  1. Same here. I could see her being that upset because of what Fedida said if she had just found out before the show, but for her to be that upset yesterday morning, when she'd known for at least a day, if not two (since the article came out Saturday), rang phony to me. Meghan of course also had to make it about her, too, by saying, "if you're attacking one of us, you're attacking all of us".
  2. Meghan wasn't crying onscreen, but in the first segment, when they discussed the ABC executive, and it was Meghan's turn to speak, she was breathing oddly - both exhaling loudly and taking deep breaths several times throughout her comment. It was almost how someone breathes when they're talking and sobbing at the same time. I just wondered if she'd been crying before she spoke. But re-watching the clip, it doesn't look like her eyes are red, or wet. Her answer starts at the 2:57 mark -
  3. Fyi - one of the people Sunny mentioned, Kendis Gibson, who she said was her office mate, is male. He's one of my favorite anchors on MSNBC.
  4. I was reading about the ABC executive, and in an article in Variety it says she was "integral in the recruitment and hiring" of Meghan (among others, including Sara). According to her history, it seems like Barbara Fedida would be out of a job now, except for this Huffington Post -
  5. Uh...didn't Congresswoman Demings already answer the question Meghan asked? At least Demings was able to expand on her initial answer. And why must Meghan always begin every single question by stating the obvious? Whoopie prompts Sunny to speak, and she looked like she was about to after Val Demings finished her sentence, but then Whoopie gets distracted, looks off to the side, is thoroughly confused, and says. "Sorry...Oh, (unintelligible word). What? I guess...", and Joy figures she should step in, and says "Do we have time,Whoop"? To which Whoopie says,"Yeah; do it, girl", and Sunny then thinks Whoopie said that to her, so she starts talking, and Joy's like, "Oh, well". I do like Whoopie, but not as the moderator. She's never been great at it, and taping from home doesn't do her any favors. They've gotten better than they were at the start of it, but it still sometimes feels like we're watching a local access show. I wonder when Whoopie pushed that button that made Meghan disappear. Meghan was also absent from Val Demings' last segment. Would Whoopie really have the ability to zap a feed from her home? That sounds like an ability only the director or producer would have back in the studio.
  6. Does anybody else think that Meghan was actually crying while Sunny spoke at the beginning of the show? She was breathing so heavily once she started to talk it sure sounded like she had been crying. I thought maybe I missed noticing it, so I rewound, but Sunny was onscreen by herself. It's really rich for the police union to say the officer was denied his due process.
  7. So Meghan's new favorite phrase is "case by case basis". Even though she "apologized" for suggesting it as a hot topic, I see Meghan doesn't want to let go of the whole GWTW removal from HBO Max. Luckily, I read earlier today that it'll be back on next week, so she won't have it as a topic to kick around any more. It would have been interesting to hear a concrete example of what Whoopie had in mind when she talked about people accusing her of wanting them to be pc. It took me a minute to figure out what was different about him when I first saw Spike Lee. At first I was thinking, "Is it the gray scruff?". But then I realized, "No glasses!"
  8. In this clip from the show, starting at the 2:10 mark, Meghan says she's "proud of our country for having these discussions". Then she talks about how each host has relatives who served in the military and says "they fought for this moment right now, and I think we should all continue and hear both sides, and I'm not -- I'm not --I'm totally open to these discussions right now, and quite frankly I think we should take it on a case by case basis, and I do agree".
  9. Up until their break last week she was her usual self.
  10. Maybe Meghan got a late start reading those pregnancy books. After all, it was only last week that they only had their first long break this year, and reading and posting to Twitter and Instagram takes up a lot of time, so it's only now, 6 months in, that she's found out she should avoid unnecessary stress. /s This is my take, too. Sitting on that fence is going to start hurting after a while. I wonder if this is related to her being so solicitous of Whoopie lately. She has to know that one of the big reasons Nicolle lost her spot on the show was because tptb wanted someone who clearly represented the other side of the aisle, and Nicolle wasn't at all in sync with the direction her party was moving in, so she didn't do that; she didn't provide "sparks". Could it be that Meghan's afraid they're going to start feeling that way about her as she (seemingly) starts to moderate her views? Her father asked Whoopie to look out for her, and it looks like Meghan's doing everything in her power to make sure Whoopie keeps that promise.
