  1. From 2015, I found a age viewer detailed chart for Idol. The 2 biggest viewing blocks kids 14-21 and adults 30-59. Both groups had approx the same number of viewership for the old Idol. Now which of those groups will be more inclined to cast votes in the current format under the assumption that the percentages are still true this year? I would think the younger age groups. And I know from my daughter's college, they have watching parties Sunday evening with hundreds in attendance all max voting for their favorites. I will be happy as long as Caleb does not win. He will get a nice country career. Gabby will get a nice country career and some producer will work with her to define her own voice. I want Maddie to win. When they all sang with Carrie at the beginning, you got a comparison of Gabby vs Maddie singing versus right after each other and Maddie sounded better to my ears. I can see Gabby or Caleb opening for Luke in a year. Not sure where Maddie fits in musically where she can be a star, but I'd pay to hear her sing.
  2. Not saying she shouldn't have sung it in Spanish. I am saying for her to win or at least advance without the help of the judges, she should have sung something that more of the audience would recognize. Idol has done this before with bi-lingual singers. I don't think it helps their case with the voters. With spanish or mexican heritage voters, absolutely. And I think that's is part of idols game. The producers and judges think that it will attract more viewers.
  3. I can understand Idol trying to be culturally relevant, however, Michelle could have sang the most beautiful song in the world with the greatest voice ever, but if I can't understand the words, I will not vote for her. If that makes me petty or not PC, I am guilty. I think some of America would agree with me. I have no issue with her wanting to sing Spanish. Audition for Telemondo The biggest advice I would give these contestants is "know your audience" if you want to win.
  4. I can remember back to Carrie Underwood's season and this board would be trying to bury her. Yet when X-Factor US tried showing the vote totals, someone asked Nygel (exec producer) of the old show why they didn't do that? He replied because it would kill the show and give Carrie by example. He said she won every week by a huge margin and no one else had a chance. Even when you read the posts on tonight, they are all over the place. Some love Cade, some don't. Some like Gaby, some don't. I have yet to read a negative post on Maddie so maybe that's a clue how popular she is. My favs have been Gaby, Cade, Maddie and Michael. Catie is growing on me, she has a nice voice. I am a more main stream radio guy (pop and country) so I doubt I'd ever hear a song of Maddie's on the radio. The quirks of Michael and Catie to me say they don't have the total package. I hope all of them have a good career in music should they chose, but for national superstar, I can only see Gabby or Cade pulling that off.
  5. This show doesn't put the Top 14 "best" singers in the live shows. The show wants viewers of all music types and races. No country singers, not as many country fans watch. No singers of different races, less people of those races watch. Some of the biggest demographics for this show are young teen girls and college kids. They skew the makeup of the Top 14 to appeal to this group too. Katie is not the best singer, we all know that. But she brings a demographic of people who watch just to see how far her quirkiness will go. They watch to see her lose. I think they are limiting the country singers because the last few years, the country voting contingent has been strong on this show and The Voice. So one girl and one boy. Everyone can guess who the male will be next week. I am confident that Ada Vox will make the top 14 out of his group next week. Curious to see if America will support him when the live shows start. I'm routing for Cade. He looks like a young Glenn Frey to me. But then again, I love rock music. So a little bias on my part.
