I, too, don't know why they've gone this nearly clean-slate route with Ainsley.  Maybe it's for narrative purposes, because they want to mostly focus at first on Malcolm's difficulty dealing with what happened without splitting plot time with Ainsley wrestling with the same thing and/or Malcolm having to focus even more on her than his internal whirlwind.  Or maybe they have some big mid-season idea of Ainsley remembering everything in some grand moment.

I kind of wonder if the dream Malcom had was foreshadowing that at some point "slasher Ainsley" will come back and threaten a member of the team?  Either way, probably safe to guess that they are building to a revelation during the season where Ainsley remembers what really happened (at least I hope so).

Malcolm in the sex dungeon with Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” blaring in the background was priceless!

This show really does know how to use its musical cues.  "Malcom dancing in a sex dungeon with a whip to "I Feel Love'"  is a scene right on brand for this show.

Dani wearing body armor to wake Malcolm up was messed up but still kinda right at the same time.

Yes, this was a solid choice given their history!

I like that the show seems to be leaning into the crazy this season so far (watched first two episodes back to back last night).  The primeire was a little more Cocoa Puffs, but I enjoyed this one as well.  In both cases, as is typical with this show, the chase ends up being a lot more interesting than the actual murderer.

I get where the show is coming from with the JT storyline.  As a police procedural of sorts, with two of the police on the show being people of color, I can see where they would feel the need to address current events.  But, given the nature of the show there is really no way for it to not feel shoehorned in.  I don't fault them for trying.

Is it just me or is Sheen looking far more unkempt/crazed this season?

Still enjoying this odd little show and glad it is back.

I could have punched Eddie when told that Elizabeth needed a doctor for the UTI -- "Is it really that bad?"

Really!  Pass a kidney stone Eddie and then you can weigh in.

I don't mind Rachel much of the time, I find her potty mouth kind of entertaining (learned some new phrases from her!) and she is obviously an amazing chef, far better than any other chef they have had on the franchise.  Her out of control drunkenness, along with her lack of concern about such behavior after the fact, is really unpleasant though.  I had full on cringe watching her, and not in a fun way.

Are we supposed to find James and Elizabeth's "romance" interesting?  Because I... zzzzzz.....

    I find Rob's weirdness intriguing.

The Pork Chop Queens make me happy.

Agreed, enjoyed watching this group a lot more than "the circle" (even though there are some standouts there - Symone!), in a world of drama their calmer energy was much more entertaining, plus there is a really nice diversity of looks/approaches to drag in this group.  I don't really mind the multiple episodes without elimination - honestly, I could probably go for a format where no one is eliminated and they are competing for points each week or something similar.  I was a little disappointed with the Lip Sync - "If You Seek Amy" seems like a gimme, and while both Denali and Rose did a fine job I was hoping for something more memorable.

Part of me liked that everyone had to LSFYL right away because sometimes we get almost to the end of the season and there are queens who haven't had to lip sync once. Now we've seen what everyone is capable of and I'd say that most of these queens are NOT lip sync assassins so I'm kind of afraid that we're going to have a season of boring LSFYLs. Feel free to prove me wrong, girls!

It did feel a little gimmicky and repetitive, but there was definitely a benefit of being able to see all the contestants a fairly equal amount of time - this is the first season where I actually remember all of the contestants after the first episode.  So if it only serves that function the "twist" did its job.  I am fairly suspicious that ultimately all the "pork chop" drama will be handwaving and everyone will stay around for now.  All in all I am cautiously optimistic about the season.

Regarding Elizabeth and Francesca - While I think Francesca is a decent chief stew and totally back her on her frustrations. She doesn't seem to give specific criticism.

I agree that Francesca, at least in what is being shown, isn't giving a lot of specific feedback now, but even when she did in earlier episodes Elizabeth didn't seem to pay much attention ("check on the guests if they need drinks", "bleach the clothes outside").  I think the bottom line is Elizabeth is not a good fit for the job - at one point she even said she is a bit messy and disorganized.  I can sympathize, I am too!  But, I would be shitty at this type of job and so is she, it really needs someone organized and officious, and also who doesn't require constant oversight and direction given the fluid nature of what goes on on these charters.

That charter guest was disgusting; I can't imagine wanting to embarrass oneself on TV like that.  I hope the Captain follows up on his bluster and kicks these people off the boat, but I kind of doubt it.

The dates at the beginning of the episodes this season really do take me out of the moment, all I can think is "t minus XXX until the world goes totally to hell".

Every damn person there had all the information they needed. Anyone who lost that leg had only themselves to blame. I wouldn't have told any team anything but there shouldn't have been anything to tell.

In general I think that sharing of information without any strategic plan is sort of silly, but I don't really have much of a problem with what Gabby did - it is not like she was sharing top secret info that teams couldn't figure out if they just read the clue (or paid some attention to what was going on with the other teams who finished)....   Although the optics weren't great, who knows maybe the two teams had the start of a little alliance already.

In general I am liking the season so far - no team really getting on my nerves yet (at least to levels teams have in the past).  Maybe it is just nice to see people out in the world doing things given current circumstances....

I absolutely agree with Luanne and Leah on this issue. The idea that all people who are currently in prison are just interested in "casing" someone's home and are just, you know, itching to burglarize you is... interesting.  The underlying cause of a lot (not all, certainly, but A LOT) of crime is poverty.  There are a lot of people in prison because they are mired in poverty and addiction issues and we'd do much better focusing on solving those problems than thinking that the criminal justice system is the right solution.

So IMO kudos to Luanne for using her platform for talking about that essential truth. I don't have much sympathy for the situation that Luanne found herself in. But I have a ton of admiration for her for using the platform she has for dispelling myths about who is in prison and why.

