  1. It's stupid and completely unfunny, so definitely an April Fools joke.
  2. At least I don't have to listen to any more smarmy jackassery for a while.
  3. I just caught up, watching the three finals games back to back. I know I'm predisposed to dislike the guy, but it really did seem like every single attempt at humor, or humanizing himself, or whatever you want to call it, just seemed smarmier and more tone deaf than the previous one. I suppose it's a no-win situation for him now, at least on the personality front. (One can hope it's a no-more-win situation on the Jeopardy! front as well...)
  4. Getting caught up in what feels like the thirty-seventh consecutive tournament, and at least they finally brought back people that I remember! Of course, nobody that I actually wanted to win has won any of the games so far, so ... yay.
  5. I like that "The Little Foxes" popped up in a clue without any reference to Lillian Hellman.
  6. Ah, I've missed the site. So many contestants who annoyed me, and nowhere to complain about them! ๐Ÿ˜ I don't mean to be nitpicking, but since we all presumably do enjoy trivia: the California Institute of Technology gets very fussy about their nickname, and "Caltech" is the preferred spelling. A few years ago, the city of Pasadena put up some new decorative signage, and the school was referred to as "Cal Tech" on the signs. Evidently a stink was raised, and shortly thereafter corrections were applied to all the signs
  7. ...which still only brought it from a 1/10 to a 2/10. I mean, I'm not going into these expecting anything more than fluff, but this season hasn't even been holding my interest when I try to watch. I hope that changes soon...
  8. Ugh...hate the new opening, hate that they still seem to be encouraging people to be over the top in their intros, hate that we have another batch of Losers' Week games. Other than that, though, things are going pretty well.
  9. I would have had no idea when Fahrenheit 451 was published, but I can remember Nineteen Eighty-Four's publishing date from the (probably apocryphal) story that Orwell got the title from flipping the last digits of 1948, when he was writing it.
  10. I'm guessing not, because the clue referred to "a union of these", and if the captains are even members of that union, I can't imagine it's exclusively them.
  11. I know it's always easier from the couch and all that, but "Hellman play" -> "The Little Foxes" (with the confirmation of "vulpine" in the clue) is such a trivia staple that all three of them should have been escorted from the stage right there and then.
  12. I started off with Water Lilies, but vaguely remembered that the ones at l'Orangerie had been donated directly by Monet, so there wouldn't have been an owner to make the comment, and switched to Irises in time. Turns out those had been donated as I thought, but of the many, many other versions, enough have been or are in private ownership that my reasoning was completely specious and it was just dumb luck that it got me to the right answer.
  13. Looks like the potential has become actual: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/saturday-night-live-sets-return-date-at-nbc-1235608995/
  14. I had to laugh with the Art Nouveau building in Riga last night--I was in Riga earlier this month, and was sure I'd seen that building. Checked my photos--mine is not nearly as good as theirs, but sure enough...
  15. Or your near-seizure-level buzzing, or your answering before being acknowledged, or your too-long shirt sleeves (that may have just been Friday), or your ridiculous gestures both during introductions and while answering, or ... [Can you tell I was pleased to get a new champion?] ๐Ÿ˜€
  16. For this threesome, it was an achievement just to remember that Napoleon was somehow involved.
  17. When I saw the category, I pre-called both the Before and Three Colors trilogies, trying to thread the needle on their definition of "lesser-known".
  18. O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
  19. I did my best to talk myself out of Driving Miss Daisy because I was sure it had been on Broadway, winning a Tony. (Nope, was probably the Pulitzer I was thinking of.) Nothing else fit, though, so I figured it had to be it. Briefly dallied with Amadeus, since I knew it had been a play as well, but couldn't fit that into the rest of the clue.
  20. Weโ€™re still getting Yakov Smirnoff jokes in 2023??
  21. Our long national nightmare yadda yadda... And Patti pretty much is the anti-Jake...so far, she seems like my ideal contestant. I wish her a long, happy run.
  22. Please...I was a frat bro, and we were nowhere near this bad. As much as I may whine and complain about someone, I'll never not watch, because I watch for the trivia, not the contestants (or the host, when that was a thing). But man, I'm gonna be whining and complaining a bunch until this champion's run is over.
  23. He certainly didn't come across that way on the show, at least not to me. In fact, his antics almost had me missing Yogesh...
  24. I definitely started in Italy with FJ, but hearing Ken's pronunciation made me question that, and then finally the "paired islands" part of the clue kicked in and got me to Mallorca/Minorca.
