an interesting Season 3. I didn't feel the urge to watch Season 2 for quite a while, but I won't wait so long after release for Season 3.
  17. There were some entertaining moments here and there, such as Edwina realizing how obvious Anthony/Kate were, and the two families dancing for fun. But after the climatic last episode, this one seemed to be spinning its wheels, bringing back the whole Anthony/Kate love-hate stuff before devolving into premarital sex in a completely open area. I guess the reason Anthony and Kate couldn't be together was to stop people from finding out the real reason for the interrupted wedding. I'm not sure how that could be avoided unless Anthony and Kate waited for years. Would Kate be an appropriate bride for a viscount, considering her parentage? Would Anthony have been able to court her from the very beginning, if she had been amenable? I was back to feeling annoyed at Edwina for continuing to be catty with her sister. She was throwing herself at Anthony for several episodes. It would have been more entertaining if she, Lady Danbury and Violet somehow concocted a scenario to get Anthony and Kate together while salvaging everyone's reputations, rewarding and surprising those two with the oldest-child-bears-all-responsibilities syndrome. Couldn't Penelope have written something a bit less scandalous for Eloise, maybe mocking her for chasing away her suitors and never having anyone on her dance card, or something? Well, I'm curious what will happen in the season finale. I'm finding this season mostly entertaining, but I've also been able to resist watching two in one night thus far.
  18. I actually thought this episode was a reasonably good climax to the triangle which was dragged out too long. I was finding Edwina quite irritating by the last episode, so I was glad to see her wise up and make the right decision for herself in this episode. I think Anthony mostly deserved what she told him, though granted, he was going to break things off last episode until the last scene. Her words towards Kate were harsh, but that was right after she realized that Kate had feelings for Anthony, so I found that understandable. Edwina will need to acknowledge that she herself wanted Anthony, and Kate was partly going along with it because she thought that was what Edwina wanted. I agree the length of time it took for Edwina to make her decision was a bit too long. Regardless, things turned out for the best. She was the one to decide, not Anthony, so her own prospects wouldn't be ruined, and finding out the Queen's secret with regards to the King and handling that was well meant she could make her own decision without any serious repercussion. It was quite something to see Lady Danbury at a loss for words and not knowing how to proceed! The scenes with Lady Violet were fun. I was expecting the plan to uncloak Lady Whistledown to be more entertaining. Like Penelope hears all the different fake rumors and prints all of them or something. Eloise doesn't even realize she's smitten with the printer boy? The little kid Bridgerton brother looks a lot like Colin.
  19. I'm glad Anthony finally realized he should not be marrying Edwina and they acknowledged their feelings towards once another. But of course, it ended back at square one with Kate asking Anthony to marry her sister. Which was frustrating, since the rest of the episode was relatively strong. At this point, they've done so many episodes of Edwina being a clueless giddy schoolgirl concerning Anthony that I sadly wouldn't care when her feelings get hurt. I must not have been paying attention, since I didn't know only Kate knew of the deal with the grandparents, and Mary didn't. As others said, where did Mary (and Edwina) think the dowry money was coming from? I did like seeing Mary having more scenes. She was great at dinner. Why didn't Lady Danbury arrange an initial luncheon or tea with just the grandparents, Mary, Kate and Edwina? Or better yet, just Mary with her parents. If it got ugly, at least the Bridgertons wouldn't have a front row seat. I'm still lukewarm on Benedict and his storylines, though it was neat the model wanted to learn art. Eloise had a bit of chemistry with the printer guy. Does the guy know Penelope's secret? I forgot if we previously saw her interacting with him when she was doing one of her drop-offs. Lady Featherington said she didn't want to disappoint her daughter by calling off the engagement, but I suspect a part of her still believed this current predicament was preferable to having her rival's daughter becoming the new mistress of the house. I'm sad there are only 3 episodes left this season. I think by this point last season, I just found it difficult to like either protagonist, and I don't feel that way this season despite the messy relationship situation.
  20. Last episode provided strong buildup to Anthony and Kate, and the first few scenes between them in this episode were good, when Anthony asked about how she knew how to hunt, and later when Kate found out how his father died, for example. I also thought the second library scene was strange and a little stilted. The end proposal was predictable and annoying, since they've already passed the point where this triangle is bearable, much less enjoyable. If they need to keep Kate and Anthony apart, it would already be awkward enough since Anthony didn't propose to Edwina. I did like Daphne's role in this one, and I didn't really miss seeing her husband. At least the Featherington subplot is getting slightly more interesting, now knowing that the new guy is impoverished with Lady Featherington's plan backfiring. I wasn't keen on seeing Marina again, but her husband's fascination with plants was amusing. You can see the setup of Colin becoming really angry when he finds out Penelope's secret identity. I'm assuming this will happen after Colin finally sees Penelope as more than a friend.
  21. In modern showrunner mindset, just pick what you think viewers would be least likely to expect. Aka Sauron put a mithril-infused homing device on Galadriel's dagger and it sent him a message just as the mean, mean Valar rejected him causing his inner demons to manifest as a sea monster while his humanity manifested as Halbrand and that's why the sea monster was hunting Halbrand in a metaphorical battle of wills when Galadriel showed up and tipped in favor of Humanity Halbrand over Sinful Sea Serpent aka Sauron. We will soon see Halbrand acting like Gollum talking to himself as his inner battle continues to rage on! Now you know why there was the Gollum/Smeagol split because this facet of Sauron was cast into the One Ring after Galadriel rejected him for the last time (watch for this in the final 5 minutes of Season 2 right after Nori teaches Gandalf how to read).
  22. It can still be later revealed in later seasons that Halbrand's meeting with Galadriel at sea was not a true coincidence. I do think though, that when you are writing a prequel, coincidences need to be put under a microscope more than "coincidences" in the original story. If nothing coincidental happened in stories, there would often be no interesting premise to build upon. Why did Dorothy's house happen to land on the Wicked Witch of the East? Heck, why was her house the one that got lifted up by the tornado. Well, it did, and that's what made the story interesting. If Gollum lost his ring, someone else could have conceivably found it, especially if The Ring wants to be found. It just so happened that in this story, it turned out to be Bilbo. On the other hand, if you are making characters meet when they didn't in the original, it better be under believable circumstances, and it better make sense given the later canonical events and characterization.
  23. The "issues" with pacing in the books vs. this series were very different, so appreciating the books' use of its time (to describe historical background or landscapes or detailing every leg of a journey where timing of various characters' travels line up) does not necessarily equate appreciating Season 1's allocation of its time.
  24. I still think "Once" should have had a half season devoted to Christmas/winter solstice. A mash-up of the backstories of Santa Claus, Rudolph, Frosty, Scrooge/Ghosts of Christmas Past/Present/Future, the Grinch, the 3 Kings and nativity, Krampus, etc. would have been interesting, maybe all set in Narnia with the White Witch, who of course turns out to be Regina's long-lost sister.
  25. I'm just imagining an episode built around an "election" with her clones. It really is too bad there wasn't another season. Think of all the political intrigue that would arise from this. And the rivals are also from Hall of Presidents land from Disneyland. How does Regina stack up against the American presidents? Will they play dirty? Tune in to Season 8.
