I wouldn't be surprised if once they finally found the airport, they had to wander around the concourse for days looking for their gate then realized their flight was long gone and then couldn't find their way back through security to get reticketed. Like Tom Hanks in The Terminal, they are now destined to live in the airport indefinitely.

To be fair, navigation was not their issue, which is how they managed to stay in the middle of the pack the first two legs. And they handled previous challenges fairly well. If they had just stuck with the cooking challenge the first time they went to it they probably would have survived. It was going back and forth that killed them, and clearly the stacking challenge was beyond their mental limitations. I never thought they'd last that long anyway but I'm kind of sorry to see them go this soon. They kind of cracked me up, they were easy-going, and I'm not really warming to any of the teams so far. After three episodes, that's not a great sign for the season.

Mr Rat and I have watched every season of this show and we both agreed that we would probably not have been able to do the Journey challenge.

I doubt anyone could. After 46 seasons they all run together. I can't imagine even the biggest, diehard fan of the show getting it right under those conditions (timer, stress, etc.). But then I don't believe these challenges are designed to be won, I believe they purposely designed to screw with the players and to amuse us. It's why I would never, ever volunteer to go on the "journey" because more likely than not it just means coming back minus your ability to vote. I don't know why this show is so hooked on robbing players of their votes but lately it's like it's their kink or something.

  3. I'm finding this a real slog to get through. The premise of aliens coming to our planet is intriguing enough but the video game gimmick is driving me nuts. And I still don't particularly care about any of the characters either.

Weird that Gibson is gone already. I thought that he was a new season regular. His exit story just came out of nowhere, too.

That was strange. His backstory had been that he was a boxer who accidentally killed someone in the ring. So that lead to  . . . getting addicted to benzos and amphetamines? WTF? I don't see the correlation.

I'm also not clear on why or how the charges against 51 were dropped. The current district chief seemed pretty hostile towards Boden when he made his accusation and Chief Robinson clearly isn't the one who dropped the charges so I figured maybe it was Lennox who dropped the charges, but they never said so.

Also, Chief Robinson is such a cartoon it's ridiculous. Turning up at Boden's office to threaten him some more? Give me a freaking break with this shit. She might as well have cackled "I'll get you my pretty, and you're little fire station too!" If she is this obviously evil how the hell did she ever make paramedic chief? Did she kill the last one?

  5. Once Yanu won it became obvious Jem was going to go. The editors just aren't very clever, there was entirely too much of her after that. We would have seen and heard a lot more from Ben if he were going to be voted out. I guess I've just been watching this show for too long, you can almost always tell who's going.

Jem really didn't play this very well. When Tim confronted her about moving the Beware advantage she should have turned it right around on him, because up 'til then everyone else though Tim had done it. Had she told him so, it would have made him paranoid and he might have confronted everyone about it, making himself the bigger target. She also really overplayed her hand trying to get info out of Ben, but that goes without saying.

For all his bluster, Q ran his mouth at the Journey almost as much as Bhanu did. Less to squeal about with only three people left but now they know he's tight with Tiffany and not Kenzie.

RE: ThreadGate - the Live thread is for live reaction. The Show thread is for posting about the episode once it has finished and one has gathered their overall thoughts, and for more meaningful discussion. There's very little in the way of discussion in the Live thread. It's more like watching along with friends and shouting out comments and jokes. I don't know why anyone has a problem with a separate thread for that.

I don’t know why they are sticking out to me, but I am just not getting a feel for Amber and Vinny.  Are they supposed to be dating?

Yes. It seems like there are a lot of couples this season. Rod & Leticia, Derek & Shelisa, and Michelle & Sean are the married couples; Ricky & Cesar, Yyonne & Melissa and Amber and Vinny are dating couples.

Rod & Leticia are starting to bug me. Her false eyelashes are about an inch thick, I don't know how she sees through them. When she was complaining about the stairs she said it was her age showing, but she's only 38. In fact a lot of people seemed so winded by that climb. I'm older than any of them, I walk a lot and work out, and I wouldn't have had any problem with them at all.

They're doing this Expedia One Key Cash thing again. (Well technically I guess for the first time). I still don't get what the hell it is.

Ricky and Cesar are proving to be surprisingly proficient racers. Being able to speak the language helps a lot. Also, Cesar is a food stylist according to his bio - not a chef. I know from my own experience with food stylists they don't actually cook foods, they dress them up for photo shoots. But maybe he's also a good cook.

There wasn't a big placement shakeup this leg, except for Amber and Vinny jumping from 7th to 2nd. Ricky & Cesar went from 2nd to 1st, Rod and Leticia fell from 1st to 5th, but everyone else stayed pretty much the same. Derek & Shelisa 3rd again, Juan and Shane 4th again, Yvonne and Melissa from 5th to 6th, Angie & Danny from 6th to 9th, Sunny and Bizzy from 8th to 7th, Kishori and Karishma from 9th to 8th, Michelle and Sean 10th again.

The leaders are keeping their leads and the stragglers are still stragglers.

This season was filmed while still under covid restrictions in a lot of places.  I imagine they released teams in bunches for logistical reasons which wouldn't have existed without the pandemic.

That doesn't really make any sense to me. I understand the necessity for chartered flights but once they've all arrived I see no reason teams couldn't start in the order they finished the previous leg. They're all in the same location either way.

  7. I think the Twins were further behind Sean and Michelle than they made it look. They seem like nice enough guys but they were just too dumb for this race. But I don't think Sean and Michelle are long for this race either. They are having a surprising amount of trouble with physical things considering their profession.

