1. Agreeing with most of the comments from other book readers. The trial was too long and far too melodramatic for my liking -didn't work for me at all. What follows Jamie's rescue is probably the single most important section, not only of the book, but the entire series. Fully buying into Clare's decision to stay with Jamie is what makes the romance so compelling (dare I say epic *g*).

As someone who's loved the book for nearly 20 years, I was worried about the series (and I still think they shouldn't have attempted to do the whole book in Series 1 and have huge concerns about the start of S2....) anyway - I've loved the cast and overall I think Moore has done a good job with it. However this was, imo, too rushed and it's huge significance for the story brushed past. We're fairly clear about Jamie's feelings for Clare, but this is the point at which we understand her feelings: her willingness to sacrifice everything she's ever known for this man. It's not an easy decision, she agonises over it, but in the end she has to follow her heart ... Follow Jamie. I don't think that element was given nearly enough emphasis or time ......
2. Mixed emotions. It was mostly a fitting ending but I'm slightly disappointed by the 'four years later', I think I'd rather have it ended once we knew Raylan was alive. It was inevitable that Winnona and Raylan couldn't make a go of it, but as a long-time shipper I am disappointed. Good to see Boyd preaching and no doubt he will continue to be "Boyd" his whole life. It was good to see a reconciliation, of sorts, between them. I'm going to miss this show so much . It hasn't always been perfect, but when it was good: S1, S2, S4 and bits of S6 in particular, it has been wonderfully dark, tense, funny and shocking. The acting has been great and I will miss the beauty of Timothy Olyphant on my screen on a regular basis. Overall - it's been a great ride and one I think it will revisit via DVD in future.
3. It was bits of conversation missed out that I missed too - especially the bit about being honest but having secrets, which has always been absolutely pivotal to their relationship. I also missed the bit where Jamie tells Clare that part of the reason for marrying her was because he wanted her - I know it's obvious, but it's also key to Clare's reaction later on the wedding night (imo). The additions were fine, if unnecessary. I'm going to trust them with the ring....... But the pearls were totally wrong. That aside I thought the pace was good and mostly it worked.
4. I'm afraid I'm going somewhat against the tide here (although I've really enjoyed reading all the thought-provoking comments). I've felt that the last 3 episodes have been taken at a very ..... leisurely pace.... but with this one added to those, it's tipped into slow.

I am a book reader, but I've enjoyed most of the additions, especially those which have fleshed-out Claire and Frank's marriage and so help us understand her genuine desire to get home in spite of the red-headed temptation she encounters. I also applaud character development (and wholly agree with some of the comments re Game of Thrones), however, much of the 'action' of the last 3 episodes has taken place around inconsequential characters and done little to move things forward. Whilst I thought Tobias Menzies did a good job, the whole thing felt contrived and if not wholly unnecessary, it took too long. If the whole of the book I'd to be dealt with in 16(?) episodes, the pace is going to have to pick up.
5. It also ran in my mind he'd talked about wife/children after the shooting but .... it just may not have been clear he was divorced. merylinkid - I agree, it's very hit and miss: a big deal has been made about how much Alicia's changed, but the evidence is lacking in many areas of her life. I think you're right in that she likes to see herself as a regular working mother - but that's not true and she needs to take a more active approach to her life.
6. I am the only one who was hoping that it would turn out that Alicia and Finn were lovers? Alicia needs to own her decisions and it would be nice to move away from the cliche of Peter, 'the power-hungry man with a cute intern' being the one to screw around while 'Saint Alicia' only has sex for love. It would have been unexpected - and fun ..... Come on Alicia - Matthew Goode looks damn hot with the less floppy hair - go for it!
