  1. A quick minute with a calculator tells me that the average age of this cast is 43.25. Maybe I've forgotten a season or two here and there, but is this not the oldest cast ever on DWTS? I don't intend this as an ageist comment, but I tune into this show to see good dancing. The three oldest cast members, all women, are 55, 65, and 75 years old. They're probably not going to be able to dance well. Previous seasons have also included pro athletes who were still competing professionally, and able to learn to dance well. These two 39 and 44 year old athletes are definitely not that. And, as much as many people complain about it, I prefer a season with at least a couple of mildly ringer-y contestants, those with some dance or rythmic movement experience...pop stars, gymnasts, ice skaters, Disney stars, etc...because I enjoy seeing *good* dancing. It looks like there's not a contestant in sight who could remotely qualify for the description "can already dance somewhat". When they told us the show was going to be re-tooled, I didn't expect them to mean even more tired and boring. I'll probably watch some of it, mostly for Tom B, but this is verrry disappointing.
  2. I haven't let go of the thought that we didn't actually see Shaun melt down in Han's office. The last scene we in the office was Han telling Shaun, "If I have to call security to remove you from my office, you will be terminated". Cut scene. Next we see Shaun in the locker room, where he absolutely does melt down. I'm left with the fact that we didn't see Shaun being removed by security, and we didn't see Han actually fire Shaun. Is it at least possible that, after Han warned Shaun, Shaun left the office willingly, wasn't terminated, and was able to control himself enough to wait until he was in the locker room to have a meltdown? I'm also thinking that there's more behind Han's treatment of Shaun than we've been shown so far. I keep going back in my mind to the first time Han was working in the O.R. with Shaun. Han turned up some music, Shaun was distracted/triggered by it. Claire told Han that Shaun was having trouble with the music. Han's response was something like, "So what? I like it. Turn it up". That was, imo, a very deliberate attempt to provoke Shaun into being unable to perform surgery. Yeah, it didn't work, but why did Han do it? (This was a perfect example of someone not making a reasonable accommodation of an employee's disability. Simply, turn off the music in the O.R. when Shawn is there). Finally, and this I don't have a clear memory of: did Glassman take permanent retirement as the president of the hospital? Or was it more like an indefinite medical leave? Is there a chance Glassman could return to his former position? That would certainly rebalance the show.
  3. Maybe I'm missing something, but I have no clue how this relates to her being a judge.
  4. I loved Jasper's dress. His design was, imo, the best example of the spirit of an unconventional materials challenge...to turn weird things into a semblance of fabric and end up with a fashionable, artistic-looking design that could actually be seen on a runway. He was robbed! Christina's zip-up hoodie was wonderful, and she should have easily been in the Top 2. The show spent so little focus on her in the workroom that I don't even know what her unconventional materials were. But that jacket flat out looked like something found in the athleisure wear section of an upscale dept store. It was the only piece on the runway that looked like actual travel wear. The blue and green diagonal patterened dress (can't remember the designer's name) should have joined Jasper and Christina in the Top 3. Oh, Seth Aaron, you are so much better than this, darling. The only explanation that satisfies me is that you wanted to go home, so you made it impossible for the judges not to send you there. This was, for me, a good episode with horrible judging.
  5. Poor, beautiful Viktor. He should have been among the top 2, and if not given the GB then he should have been put through by the "super fans" (whatever the bloody hell that even is). I hope he gets a wild card spot. Now Prince Poppycock must get through next week or I will be very sad. I don't think he's an act that the "super fans" would put through, so the only way I see him making it is as a GB. So far, my favorite thing has been the truly awful Hadwin losing again, though I wouldn't put it past Simon to bring her back with a wild card so he can try even harder to shove her down our throats. Please...why??
  6. Yes to this. She still looks great for her age, but the woman is 79-years-old.
  7. They did arrest the suspect just last week. Among the burglary victims were: Usher, Jason Derulo, Adam Lambert, Dorit Lemel, and Rebecca Hutton. Link: https://www.thedailybeast.com/los-angeles-man-posed-as-realtor-to-swipe-millions-in-luxury-goods-from-stars-homes-police
  8. Yes to this. "I'll take DWTS for one thousand, Alex." Of the guesses compiled from this thread, here (so far) are the ones that have appeared as contestants on DWTS: Antonio Brown Tommy Chong Gladys Knight Margaret Cho Donny Osmond Ricki Lake Lance Bass Joey Fatone
  9. Here are some other theories being reported about why the Unicorn is Tori Spelling: In the voice-altered voiceover, the Unicorn says her nickname is "Bird". The word for bird in Japanese is "tori". Also in her voiceover, she says that her "childhood should have been magical". That is the same experience that is the subject of her tell-all book, titled "Stori Telling".
  10. I'm all in for Prince Poppycock, Tape Face, Viktor Kee, and Shin Lim. Also interested in seeing unfamiliar acts from other countries, although if that Australian dance crew was any indicator, eww.
