  1. Former teacher here. Schools are petrie dishes. Always have been, always will be. Closing the schools did damage, socially, psychologically, and academically, but the damage would have been much worse, in fact deadly if they weren't closed. Deadly not just to the children, but to their parents, teachers, and grandparents. Many children live with grandparents as guardians, or in multi-generational homes. If kids went to school during the worst of the pandemic, how many of those grandparents would have wound up hospitalized, or worse? In one school district here, kids went back to school, but kids in their classes got Covid, and so they were in school in person, then virtual, then in person, then virtual, over and over again. Surely, that wasn't the right decision if we are looking for stability. Dr. Phil is annoying, but more than that, his political opinions were right out there this morning. I often am bothered by Sunny, and her need to always be the smartest one in the room, but today, I was proud of her, and Whoopie for standing up against Dr. Phil.
  2. I saw the 20/20 documentary. The cult ladies, barefoot, and dressed in white went to the 7th Day Adventist Church, and gave the baby to the man, who was the pastor there. He became her father, adopted her in a private adoption. Oh, and Haleth, I read it as Don Adams at first also.
  3. Olivia is the one person on the show who has grown (of main characters, I was impressed by Amber last night). Kim's gone back to being a selfish teenybopper, Ethan is still a toddler, who despite his own lack of knowledge and education, wants to raise kids just like he was raised, Moriah is a mess, Micah just doesn't want to deal with anything that isn't easy, pleasant, and uncomplicated. Barry is trying to be a good father, but his views are in his way, and he's just creepy. On the other hand, Olivia has come to terms with how she was raised, and wants nothing to do with that way of life, because she knows how limiting it has been for her and Ethan. When she was talking to Ethan's cousin, and said she was afraid to try college, because she had never been in a school in her life, I felt so bad for her. She could do it, and maybe once she is free of her toddler husband, she will. Bartending, and running her bridal photography business are fine, but she could take photography and business classes, one or two at a time, and feel better about herself.
  4. I've been watching since the first season, and I liked Moriah so much better back when she was the family rebel, showing her rebellion with clothing that was not acceptable to her parents. I found the Moriah of independence, living with Micah, Ethan, and Olivia, somewhat selfish, and immature, with an unrealistic view of her talent, but she was searching, and I found that a positive trait. This season's Moriah is a mess. She's hypocritical, and attention seeking. I can't even summon up empathy for her, and don't get me started on Micah.
  5. I love this show! I love Keith and Evan, their joyful smiles, and their mission to revitalize these neighborhoods. Shea and Terry are a wonderful couple also. It's so terrific to watch cheerful people doing good in this world. While Keith's style is not my style, I enjoy watching his process, and seeing the results. This show is such fun to watch.
  6. Spectrum must have only pulled ABC in some areas. Here in Cleveland, I could watch ABC all day if I wanted to at least so far.
  7. I watched it on Spectrum live today. Going forward, I hope the person who wrote it wouldn't be shown on Spectrum is wrong.
  8. I never understood the obsession with reality competition shows, and never watched any of them until Claim to Fame. I became obsessed with this show from the beginning in season one, and think it is so much fun to watch. I was not at all surprised at the final three. They all had strategies that worked for them as they played the game. I was glad that the winner was not Monay. I was also glad, Carly, with her Gabriel's not so smart remark, as she threw a tantrum in episode one, had to watch in person as Gabriel won.
  9. I think the lesson learned this year is don't listen to someone like Jane. She exuded confidence, and because she was older, and seemed knowledgable, the young folks trusted her. She pushed wrong information before being wrong about Chris, and then, again, on her return. Gabriel out and out lied throughout the show, but Jane just didn't know what she was talking about when she pushed her theories as facts. Moral of the story, never listen to Jane.
  10. I felt that Chris's anger was the result of having his character and upbringing questioned by Gabriel, and truthfully, that was my interpretation also. Gabriel wears a facade of good guy, but I am not sure it is who he is in reality. He is honest about what he knows and doesn't know, at least when he is interacting with the audience. Also, in a both sides post here, I looked up Donny Osmond's four sons, and Chris is the third of the four. His younger brother is 7 years younger than him, so he was the baby of the family for seven years. Take that as you see it.
  11. I don't think Monay has any idea who Chris is. I swear the clue could say Mormon from Utah from a singing family with a sister, named Marie, and these people would still guess wrong. Poor Donny's ego is probably taking it hard, but if Chris wins, it would probably heal really quickly. Still, being this season's Dean Martin can't be a good feeling for him. They seem to have begun figuring out Gabriel's clues, but they just have no idea about Monay's celeb. I generally don't watch competitive reality shows, but I absolutely love this show!
  12. I never liked Hugo, found him annoying, right up until he talked about his grandfather. Then, I felt bad for him. I just keep saying, they are just too young to understand clues like coat of many colors, teen idol in the 70s, and even Utah. Still, that none of them knew that Elton John was British . . .I'm not sure that can be said to be because of their age. Have they never heard him speak?
  13. When I said that the age of the contestants made it difficult for them to guess Chris or Hugo, I did not mean the age of Chris or Hugo, but the others seem not to recognize how much Chris looks like his father, because his father isn't part of their knowledge. His popularity was before their time. As far as Hugo, once again, their ages don't make his grandfather someone they identify with peanut farmer, or other things in the clue. Alicia Keys was easy to identify, because she is part of their generation. Monay even knew that Alicia Keys had a half brother who dated Emma Watson.
