  1. I have also escaped Federal custody, , and walked 120 miles of RR track in 8 days, mid February, in Illinois, without lighting a fire, on a mix of Tang, instant oatmeal and PB. I had no tarp, hammock or tent, and only a kid's summer sleeping bag and 4 layers of cotton clothing, plus an army field jacket, beanie, gloves, 2 pairs of socks, a pair of cheap cotton gloves. First 2 nights of rain, i had some garbage bags that (mostly) kept me dry) Then they were in tatters and I never replaced them. Didn't want to enter a town during daylight hours, you see. It rained on me 3 nights, and snowed on me (not much) 3 nights, too. That sleeping bag was so thin that I could read a magazine held outside of the bag, with me inside of the bag, but it was the only one that K mart had at the time. I would just crash on the bare, frozen ground, when my ankles gave out from walking on RR ties, with the gravel being 2" lower than the wood. I caught pneumonia and was captured, cause my little brother ratted me out. He owed me $500 and I was gonna beat him half to death if he didn't come up with it the next day. He drank himself to death before I got out. Smart move. I had also jumped bond, and lived on the run, with several fake IDs, back in the early 80's, for 20 months. Almost all of that time, I slept in vehicles, hatchbacks, station wagons, vans. . People who "think" that I only have internet experience at" living rough" are clueless.
  2. not just on alone, but with all of the "bushcraft" and survival stuff. Instead of wasting half a day building a primitive shelter (which is often not feasible cause you're sick, injuried, or lacking in needed resources) carry 1.5 lb of tarp, stakes, cordage. Instead of all the flintknapping, carry half a lb of modified Leatherman Crunch, with some saw blades to be held in the visegrip of that tool. Instead of endless bs about primitive fire-making, carry a couple of ozs of lighters, ferrorod, and wallet fresnel lenses. That's going to give you thousands of fires and you can just bed your coals if you're staying in one place. You're going to die of tooth problems long before you have to worry about not having the easy means to light a fire. You're going to have LOTS more problems, notably with staying dry and warm, and uninjured and adequately fed, 1000x sooner than you're going to not be able to start a fire with the above listed tools.. If you carry 3/4 lb of modified SOL Escape bivvy and 1/2 lb of UCO candle lantern and BEESWAX candles, and are dressed adequately for moving around out there, you'll be able to handle sleeping out there, given a fire, that is. That's a total of 3.5 lbs of gear to replace all the flintknapping, shelter building, debris-bed building, friction fire bs. That stuff is never going to save you if you've been dumb enough to go into the woods without proper gear. Sometimes you only have a few minutes in which to deal with a problem, before the cold, etc, renders you unable to help yourself. I consider a lb of trekking poles to be worth more than all the medical kit you can carry, since the biggest threat, really, is a badly sprained ankle or knee, or a broken leg. If you can't get to some wood to splint that bone, and get to water and out of the elements, you're in real trouble, especially if it's cold. The trekking poles can get you to wood, one can be cut and make a splint, while the other one is your "crutch". and it can also hold up the tarp, keeping rain off of you.
  3. I think that Sam will win and it will be the ruination of the show. I've been impressed by nobody's knowledge or abilities in any season, altho fowler and Carleigh impressed me with their toughness.
  4. I think Sam has a significant, advantage, since all the others were too ignorant to make and use the hell out of netting when they had the chance. They could have eaten 6 lbs of fish and 2 lbs of boiled and fried cambium a day for over a month and also stored 200+ lbs of fish and game, but they blew their chance.

why would you think that? Hitting anything with an arrow is SUCH a big deal that if anyone was doing it, it would be on the show. The 5 hits Dave's talked about have been the ONLY hits he's had. He's burning an extra 500+ calories per day walking around trying to score more with an arrow, guaranteed. He's going to starve out soon. He has not aquired 5000 calories with his bow, guaranteed. Making netting for a few days would let you score 5000 calories more per day, every day. ever heard of a "diva cup" ? women install it inside during their monthlies. it fills up, they remove, empty it and replace it. Nothing shows, even on naked/afraid.

"tremendous risk of bear attacks? There's about 10 per year, in all of Asia, and about that many in all of N America. you are 10,000 x more likely to be attacked by a man or dog(s) Literally. You are far more likely to be maimed/killed by a bad reaction to an insect biter or sting than any sort of snake. THE threat here is all about injuries, (usually self-caused) and starvation. There's been a couple of self-caused poisonings, Brandt drinking untreated water and Ted eating rotten fish. I"m amazed that nobody's been outed by tooth pain. That's quite commonly a problem when there's no such treatment for months on end. I literally wouldn't have taken a step on Vancouver Island without at least one walking stick. That place is horrific to move thru for more than a few yards.
