I suspect it is unlikely as there are a suprising amount of younger viewers for Lucifer - probably because he can be so funny - Though from bits and pieces of spoilers showing up (which I've actually been trying to avoid, but it's hard when people plaster them everywhere) it looks like we will be getting a bit more naked flesh on netflix than on Fox. It'll be interesting to see how far they push the stories now. I'm hoping for a genuine improvement over S3.

For all we know, that might actually have happened. We can only hope that we at least revert to the quality we got in S1 & S2 if nothing else. It's just a case of wait and see and hope for the best. If they don't do a good job with this season and get the happy viewers they need for S4 there won't be S5. I think it's as simple as that. There's a lot riding on their ability to pull the series back from the brink of death with S4.

I think a lot of us would agree with this sentiment. It was apparently an unauthorised leak and Joe Henderson was upset over the fan response on twitter for something nobody had even seen yet. It wouldn't be the first time deliberate misdirections have been supplied on episode plot contents to keep the details a surprise for viewers. I guess its just a case of wait and see. I am reasonably optimistic that with the short season nexflix is giving us that we won't see the bloated and strung out stories of season 3 and should have a better overall season 4.

Maybe nobody is pregnant. Didn't they just say "baby" and everyone jumped to the conclusion that either Chloe or Linda are pregnant? Maybe the "baby" belongs to someone else? An antichrist episode or something to with the priest or perhaps its a reference to Chloe's conception which we know was a miracle. Could be anything really.

Much as I guessed the big delay with getting Lucifer a new home was because of the complicated issue of streaming rights which were all over the place around the world. https://deadline.com/2018/06/lucifer-saved-netflix-picks-up-series-season-4-after-fox-cancelation-1202411666/ I saw some demographics from twitter the fandom is literately world-wide even though only USA neilson was keeping it on the air at fox. There are a lot of fans in South America, Europe (especially Germany and the UK), Australia and New Zealand. I highly suspect this is what we are going to see. The show runners were in a bad place trying to adhere to all the restrictions fox put on them. They wanted a darker Lucifer and more supernatural and mythology and were told NO. It will have a short season - 10 episodes - but I think they will be better crafted with little to no filler and better quality CGI and longer running. Network length is normally 41 or 42 minutes for adverts and streaming runs closer to an hour in the 50minute mark. It should make a real difference.

I went to the Melbourne convention panels where Lauren and Lesley-Ann talked about their time on Lucifer. The halls where the talks were given were big and mostly full on both days. There was a lot they filmed that fox forced them to drop out. Mostly darker scenes of the type that fans have been wanting for ages. They also filmed at Trixie-Maze apology scene but didn't have time to fit it in (42 minutes per episode) at the end of the season. Netflix should allow longer episodes with the show runners being able to add in the darker and mythology type stories they have been wanting to tell since season 1. Fox added extra episodes in seasons 2 and 3. It might seem generous and a good idea but it upset badly the story-telling balance of both seasons and their insistence on procedural stories stopped a lot of exploration in new directions. I'm confident that on netflix we will have less episodes but a better overall season.

Hopefully the show will now be free of the restrictions fox imposed on it and will be free to explore the more supernatural aspects of the story and not be chained into a procedural story every episode. We might finally get the series for at least 1 season that the show runners wanted to make from the start. If we only get one short season (10 epiosdes) I hope they make it kick-ass and every episode count.

And that has always been the problem for international fans of USA made shows. We count for nothing on the networks over there where only Neilson ratings count. The new streaming services on the other hand have hard information on who is watching every show in a way you can never see with Neilson boxes and the streaming isn't so dependent on advertising. Its because traditional TV gets all its revenue from advertising and it boxes them into a corner with the ratings. The real problem I have is that if a show dips below a certain ratings level they don't give the how runners enough notice to change direction and properly wind up a series. All these unresolved genre TV series are a real turn off for people, especially in their second life on streaming services or on DVD release. I'm sure it makes a lot of people reluctant to start new series they see coming up on TV.

Sociopaths and other physical mental problems really short circuit this whole logic of people essentially making their own decisions about Heaven/Hell. I don't think you'll ever get a full rule book for it out of any TV series, though Lucifer has been more consistent in sticking to what rules it creates than a lot of other fantasy series I've seen. (Grimm I'm looking at you) - All of these series require a large dose of not asking too many questions if you want to enjoy them when you watch them. In real life most of these cases would be sunk by forensics or the cops done for corruption before you got too far.

I don't think Dan or Ella were really in the know. They still seemed to be like Chloe thinking that Lucifer was some British eccentric talking in metaphors. Chloe had to be hit with a 2x4 to acknowledge that strange things really were afoot and she'd been ignoring them the whole time. I can see that the show had planned the last two episodes first and tried to shoehorn the rest of the story to meet the requirements of the last two episodes. It was clumsily done however and I wonder if the season length had something to do with it and they just couldn't handle it. My worry is if they somehow do get a season 4 that their budget will be cut drastically and it will have noticeable and even worse impact on what we get to watch (but this is all speculation and wishful thinking).

And this is exactly why online piracy flourishes even now. I know where I live it can be up to 12 months later that shows turn up, in the meantime spoilers are all over the internet and fandoms have moved onto discussing the next episode leaving those who don't have access to it left behind. The internet has been a game changer for how people find out exactly what they are missing out on and either get angry or do something about it, whether it is legal or not. Advertising is the main revenue stream for free to air TV and much of cable (I admit I hate paying for cable only to get adverts it seems like double dipping) but people with premium cable like HBO and who watch DVDs have got used to watching with out advertisements and many, like me I'm afraid, do their best to avoid them. Its jarring to go back to free to air these days and I'd rather not watch any TV at all than put up with the ads for too long. TV has hit a log jam between what viewers really want and the way their business model is set up.

I saw some screenshots from sites which follow twitter and I was suprised at where they were coming from. There are a huge amount of fans for Lucifer in Brazil, Germany, Canada, with smaller groups of fans in Russia and Australia and in some parts of Africa. Its watched all over the world, but only the USA viewers are counted for ratings purposes. It was actually pretty educational to see the fan distribution from twitter.
