I know he is supposed to be a nepotism hire and I should hate him, but I was really quite impressed with the performance that Joshua James Bernard gave when he was on earlier this month. Kid's got talent, the show could do worse than to hire him. -
You don't have to be a Will Smith Hater to know that assault and battery are crimes.

The "pile on of hate" is because of the complete lack of consequences to Will Smith for what he did. That's what people are angry about.

You are not the only person who saw that. In many of the news stories I heard the day after the incident, many women who had been abused said they saw that exact parallel.

Given that Smith's excuse for his actions was exactly that, it's not surprising that many people came to that conclusion. No, he didn't. Reports say he walked offstage and left the building. Nobody said a word to him.

Although we can savor the irony that people are using THE EXACT INCIDENTS that were cited to put the Academy's Rules of Conduct in place to argue that the Academy should not enforce it's Rules of Conduct. Why did they even bother to put them into place if they were not going to enforce them?

Oh, don't worry, Will Smith will get to keep his Oscar. He's rich, powerful, and privileged. Consequences are for the little people.

Fun Fact: The Academy adopted a Code of Conduct in 2017 in the wake of #MeToo. What Smith did was in direct violation of that Code. I guess it was more really "guidelines".

Well, like most Oscars, a lot of films/performers I was rooting for didn't win, but some did. Count me as one who says that Will Smith should not be invited next year, tradition be damned. He ruined what was shaping up to be a pretty good evening.

Such a shame that SUMMER OF SOUL's moment gets backgrounded in favor of either a botched joke or some truly terrible behavior.

Editing has traditionally been seen as the "tip-off award" for Best Picture. DUNE might just win the big one...

I read somewhere that it was respected more than it was loved. And Oscar voters tend to go with their hearts.
