  1. I don't think people are suddenly changed toward Padma, but more that there wasn't any point to bring up those criticisms regularly. Padma was a fixture of the show that some loved, some disliked and some were lukewarm about her. Now we have a new host and that sort of prompts comparison. I never was particularly fond of Padma and didn't like the display of miles of cleavage and some other things. There was never anything egregious enough to hurt the show or to get very excited about. Now we have someone new and she brings some freshness and for me hopefulness of some good changes.
  2. Exactly what I've been thinking. We are being treated like children and I'd been under the impression that it was varied group of intelligent, civilized adults. I seen very, very few people who didn't fit that description. I seldom post and I have just been observing to see what happens next and waiting to see if there will ever be any clarity about rules, the reason for them and the object of the changes. Just why would there be the expectation of wider societal changes out of discussions of TV shows and general "chit chat"?
  3. Trixie and Matthew are pod-people now and I don't recognize either one of them. For Trixie to be so oblivious to the distress that Matthew is going through is not believable. It may be believable that he is hiding things from Trixie, but it is frustrating that he doesn't just let her know that he doesn't have a bottomless pit of money. I didn't need or want a happily-ever-after for Trixie the minute she got married but for it all to turn to crap immediately is just awful. If they need/want to write somebody out, it could be done without wrecking the character.
  4. I sincerely hope there are at least a few vintage movie fans who will get this...otherwise hoping no one takes it wrong... "Badges. Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges."
  5. I wanted to like the show because I am such a fan of Ann Cleeves, but the characters just didn't grab me. I do hope there will be more though - a mediocre Ann Cleeves is still better than most stuff.
  6. Of course, I didn't mean that racist, etc comments are not harmful....only that expressing different opinions does not cause harm....
  7. I don't remember comments anything like those, nor would I defend comments like that. I'm not going to get into a debate, so no more from me.
  8. I read it regularly and did not find it toxic. There were posters who found any criticism of Meghan to be racist. It's too easy to call posters you disagree with haters and racists.
  9. I felt like it was the beginning of the end when the Royals forum was shut down. The only thread that people were really opinionated or passionate about was the one for Harry and Meghan. People seemed free to express themselves and you could ignore anything you didn't like, you were not required to read every word. I don't understand what is so difficult about that. As long as people are not directing the posts toward others on a personal level, I don't see the harm.
  10. Exactly. There is not one specific word on what we are to do or not do. It is crazy-making to be told to change our behavior without saying anything direct such as DON'T DO THIS, instead DO THIS. If they are unable to clarify the issues, I think the site is finished, at least as we have enjoyed it. I'm going to watch this for now, but I think I am probably done with it.
  11. I absolutely don't understand what the problem is with this thread or any other for the Duggars. If they want change, they will need to explain in clear direct terms what has been written that is offensive to someone. And who has been offended or hurt any way. I feel that I cannot express myself fully on this since there are some vague new rules that I don't understand. I'm not sure what will be left standing when the threads are perfected, but I suspect there won't be anything left for me.
  12. It seems that the forums are now tasked with doing something to improve society. This is something that I think is beyond the scope of what is possible for threads about tv shows. I find it bewildering.
  13. Such beautiful cats! I love ginger cats, but I don't have one that is all ginger. My Freya is a calico with some large ginger patches. I think ginger cats tend to be sweet natured. I had one very large ginger boy that was the best natured cat I've ever had.
  14. No kidding! It's bad enough that this story has been repeated countless times, but to have two essentially same stories in one episode was just too much. That each of them learned the names of enslaved ancestors was great for the guests, but there was no fresh story to be had for viewers. It is very important history to be sure, but there is other important history and interesting stories of ancestors.
  15. I already regret making a post. I'm tempted to delete, but I'll let it stand for now. I guess I've known a different brand of man. I've known quite a few that opened up and really talked to me. And, I was not a "dog" - in the distant past, I was once young and gorgeous (no false modesty because that was long ago).
  16. This fits with what I think about how women are with each other. Women are taught to compete with each other on a deep, personal level. A lot of it is covert with surface sweetness and support. Of course what they are competing for is male attention. I've found it easier to be friends with men rather than other women. This is a huge generalization with exceptions, but trusting women has worked out badly a number of times.
  17. I was disappointed too! There is at least one previous guest that I'm pretty sure is a distant cousin of mine and it's fun to see the interconnectedness of so many people. I also had ancestors who worked in the PA coal mines. Mine were miners from England's Black Country and went to Pennsylvania before moving on (and up) to Illinois. Brendan Fraser was an excellent guest. He had obviously done some research on his own and had intelligent responses rather than the common "that's insane" exclamation.
  18. It's hard for me to imagine that I would get tired of genealogy stories, but the repetition is getting very tiresome. Those are the stories they are looking for apparently. I know there are ancestor stories with different focuses out there. I don't see anyone in the lineup for this season as exciting to me either. I will slog along with it though.
  19. I've thought for a long time that winning $25k is a chintzy amount for the time put in this competition. I'd be surprised if the after tax amount is over $15k. It's a nice bonus but not a life changing amount. I've wondered if they get any pay for the time they are in the competition, because I don't know how they can be off work unpaid for all that time.
  20. Times 1,000. Sister Monica Joan has overstayed by several seasons. She doesn't even seem to have dementia anymore. In this episode she was depressed but seemed completely lucid. We've managed the loss of main characters and yet she hangs on. Apparently, she will outlive all of them. I like Trixie's brother, but if he stays, he is bound to cause trouble somehow. I was so worried for Phyllis. Losing her would be devastating.
  21. Happy Birthday, anyway! I'm sorry you are having a gloomy day. Indulge yourself in whatever you would enjoy.
  22. It's past time for Nancy to leave and let us start to forget her. She is so obvious in her biases. Her pets can do no wrong and those she doesn't like, such as Sherrod, can do no right. She is such a poor judge, her constant complaint that she doesn't "get" a flavor. Usually in those cases, the other judges do get the flavor, so the failure is her palate. And I'm sick of her "not holiday enough"; she only likes the brightest red and green and every holiday stereotype. I don't think I'll watch any more with her as a judge. I was glad Justine didn't win and was really surprised.
