  1. Frankly, I don't think that the X-Men actually work all that well as allegory for any oppression...because in the real world, the fears of people are entirely unfounded AND the oppressed have next to no power at all. But the X-Men actually have power, and they can do real damage with them. If the MCU decides to introduce them (and I really hope that if they do, they do it in another reality), I would prefer it if they do it more along the line of what Agents of Shield did, where it was actually acknowledged that there are true concerns with people suddenly developing such powers and that the fears aren't necessarily completely unfounded (without villifying Inhumans), instead of doing this really awkward allegory.

  2. Yeah, the whole Monkey-pox issue in one segment was a nice thing to have. There are sometimes news about it, but I have a hard time to keep track of it. Though I am kind of confused...isn't Monkeypox a disease which can be transferred by air, too?

  3. I really enjoy movies which connect with me on an intellectual level, those are my favorite MCU movies which manages to satisfy both my emotional and intellectual needs. But I can't remember a single movie which was purely intellectual and I still enjoyed. It is one of the oldest rule of entertainment (see Aristotles) that the emotional connection to the audience is key. And frankly, a purely intellectual movie would be something along the line of a scientific documentary or study, and that is as far removed from Art as its get. Since Art is ALL about emotions.

  4. Quote

I haven't heard anyone attack the fans themselves, just the films.

Well, when they say that Marvel movies aren't cinema or like a theme park ride and then bemoan their success, they basically suggest that the general audience isn't able to recognize what actual cinema is. So yeah, when they attack the films, they are basically looking down on those who enjoy them.

  5. It depends on my mood, but I don't think that any of those actors have a leg to stand on. Emily Blunt, as much as I like her as an actress, stared in Mary Poppins and if there is anything more exhausted than Disney remakes and sequels, I have yet to encounter it.  Jodie Foster, again an actress I think very highly off, often stars in Thrillers, which aren't exactly a high brow genre either. Scorsese is good in his one niche, but I fail to see how a movie becomes better just by being more brutal. And the idea that one movie can diminish another movie which is entirely unrelated to it, is frankly stupid.

  6. Arguably the situation within in the EU is even worse due to the ECB having hesitate to rise the interest rates for way too long...though not quite as bad as in the UK which currently deals with the doubly whammy of all the supply issues plus Brexit. But yeah, the inflation is a worldwide problem, caused by a number of different factors. This was a really good piece taking apart which factors those are and what might work (and what won't).

  7. To be fair: The motivation of the two characters are entirely different. Druig is mostly driven by the desire to protect his people, while Wanda is driven by the desire to have her own happiness.

On the other hand, Druig knows perfectly well that what he does is actually stifling the people he wants to protect, while Wanda is deep in denial over what she has done and lets everyone go once she realizes it, despite it being a huge sacrifice for her...

    Yeah, Druig is worse.

  8. Yeah, to me the reversing the snap is less unethical and more not the "everything is great again" fix-it it is portrayed as initially. It is kind of like Rhodey and his legs. Yeah, he is walking again, but that doesn't mean that he is truly fixed. If there is one thing one can complain about, it is snapping all those people back without any warning and preparation. But that is more a matter of plot convenience.

  9. To clarify something: Wanda in Multiverse of Madness mostly bothers me because she basically went through the SAME character arc which was done so beautifully in WandaVision again, but it was done so much worse. What was done in WandaVision with a lot of understanding, was done in Multiverse of Madness in flat. (Starting with the unrealistic portrayal of her kids which came off as more real before they actually were "real").  I know that a lot of so called fans wanted Wanda as a villain, but that is why you should never listen to the fans. Wanda in WandaVision was something precious, and going the "villain" route just diminished her needlessly. It would have been way more interesting to see her attempts to do better, but falling in the same "I have all the power so I know the best" trap Dr. Strange tends to fall victim too?

  10. For a franchise which wants to promote women, it has done a terrible job with them in the current phase...I am not sure what angers me the most, but Sharon is pretty much on the top, side by side with "love interest or female Steve Peggy Carter" and don't get me started on what I think about the way Wanda was handled in Multiverse of Madness....

  11. Even if they had claimed that they didn't intend to overthrow it, I think they could have just claimed that they didn't lie back then, but "changed their mind" now. But none of those semantics change what is obvious for all to see who chose to see it.