  14. Cole was my favorite, and I'm sorry to see him go, but his relative was obvious with the clues on the board, and during the telephone game. I have a feeling it is going to come down to Chris, Gabriel, or Hugo. The youth of the players is making the clues for Hugo and Chris difficult for the others to guess.
  15. Shayne was safe after the game earlier in the day. She had immunity. Jane/Jada figured out Hugo's information, but chose to go after Chris instead. Bad idea.
  16. I'm another one who found it somewhat offensive that Jean is replacing her Sassy Black friend in Iowa with a Sassy Black friend in California. I also am not Black, but it was so overt. Hoping that Jean will make more friends as she takes her new job, and that they will be diverse. I do like the gay roommate. He's adorable, and really sells his role. Is it really true that no one in LA eats bread, cheese, or meat? I have Facebook friends who live out there, and the photos they've put on don't show that at all, so I guess that's another stereotype being put forth.
  17. I have a hard time looking at Swoozie. I don't know if it is anorexia and plastic surgery, but it actually hurts me to watch her. I was a big fan of the show Sisters, and she was terrific on that show so long ago. What makes it worse, she was born on the exact same month, day, and year that I was, birthday twins. I like the other actors and their characters on the show, although Mayim is not selling me on Kat 100% of the time. I'm going to give it a few more viewings, but like most of the other new half hour comedies, it is just not all that entertaining.
  18. Back in the day, someone with Michah's looks would have been grabbed, put under contract, and wound up in movies. Not quite as far back, he would have been grabbed by the soaps, where he would have shirtless scenes at least twice a week. Hey, it could still happen.
  19. I have always found Sunny to be a terrific host on The View. I've always admired her intelligence and life experience. I'm listening to her read her autobiography, and I have to say that it is changing my view of her, and today's conversation about defunding the police is an example of why. I find her kind of condescending in the book, and that's how she came across to me today. She has to be the smartest person in the room ALL. THE. TIME. She has to be right, and everyone else who disagrees has to be wrong ALL. THE. TIME. I agree with those who said that if you have to explain your slogan over and over, perhaps it isn't a very good slogan, because so many misinterpret it. People voted against some candidates, because they thought that defund the police meant abolish the police. A slogan that damages the reputation of those who espouse it, and keeps a good candidate from beating a bad candidate isn't a good slogan, regardless of what Sunny Hostin believes.
  20. Two dark parents can easily have a blonde baby. Recessive genes are always there. However, for two blonde, blue eyed fair people to have a dark haired, dark eyed baby, well that's pretty much not going to happen . . . except on a soap where they don't always try to match the actors.
  21. I didn't love it. It didn't draw me in in the same way This is Us did when it first debuted. I did like some of the characters enough to watch a few more times. I don't like the affair between Delilah and Ed, even though I like them both as characters. I want to know more about Rome, and try to understand his depression. I hope he gets help for it, that he can confide in his wife, and that she will understand.
  22. I was a bit disappointed, but I'll give it another chance, because by the end, I didn't hate those people anymore. The kids are adorable!
  23. I think Oscar has some kind of childhood cancer that he had as a very young child. He may have been young enough that he no longer really remembers it. He was probably treated, and went into remission, but now that the symptoms have re-appeared, Kim, who may have been told that if that happens, it means his illness has returned, is sure that this time it will kill her son. She's a doctor, and shouldn't immediately jump to that conclusion. It does explain her overprotection of her teenage son.
  24. Watching Sam, the red haired teenage boy, and his ability to discuss his Tourettes, I think he would be a terrific motivational speaker. He could explain what Tourettes is to other high school students, and also mentor younger children with tourettes. I know he makes light of his tics, and tries very hard to hold them in, and I know he doesn't want attention at school for having a disability, because in his mind it is only an inconvenience, but now he is on national TV. Now is the time for him to use his feelings about what is going on with him, and his abilities, which seem strong, to help others to understand, and accept people with this disability. Many years ago when I was teaching in an elementary school computer lab, I had a student with Tourettes. He was a nice little guy, and very bright, but one of his tics was licking his lips, and they were always chapped and sore looking. When I got him as a student, I did a lot of reading about this syndrome, and so much that I learned is being remembered and reinforced by this series.
  25. I don't like Meghan McCain. I almost stopped watching The View because of her. She has no real understanding of her role on the show, which is to give Meghan McCain's view, not that of people in red states, not that of all conservatives, not that of Trump voters, her own point of view. She is not empathetic or kind to others on the show, and she does not treat people well. All that said, I find myself feeling very bad for her these last two days. She is a Daddy's girl, who just lost her Daddy, and her life will never be the same. Even though she knew this was coming, it is a terrible blow for her to lose him from her life, and she is not taking it well. She has sobbed throughout, and as someone who cries easily, and can't stop on a dime once i start, I feel for her, going through this in a public way. Her brothers and her husband have been there for her, but her dad was her rock, and he'll never be that again. I never thought I would be moved to tears watching this woman, but I have been. I doubt if this will change her behavior on The View, and I doubt that I will ever like her, but that doesn't stop me from feeling sympathy for her at this time.