I can't seem to add this to my last reply, I just wanted to say yes, very well put.

  10. I generally like Leah and think she is a good addition to the cast, at least bringing a slightly different perspective to the mix (definitely more successful than RHOBH attempt to add a younger cast member: Teddi, yikes).  She is annoying when she is wasted, but that can be said about all of the cast (I think I have had my fill of watching Sonja flail around incoherently).  I can see both sides of the bipolar issue.  On one hand Leah already put it out there, so the concern of Ramona making it public rings hollow.  On the other, there was a very gossip-y feel to how Ramona approached it with her friends and Sonja, which sort of rubbed me the wrong way.

All and all, I think Crackerjacks herself, Lu, came off as the winner of the season to me.  I even liked her goofy, much-maligned sparkly hat (it reminded me of something Vanity 6 would have worn in 1982 or something).

  11. I rewatched the finale this week (bc between COVID and smoke I am stuck here, what else is there to do?), and I appreciated it just as much if not more than the first watch.  TPTB did an admirable job of pulling things together given the missing episodes, even if the plot lines did feel a little rushed (I think the biggest hole was not getting to experience another episode or two of Endicott really being a villain).  And the ending was perfect - the show does a pretty good job of taking expectations and twisting them a little bit so there is still a surprise.  Although I had guessed pretty early on that Ainsley would start to show her true colors as the real "prodigal child", would have never guessed her going full slasher.   As a horror movie fan, loved the over the top nature of that whole scene.

    Colin sums it up:

Geez Colin is a missed presence on BD.  If he turns out to be a complete asshat too all is lost...

On one hand, if it is required that the Captain be informed about RX meds, then I could see where Hannah not doing so would be an issue (although Sandy and Malia seem to be equivocating on this point).  On the other, if Malia really was concerned she should have broached with Hannah first and told Hannah she needs to talk to the Captain, rather than go straight to turning into some sort of weak-ass spy.  Hannah clearly did not think it was an issue or she wouldn't have mentioned the pills in the first place, so a heads up would have likely sufficed.  Why must every season of BD/BDM now have one or more crew members engaging in awful/cringey behavior?  This is no fun.

Overall, I don't mind Bugsy that much, her Tracy Flick-ness aside.

I am not okay with this ending. It seems only Lazlo gets to be happy. John is trapped in a loveless relationship, with in-laws that hate him, though he gets a kid. If your best friend, Lazlo doesn't like her and can read people really well, John should have taken that into consideration. Sara loses her real love, though she continues with her business. And I got teary when Marcus died.

I was pretty much anticipating they would end on a down note for Sara and John, I couldn't imagine the show having a "happily ever after" even though I would have liked to see one.  At about 8 minutes before the end time, I thought - "how are they going to throw a wrench in here after the last scene between Sara and John?" Welp...

All and I think it was a fitting ending for the season (and possibly the show?), even if the last two hours got a little repetitive with "murderer almost getting captured but then escaping and doing mayhem".

I never got a lot of sexual tension between Jack and Abbie, it was there between McCoy and Kincaid, and it was later confirmed after Kincaid’s death that the 2 had slept together, but I never sensed a lot of sexual tension between McCoy and the other ADA’s. I’m glad they never explicitly went into that stuff, it kept the show from being a soap opera, it was very well done how we only got glimpses into the chracaters lives for the most part.

Sorry, it looks like you responded before I edited!  I had a complete brain fart, I meant Claire and Jack.  I agree with you that they handled that angle really well. Maybe the one-sided nature of Cutter/Rubirosa was why it felt so icky to me.

I know WE shows all seasons because their commercials harp on the fact that they have "all 456 episodes". But it seems like the early seasons are not shown as frequently as the later seasons are.

I have been watching the repeats on WE during my virtual lunch breaks.  They are showing the latter seasons now, and I have been painfully reminded how irritating I found Mike Cutter.  It is like they took all the most annoying parts of McCoy, added a lot of whininess, and removed all of the innate charm of Sam Waterston.  And the romantic vibe they were trying to force between him and Rubirosa was just gross  (no I didn't have a problem when the did the same thing with Claire and Jack, and yes that makes be a hypocrite, but Sam Waterston has long been my older man crush so I can totally see why Claire would have went there).   Also, I can't look at Linus Roche the same after seeing Mandy

Just had to get that off my chest!

She reminds of the fans and folks who think it is ok to be racist about Maria but would fight anyone, esp in response to Michael/Alex, over perceived homophobia.

To me, at least, her handling of the Micheal/Maria/Alex triangle somehow seemed to be problematic on all fronts and no matter which character one approached it from (sort of a feat), and her defensiveness about it in social media certainly didn't help.   I had pretty much written off the show this year, but the change has definitely increased my interest in S3.

Yeah, the mention of a HR investigation doesn't sound great (they seem to intimate it relates to her interaction with cast and crew?), but of course we don't know the details and the outcome.

All and all I am hopeful this show runner change is a good thing for the show.  IMO it has a strong ensemble cast - the first season had high and low points, but the second season was pretty dismal throughout, at times feeling like mediocre fan fiction.

I think VPR is going to be retooled and focus on TomTom rather than SUR.

Hmm, I could see this working, as long as no new skeletons fall out of the closet and assuming that Max was not only fired from VPR but also from his "real" job as manager of Tom Tom.  I wonder how Katie was somehow not part of the "prank" (since when is calling the police on someone a prank?)?  I'd like to think she saw it was crossing a line (given her reaction to the other police "prank"), but, given it is Katie, maybe it would have just taken too much of her effort?