I have a feeling a tribal switch-up is coming, which will be interesting regarding Hunter's status if he gets switched to a different tribe and beach.

If were happening this episode I think we would have seen it by now. They've already spent the first half hour on the three established tribes. When there's a switch-up they need time to re-introduce everyone.

Yeah, but then you wouldn’t have the story of Yanu starving and losing their minds. And I still believe Probst gets off on other people’s misery.

It's a forced error of sorts. Once you deny a tribe flint there's a snowball effect where they just get weaker and weaker and with every challenge there's even less of a chance they can win.

On the upside, Tuesday's show with Amy, Shane, and Kyle was pretty funny.

Agreed. The show really lives or dies depending on the panel. I think I might have seen Amy somewhere before but not the other two. They all played really well together.

I love it when they narrate silent Tik Tok videos. I wish they'd do that more often.

What doesn't work IMO is the non-podium games. I've yet to see one that was really funny or really worked well. Ranking female singers, directions (?!) and sandwiches was dumb.

Bhanu could be faking much of his backstory and personality and reactions, including the "I'm honest" part. (But if that's the case, to what end? And why keep it up in interviews after the game is over? Is he that committed to the bit, even after getting seemingly all he could?)

He wants to be invited back. Again and again.

IIRC, in a previous season, there was a murder mystery, but it wasn't incumbent on the staff to create it. The chief stew just ordered a murder mystery kit from the provisioner. So, why creating a mystery became an issue this time speaks more of producer-created issues than actual problems.

The only other "murder mystery" I can recall was on BDSY and Chief Stew Daisy created it. I don't remember any other instance where it was pre-arranged by the provisioner. Regardless, that's something the chief stew shouldn't wait until the last minute to arrange and then hand off to someone else.

Why were the roads so clear everywhere they drove?

How are there even roads at this point? Anyone who has watched Life After People knows that without constant maintenance, paved roads would be absolutely crumbling this far into the ZA. And unpaved roads would be completely grown over and gone.

Assuming they even have any knowledge of the Commonwealth existing, would any of them be aware of that? Jadis, Rick and Michonne all left Alexandria long before those events took place, if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah but that's what I mean. Jadis keeps saying Alexandria which suggests she doesn't know about the Commonwealth which also suggests the CRM doesn't know about it, or care about it. Which is odd. Her big threat is annihilating Alexandria but she has no way of knowing whether or not Michonne knows most of them moved to the Commonwealth, assuming she herself knows such a place exists.

  14. The ending to this was pretty intriguing, but otherwise, I don't find people standing around drawing on chalkboards while speaking Chinese particularly gripping television. I don't care for the VR games either, it feels like a silly distraction.

Anyway, I loved the episode, and although Yen Wenjie took a big risk, I can understand the feelings behind her decision.

How did nobody notice the giant satellite dish turning in the direction of the sun during the transmission test?

I can believe that people who were close in college could stay close over the next decade, but their characters are not developed or interesting enough to make me care. I still can't remember all their names, including the one who looks like Angelina Jolie and seems to have only one expression (pouty).

Yeah I'm on the same page. Don't know their names, except for Yen Wenjie, which I don't know how to pronounce. And the flashbacks to young Yen Wenjie in China really annoy me. The only characters I'm sort of interested in are the ones played by Liam Cunningham and John Bradley, and that's only because I know them from Game of Thrones.

Given the hype for this series, I thought the first episode sort of dull and disappointing. I’m about halfway through the second and don’t think it improves. Did not see the previews.

Right there with you. I've read you have to stick it out until after the third episode. Not a great sign. I found it a bit of a struggle to get through the first episode. I saw the previews and it's intriguing enough but I'm already sensing I'm maybe not the audience for this.

I noticed that her tech score in the long program dropped from around 74 in the boxes prejudging to 68 after.  Far be it from Johnny or Tara to explain that, so I am thinking she got hammered in GOE and/or judge discretion on what to take off for edge calls on the lutzes.  I wish Raf could help her with her jump technique, she's got everything else down pat.

One thing Johnny and/or Tara did point out is that Isabeau really lunges into all of her jumps. It's something I hadn't really noticed until they pointed it out. And afterwards I couldn't unsee it. It's sort of ungainly. I don't know if that affected her technical score or not though.

If Jadis is also presumed dead when she doesn't come back, is anybody really going to care all that much about some file in among her things about some podunk place another dead officer came from?

The fact that nobody has mentioned the Commonwealth suggests the CRM doesn't know about it. Which is odd because I still don't have a handle on what the CRM does. They gas anyone coming in their general direction to keep themselves "secret" and destroyed one of their own outposts in Omaha, but they don't care about other big communities like the Commonwealth? So long as they keep their distance? Or do they simply not know it exists, despite massive helicopters and it being relatively nearby? Jadis keeps referencing Alexandria but most of the Alexandrians moved to the Commonwealth after they took it over.

They have to go back to Cascadia since that's where Jadis's dossier is and I think where Beale is to give Rick the echelon briefing, but I don't think they will then have to turn around and go back to Pennsylvania. I think this is where all the talk of the "summit" will come in. All the CRM leaders will be there.

OH. I think I know where this might be going. Rick and Michonne will figure out a way to take out all the evil CRM leaders in one fell swoop, probably in some massive explosion. BUT - they will have to sacrifice themselves in order to do it. Which they will do for the safety of their friends and children. I get it now.
