  1. Wouldn't Abby have been an actual Mary Sue ( "I'm wonderful and perfect and everyone loves me!") rather than a Jerk Sue ("I'm horrible but everyone acts like I'm wonderful and perfect and loves me!")? I know if I were an actress and had that kind of pull, I'd make sure my character was actually deserving of all that adoration.
  2. That's TV law for you. Every crime show makes it seem like "not guilty by reason of insanity"= "get out of jail free", when in truth, you can end up in a psychiatric hospital for as long as what would have been your prison term, if not LONGER--Andrea Yates will probably never leave the mental hospital she's been confined to, and neither will Russell Eugene Wilson (who shot up the Capitol in 1998), who has been deemed unfit to even stand trial because of. . .paranoid schizophrenia. I thought so too. Like it was an annoyance to him.
  3. And it was just a recycling of the episode where Samantha went undercover as a lower-income woman. Only she gets to wear frumpy, drab clothes, while Mumbles (ha!) gets to wear next to nothing. It's like when TPTB of Homicide: Life On The Street hired Michael Michelle because she was "fuckable". (That's an actual quote from one of them.
  4. That's two things I don't understand--why it isn't done in alphabetical order, and why certain people are omitted. If they died the day before the ceremony, I can understand, obviously, but not when there's been plenty of time to include them.
  5. I didn't realize either. At most, I figured there was an attraction. There was a webpage devoted to analyzing every little moment between and only then did I get the Rewatch Bonus of realizing they were sleeping together.
  6. I liked Green Book too. I don't get all the backlash either. That said, I'm not sure how I feel about it winning Best Picture. I'm not angry, but I really wanted Spike Lee to win it and Best Director. It's bizarre. For years, Best Director and Best Picture went together and only rarely were they split. Nowadays, the opposite is true.
  7. They made the same mistake with Lucy and it backfired with her too.
  8. Heh. That reminds me of that montage Jon Stewart did the year it was nominated of all the supposedly homoerotic moments in Westerns. It's freaky how eerily preminiscent that trailer is.
  9. Am I the only one who thought Brokeback Mountain was incredibly overrated and didn't deserve to win even if Crash didn't either?
  10. I thought so too. I was very surprised when the nominations came out--either all three were co-leads, or Colman was supporting while Stone and Weisz were leads.
  11. Whoa. It looks like Glenn Close will continue to be an Academy Awards Susan Lucci. Though most predictors did name Colman as a contender, it's still shocking.
  12. I agree that she’s a better actress than people give her credit for. Her issue is the roles she tended to pick. For every Desperately Seeking Susan, A League Of Their Own, and Evita, there was...every other movie she made She seems to do best when she plays versions of herself. Except for "Body Of Evidence".
  13. Obviously. But for the montage, there's no reason they can't list them as such.
  14. The "In Memoriam" bit never fails to make me sad. No matter how many deaths I was aware of, it's still startling to see them up there. Any idea why they don't list these people in alphabetical order? It's very hard to follow along with the random way they do it.
  15. Congratulations Regina King and Mahershala Ali! I'm glad to see that Oscars are making an effort to spread the goods around.
  16. The merry-go-round keeps spinning: https://thegrio.com/2019/02/24/jussie-smollett-new-evidence/
  17. The dreaded Good Girls Avoid Abortion trope. No matter how unfavorable the circumstances of the pregnancy, no matter how much the woman clearly doesn't want the baby, she will keep it, complaining all the way. Same here. Martin was gorgeous, had no issues, was single, and adored her--she outright told him "You make me really happy"--much better for her than Jack. But even she and Jack would have been better than her baby daddy. At least she KNEW Jack, as opposed to the five minutes she'd known the other guy. I liked them, but there was this uncomfortable air of Token Minority Couple about them. I cringed every time she talked. That heart trouble storyline was because Marianne Jean Baptiste was getting pissed off about her lack of storyline and threatening to quit if she didn't get more. That was an awesome scene. For all his flaws, I thought the Jack/Vivian friendship was one of the best parts of the show. Especially since unlike the majority of male/female friendships on TV, there wasn't any sexual tension. Things I really hated about Jack: His hypocrisy. This guy pulls stunts that in real life would get him disciplined/demoted/suspended/fired/arrested, but instantly blasts anyone else who bends or breaks the rules. I love that moment when he's chewing Vivian out for lying to him about Martin's shooting of a suspect and she shuts him up by reminding him of how many times she's covered for HIM.
  18. I hated that. What's the point of the "Then & Now" flashes of the characters when there's been barely any change? Not to mention that the older episodes were more likely to tackle the major social issues of the time. I didn't like all the personal stuff in Season 7 either. Not because it was necessarily bad--Scotty's search for his mother's assailant was very moving--but because it went on too long. And then the show got cancelled so all of it got nixed!
  19. Actually it was. Years later, it was determined that a gang member--who has since been murdered himself--was Matt's killer. If you go to www.unsolved.com, they're very good at immediately updating if a case has been solved. It's amazing to see closure come even decades later.
  20. I'm glad we got the Call Back to Tim's apartment being broken into.
  21. I'm a detective working on a case. A psychic will join the investigation. I'll scoff at the idea and ridicule it. . . Until at some point, the psychic says something to me that they couldn't possibly have known about. And I'll be rattled and left wondering if this mumbo-jumbo is true after all.