  11. Welcome back to my TV, Nick Cannon. I kept trying to see if you've started wearing socks again. I agree with others who've guessed that Peacock is Donny Osmond and Lion is Rumer Willis. If so, after seeing Antonio Brown unmasked, I'll be looking for other DWTS alumni to show up. I think Deer is Terry Bradshaw. Other than that, I'm just hoping Monster isn't CeeLo Green, as I've seen others guess elsewhere. I thought it was ridiculous when the judges kept guessing "A" list celebrities, like Lady Gaga. As if, LOL! I am kinda hoping that one of the future contestants will come out and blow it out the box with an amazing vocal. Somebody like maybe Adam Lambert, who could do a song without his too-easily-recognizable screamy rock notes. So far none of the professional singers has impressed me, and I'd enjoy it more if at least one or two of them did. I did have some confusion about the scope and limitations of the questions the judges are allowed to ask. Like, when one of them asked the contestant, "Are you a professional singer?", that seemed out of bounds. If that question is permitted, why wouldn't you ask every single contestant that question? I'd appreciate it if the show gave some clarification on how questions are asked, like, how many can they ask? Who gets to ask (do they take turns)? Are there any limitations on what questions can be asked? Also, can a judge make some kind of official guess, and if it's correct, is the contestant unmasked? So far, this show is good mindless entertainment without being obnoxious. I like that, so I'm in for now.
  12. That's hysterical, lol. I'm not too worried about ratings for the premier, as typically the Super Bowl lead-in show gets 25-30 million viewers. I am concerned about song selection though. I hope he chose wisely.
  13. @adhoc, you're probably aware of this already, but in case not: Dimash will be a contestant on CBS's new competition show, "World's Best". He will be on the premiere episode, debuting immediately after the Super Bowl on February 3rd. Can't wait to see him perform live on my TV!
  14. Yes to this. Through most of S1 it was, for me, the best new show in some time. Hoping for a course-correction, I persisted as S1 fell apart. But it never returned to its original premise, in fact becoming an entirely new show that I don't particularly enjoy. I let S2 episodes stack up on the DVR and FF through much of it. I almost didn't finish this S2 mid-season finale it was so ghastly. Not sure if I'll continue watching the rest of S2. Sad.
  15. I can see why you would. That was tasty, thank you! I checked out their other one, Yuve Yuve Yu, as well. I may like it even a little more. I love the sound of traditional folk instruments from East Asia, as well as the Mongolian chants and throat singing. The Kazakh singer referenced above occasionally makes use of both of those too. It's a wonderful fusion, and if my ears could smile, they would. Here's an embed of Yuve Yuve Yu:
  16. Yes, a huge thumbs up for Dimash from Kazakhstan! For me, he is the best male vocalist I have ever heard. Twenty years of formal training, a six octave range, and such incredible vocal fluidity and technique is a rare combination. I listen to his music (mostly through youtube) every day.
  17. Yes! I'd also be happy to get away from the Supercuts hair and makeup salon, and the accessory wall courtesy of Walmart.
  18. It's a very deep rabbit hole that I haven't found the bottom of yet. His wikipedia page is a revelation in terms of background, classical/operatic training, and accomplishments: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimash_Kudaibergen. If you haven't yet, check out his song "Sinful Passion", you're welcome. https://youtu.be/9L6pnx2GiUA.
  19. All this conversation you began in the last two pages has been so interesting and on-the-nose about everything that's wrong with "The Voice". It's what made me start watching singing competition shows from other countries on youtube instead. Do you think American television audiences could appreciate a format like China's "I am a Singer"? To elucidate, their youngest contestant was 22 years old. The contestant's songs can extend to up to 5 minutes per performance. The contestants arrange their own songs and can choose whatever live instrumentation and background vocals they wish, up to and including a full symphonic orchestra. The contestants choose their own outfits and their own stage set. There are no background sob story packages. There is NO call-in voting. Each week is a different in-studio audience of 500 viewers for the live performance and they are the only ones who vote. The camera editing is wonderful, with very few cuts to see audience members or the other contestants reacting backstage. And there are no judges or coaches! Imagine the huge budget "The Voice" or "American Idol" could spend on the contestants' performances without those superstar celebrity judges. Not to mention the true vocal talent that could be drawn to such a competition. If an American signing competition could end up with a contestant/performance like this one from the Chinese show...I wonder if American audiences would appreciate and support it?
  20. I would say they could even bring Andy Dick back for that. Maybe Grandmaster P and Bonner Bolton too. Hell, might as well throw in Bristol Palin and Tom DeLay. I still haven't watched this crapfest and may delete it from the DVR without watching it. I never saw the day coming when I seriously wonder if I will ever watch DWTS again, when it used to be my favorite TV show.
  21. I hear you on that. I used to always watch the episodes live. Last season I started watching them the next day on the DVR instead. This season I'm running 2-3 episodes behind on the DVR, depending on whenever I get around to it. I also used to watch all the Talking Dead episodes live. Now I hardly ever watch them at all, just delete them from the DVR after seeing how crappy TWD episodes are.
  22. Just jumping on the bandwagon for this episode to agree that it's my favorite episode of the series so far. I would be all in for a new series: "Missy and Meemaw".
  23. While another person's motivations can never be truly known, their behavior must still be consistent, whether or not we fully understand it. I think most of the BCS audience could predict that Jimmy wouldn't cite Chuck as his inspiration for pursuing law, either in his hearing before the review board or anywhere else. We could predict it because it's consistent with his character. But we certainly do often disagree, sometimes vociferously, about why Jimmy wouldn't invoke Chuck's name. That's why this scene was credible to me. It was consistent with Jimmy's character, even if it leads to disagreements about what motivated it, or whether or not he's conscious of his own motivations.