  11. I watch a lot of cable news, both MSNBC and CNN, and this is the first time I'm hearing of the "Battle of Seattle". Interesting - the other day when Joy started to say something while Meghan was talking, Meghan said 'yeah, I hear you Joy' and kept on talking. Today Whoopie says something while Meghan's talking, and Meghan stops cold and says "excuse me....sorry?" and waits for Whoopie to respond. I think she's clearly trying to stay on Whoopie's good side in case she has any say-so about Meghan's future. (Which might be the reason why she said Whoopie was kind for suggesting an army base be named after her father, and didn't remind Whoopie that her father was in the navy. Of course it's good manners not to correct her, but that's not Meghan's first instinct.) "The five of us are shocked to hear about this"? Whoopie's brain is confused today. Whoopie says, "Meghan, you were about to say something" and Meghan had a look on her face like 'What? Who...me?' "Case by case basis"? So there are some bases that are named after good confederate generals, then? "Murderistic"? I actually had to look it up, and it is a word (it's the name of a 1942 song, and also a slang term, that doesn't fit at all in describing Ertogan.
  12. I was looking at Abby's twitter feed, and she retweeted a post from her dad, before he tested positive, in which he said 4 members of his campaign team had tested positive. And it sounds like a nightmare waiting for your test results in Utah.
  13. And it's just HBO Max. It's not like people can't stream, rent, or buy it from another source. I'm sure Meghan's scouring Twitter tonight to see what new inconsequential outrage she can pitch for tomorrow's show.
  14. What's she going to preface her comments with after she has the baby? "I'm a mother"? If she says that, I hope the other three hosts chime that they are, too, just to highlight that she's not so unique or special.
  15. Gosh, I have to admit that my initial dislike for the movie, which I first saw when I was 13, wasn't for any noble reason. I just didn't like the character of Scarlett O'Hara at all, and didn't get the appeal of Clark Gable. And I'm still not wild about costume dramas made under the Hollywood studio system. I don't think it's a bad movie. I just wouldn't put it on my personal "one of the best" list. I agree that the things you mentioned are well done. I actually have a coffee table book called "David O. Selznick's Hollywood" that has a long section about the making of the movie, which is fascinating.
  16. I found it odd that Meghan chose to admit to and "apologize" for suggesting the GWTW topic. The only reason I could come up with for why she wanted to do this is that she didn't want to let her kiss-up to Whoopie from her earlier tweet go to waste, and knew it was unlikely Whoopie would ever see that.
  17. Aw, damn. They actually listened to Meghan's pitch. It's a waste of a segment. The movie is not being banned. I found this in Vanity Fair - But leave it to Meghan to make a mountain out of a molehill. Good for everybody else for doing their research. Oh, well. That explains it. Megyn Kelly was tweeting about it. The woman who insisted both Jesus and Santa were white.
  18. I'm so glad to see someone else feels the same way I do about it. GWTW is always held up as one of the greatest movies ever, but other than it's length, I never thought there was anything extraordinary about it. And I like old movies.
  19. But some people saying "defund the police" do want to abolish the police. It's not only people on the other side who want people to interpret it that way. Being open to interpretation is the problem with that slogan. If you're running for office and you hire Meghan to advise you, you're probably gonna lose no matter what. (Is she looking for a job?) Again with Ilhan Omar. Meghan is such a one-trick pony. Maybe on the channel she's watching they're talking about what the congresswoman said, but it's not being covered at all in the msm. So, two days in a row Meghan quotes the same remarks from both Omar amd the Minneapolis city councilwoman. I guess she felt she didn't rile up enough people yesterday and needed to try again. Or she's officially run out of talking points. Well, Whoopie really shouldn't be speaking for Rep. Omar and putting words in her mouth. And there have been a number of people on tv from "the police side" who have said things need to change. Did Meghan miss the point of Whoopie's question about the members of Congress taking a knee, or did she just choose to ignore it? It certainly seemed like she was purposely skipped over during the Colin Kaepernick discussion earlier, and she didn't seem to mind.
