I watched this repeat last night. I was waiting all episode for someone to ask the the kids dad WHY he left them there in that filth? His ex-wife losing her benefits was no excuse for allowing his kids to live like that........ HE JUST DIDN'T CARE!!!! or maybe the kids really didn't live with the mom and were only brought in for dramatic purposes?