  7. They'd probably quit even sooner, without the money inspiration and the idea of spending it. Most people do quit pretty easily, when agony seems inevitable and never-ending.
  8. every season since the first one. I believe that they will never let 2 real deal guys on the show, but they might allow ONE, on the last season that they intend to produce. Prior to that, they wont want to make everyone else look like a Campfire girl. If Sam wins this one merely by being fat and lazy, it's the end of the show.
  9. This stuff is a cakewalk compared to solitary confinement in prison, believe me. I dont recall ever being lonely. i can work on fast draw or throwing knives, or dryfire for hours on end, no problem at all.
  10. while in training. Do you think that they only eat ice cream? Few foods offer more than 1000 calories per lb, ready to eat. Those guys are NOT fat. Lean meat offers only 800 calories per lb and fish offer only 650 calories per lb, ready to eat. You need at least 3000 calories per day out there and can easily need over 4000 per day when it's cold, wet, windy. Why bother to preserve food when you can just eat 10 lbs per day, and have another 10 lbs of it simmering in the 5 qt skillet/w lid? The only really safe storage for food in the wild is as your own bodyfat. Dont waste time and calories preserving food if you can just eat it. They'd have to be catching 20 lbs of fish/game per day in order to need to preserve any of it and in summer, you'll still need to dip it in a salt brine, prior to smoking/drying it, or you'll still have spoilage and maybe get sick from it, like dumbass Ted did on season 4. He was worthless for the rest of the show, cause he was so weakened by that illness.
  11. britt's ignorant and irresponsible to be shooting at deer with a field tipped arrow. That would take days to kill a deer (of infection) you have to have a SHARP cutting edged broadhead sort of arrowhead for big game, so that blood loss is maximized, and you still need to hit the vitals and it's still going to run for 100m or so before laying down to bleed out. why would you have to do that? you just set up temporary camp for a couple of days, eating 10 lbs of meat per day and smoking the remaining 30 lbs of meat.
  12. the natives, everywhere in the world, are allowed to take whatever animals they need in order to survive. So just get whatever sort of permit the locals get. Ha, NONE of them are going to last a month after the first hard freeze. They are all starving, losing at least 1/2 lb per day, just like all past particiapants have done, and for the same reason. They dont know what gear to take or what to do. They are not going to have the strength to gather the wood necessary to warm those cabins adequately and they are too ignorant to make a grass stuffed dugout shelter, which needs no fire, but you have to be able to control your mind. Jesse and randy are both gone already, due to being dumb enough to waste 2 weeks of prime net-fishing time to make shelters that they starved out before they needed them. i"d be out there trying to find him and stick an arrow in his chest. That elk's meat would easily win the contest for you.
  13. no, he wasted 2 weeks of prime net-fishing season and he's starved out because he was dumb enough to do so. not true, you can snare deer very effectively, IF you know how. Braid 4 strands of the snare wire. make a loop 18" in diameter, suspend it horizontally about 6-7 ft in the air (depends upon the size of the deer) anchoring it to a stout tree that's even higher. Use 3 strands of monofilament line to suspend the loop. About a foot above the center of the loop, put a bait on a wire. In Mongolia, that would be some salted cambium. I'm not sure what would work best on Vancouver island. Whatever the deer there consider to be a rare delicacy. They stand on their hind legs to get it, come down with the snare around their neck and quickly strangle themselves.
  14. maybe, but I doubt it. They have no experience at filming themselves or foraging with such limits on gear or small areas in which they must stay. Also, the producers want this show to END within 2 months. They very carefully set it up to almost never get past 3 months. It costs them too much if it does. he is. those berries barely have any calories when they are fresh. There's nothing whatsoever to gain from already eaten berries, much less the risk of illness from feces, and all the trouble of doing it is a waste of time and calories.
  15. "go the distance?" you've got to be kidding. 56 lousy days? That's NOTHING, if you know to make a pontoon outrigger raft, and make 3000 sq ft of 2" mesh netting out of the 20x20 tarp and splits of local vegetation (like spruce roots) You only lose about 1/2 lb of bodyfat per day if you just lay around. So as long as you have more than say, 40 lbs of bodyfat, you would not have to do a thing in order to win. That would mean weighing 210 lbs, at 6 ft tall, which is not all that fat, if you've got a lot of muscle. This show is VERY carefully set up to NEVER go beyond 4 months and only rarely exceed 3 months and to normally be over with in 2 months. Once they get enough video for 12 shows, the producers want their expenses out there to end. It costs a ton for their insurance and those rescue/medical eval teams.