  20. I couldn't remember exactly what she said, so I watched it On Demand, and after Joy says, "It took a stay-at-home order to get people out on the streets" Whoopie reminds her that the protests are about a murder. Joy says, "Of course, I wasn't forgetting it. It took a confluence of everything coming together like this for people to actually come out". On tv they've mentioned the fact that the frustration people are feeling because of the stay at home orders probably did contribute to the number and the size of the protests because it gave people a legitimate and important reason to get out. It occurred to me early on that a lot of people there wouldn't have been able to take part if they weren't home because they still had a normal work schedule, or needed to get up early the next morning. Joy did start out her comment with, "52 years ago there was a tremendous outpouring and civil disobedience and the result was the end of the Viet Nam war". I don't know if you can say those protests had anything to do with ending the war, since it lasted for another 7 years. (Added - the U.S. withdrew all of it's forces two years before that.) Re-watching it, her demeanor was definitely jarring. Joy's been so frustrated these past 3 and a half years, she's probably just happy to see such large numbers of people out in the streets and taking a stand.
  21. "I am never unprepared, ever, on our show". This might just be the most delusional thing she's ever said. I think she actually believes it. She probably thinks jotting down and reading from notes proves she's even more prepared than anybody else is. If she had done her research over the weekend she would've realized that there's no consensus on what the phrase "defund the police" means. Every single time it's been discussed in the last few days on tv they start by saying that it means different things to different people. But Meghan wants to go ahead and use it as a wedge issue, and as an excuse to mention Rep. Omar, one of her favorite "scary socialists". All her words at the beginning of the hour were just for show. She couldn't even go one whole day without reverting to form.
  22. Meghan decided to go for the "angelic" look today - pale, pale pink and white. And she was smiling more than she has in weeks. Meghan says to Whoopie -"...we had a conversation before I came on the show yesterday.". At first I though Meghan thinks they did a show yesterday. But then I realized this is just her being her usual inarticulate self, and that she should have just said "we had a conversation yesterday". It actually sounded to me like Meghan might've wanted to talk to her pal Whoopie to find out how she could best strike the right tone in her comments on today's show. (If you need help doing that, well...) Meghan - "This didn't just come from nowhere. This didn't just come from a silo". Meghan - "grossly fascinated". This infuriated me so much I actually found a countdown clock online to time it - Meghan speaks for 1 minute and 36 seconds, then Joy just barely starts to say something and Meghan says, "Yeah, I hear you coming in, Joy" and keeps talking for 6 more seconds. Then, when Joy does respond to Meghan, she gets to talk for only 19 seconds before Meghan verbally barges in and talks over her for 18 seconds, basically taking up the rest of the segment. Meghan twice asks, and clearly wants to pin down Sen. Harris on whether she's in favor of defunding the police, but then when Harris asks her to clarify what she means by that term, Meghan says she doesn't know what it means. (Now that part is understandable. From what I've read over the weekend, in articles on the CNN and Time websites, "defund the police" doesn't mean the same thing to everybody, despite what Sunny said.) But to press Sen. Harris on an issue that is clearly still undefined, that Meghan herself admittedly didn't know the meaning of, shows that she still wants to divide people up as being on either the "right" or the "wrong" side of an issue, notwithstanding her opening remarks about unity, and people not retreating to their tribes. Oh, Sunny. Stop, stop, stop asking potential nominees about the vp nomination. Most of them are going to answer the question the same way they did the last time you asked it. Thank goodness they ran out of time.
  23. This horrible thought popped into my head earlier tonight - since they've already been doing the show from home anyway, even if everyone else is back in the studio by the fall, Meghan could decide to skip taking maternity leave, and continue to do the show from wherever she happens to be living. I could see her doing this, especially because the election will be right around the corner.
  24. I wonder if her co-hosts have known she's been in Virginia, all the while complaining about how she's being so inconvenienced because she lives in the city. It's too bad Meghan's a part of the show. This is the kind of thing Joy would love to roast someone with.
  25. Now this is just my interpretation, but I took "paint" to mean create or make up; "broad" to refer to the fact that she chose to broaden the scope of the area where actual destruction took place to include her neighborhood, when that wasn't true; and "distant" meaning she's doing it all from afar.