  16. ha, when the place is arse deep in snow and the ice is 2+ ft thick everywhere and the bugs eat you alive for 4 months of the year? I dont think so. No veggies for half of the year, etc. They were in BC for 3 seasons, and it was a horror.
  17. you dont eat the fish heads or the guts, so you use THAT stuff for bait. you've got it right there, so why not use it? Dont waste calories looking for bugs. Grasshoppers are only around for about a month over there, it's just too cold for them for the rest of the year. put the guts and heads in small bags,, made of tarp/tape, with holes in the material to let-out the scent. then the bait wont just dissolve in the water in an hour, or be nibbled off by tiny minnows. you dont need or want more than a simple tarp shelter, until at least the first hard frost. Then you make a dugout shelter, stuffed with dry grass, so that you dont need a fire. You can't be wasting calories on gathering firewood. That's going to starve them out very fast.
  18. why do such silly stuff, when you can lots mor easily make netting, which will be 10x more effective than any sort of hook and line fishing randy starved out, due to wasting 2 weeks of precious netfishing time on that stupid cabin, Anyone could see that he'd never be around for winter. You only get sy most 2 months of fishing cause rivers freeze solid. So the fish stay in the lakes until early July and get back there by late August.
  19. at least one of them took a gillnet. so you're very wrong. I think it was Nicole. You can use netting as seines or as baited net-weirs, you know. IN fact, it works better that way. Gillnets catch only a certain size of fish. they DO draw straws. no, he's not doing well. He's arrowed at most 5 lbs of game. That's at most 3 lbs of edible flesh, at 800 calories per lb. So he's not arrowed enough food for even one day under the conditions of this show. He's starving, just like everyone else is. You'll see, and soon, too. no, they aint. they are starving, just like everyone else is. Randy's tapped because of it. Dave will almost certainly be next (or will be pulled from the show, like last time).
  20. no, it isnt and he didnt, other than laying around and being fat. If he wins that way, it will be the end of the show. Nobody wants to watch that. NOBODY is catching 'ample fish". Only a bit over half of any animal or fishes live weight is edible flesh. 9 fish, of about 1/2 lb each, is the best anyone's done and you can bet that they do nothing of the kind, on average. 5 lbs of live weigh is at most 3 lbs of ready to eat fish, at 650 calories per lb (ready to eat) you need at least 3000 calories per day for the streses of this show. So you can bet that the are averaging the loss of over 1/2 lb per day, as all competitors have done, all the seasons, cause they dont know what gear to take or what to do.
  21. He survived 11 years in the Idaho wilds (1930's) with just a hunk of tarp, a wool blanket, some hooks and line, a pocket knife, a skillet, a coffeepot, flint and steel and the clothes that he stood in! He took down the phone wires between the forest fire towers and snared deer with it. He survived 2 more years, but he had a single shot .22lr rifle and 50 rds of ammo. He said that he killed a deer a month with it, 1 shot each. That doubtless meant sub-10m brain hits.
  22. stone adzes, people. Then people did it for hundreds of years with just plain old butcher knives. To hear many folks today, if you aint got 1000's of dollars tied up in knives, you can't cut a piece of string. and having those knives makes you special in every way! :-)
  23. His channel has been pretty dead, for quite a while now. https://www.youtube.com/user/Nativesurvival?pbjreload=10
  24. there is no regs keeping you from cutting up the tarp, nor about making netting. Dave M. won season 2 by making a net (supposedly) You believe incorrectly. People lie a lot about why they've failed, polo. Jose stages the overturning of his canoe, several have faked the loss of their ferrorod, when they HAD a fire going! all you have to do is bed the coals and put a tarp over it while you're asleep or out of camp. It will stay alive for 10+ hours that way. Also, once you have a fire, you can make stuff that lets you handily start other fires with any hard rock and any carbon steel tool. I dont believe any of them were scared by the animals. They'd not have gone if that were the case. Why they quit is they realize that they have no CLUE how to feed themselves out there. This show is about clearing $3000 a day, doing anything that you have to do in order to achieve that. Anyone who doesn't understand that has no chance at all. Many of the past contestants (on other forums) have claimed that they could not have used netting (for one bs reason or another) but NONE have claimed it would be against the rules. I email back and forth with several, post on forums with several of them. They just never thought of making such netting, that's all and can't admit it..
  25. it's going to be over before winter really hits. they are all just starving, same as every other contestant, cause they dont know to HOG fish, by making lots of netting out of the 20x20 tarp. Larry is right to not bother with much of a shelter. I"d have mine built in half an hour. I'd need longer to make the portable raised wooden bed, tho. Once it frosts, then it only takes 3 days to make a dugout shelter stuffed full of grass, no need of a fire in it. That's the way to go, if you have to handle the winter there, but nobody will have to do so.
