  1. Right??? Those things looked mass produced they were so precise!
  2. That was a really interesting Elimination Challenge and provided some of the most intriging dishes this season so far. Some of the teams were very innovative. (I did not mean to do all “I” adjectives, LOL.) I think the right team went home. I was surprised Demarr messed up his cornbread. Glad to see Ashleigh on the top after the string of bottoms — since she’s an N.C. chef, I want her to do well. Jae is hilarious.
  3. I simply CANNOT with Charlotte’s military love interest (Lennox?). I had to stop watching “Dickensian” because that actor’s character was so utterly vile. I can’t shake that association. I was bothered by Charlotte’s hair for the first time. It was a mess. And all the shirtless men was just NOT DONE around ladies. And unmarried ladies hanging around men unchaperoned. Anachronistic madness!
  4. Quite a few cheftestants among the James Beard nominees. On a very quick scan I saw Kevin, Tiffani, Isaac, Tiffany, Sheldon and Jamie. I’m sure I probably missed some. https://www.jamesbeard.org/blog/the-2022-james-beard-award-semfinalists
  5. Jessie Diggins is a BADASS. She said afterward that she had food poisoning 30 hours before the race! Meanwhile, I can barely get off the sofa after a short night of sleep. That she was able to medal is amazing. The first non-European to medal in the event.
  6. Welp. This S/K routine is putting me to sleep. Everything pales beside alien.
  7. Is it just me or was Nathan Chen’s applause for H/D a lot less heartfelt than for C/B? Same, Nathan, same.
  8. C/B were so good. I just love that program. So sad they had the bobble in the RD that will probably keep them off the podium.
  9. U.S. goes 1-2 in monobob! A discipline which is just damn fun to say. I also missed all but the celebration because I was watching ice dance.
  10. So monumental for Erin Jackson for so many reasons. First Black woman to win speed skating gold and ends a long U.S. drought. I just read she started speed skating only 5 years ago! That is amazing!
  11. Somebody is going to use some version of the headline “Golden Oldies,” aren’t they?
  12. That was a lovely display of sportsmanship. Seriously, I had never heard of mixed snowboard cross when the evening started, and now I think it’s one of the most important things ever. The Olympics, man! What an amazing race and outcome. So thrilled for my fellow olds. My heart is still pounding.
  13. What. A. Mess. If she gets to compete, there will be no credibility left with the IOC (what they had left) or the doping regulations. It’ll be “anything goes, the powerful can get away with whatever they want.” Thread on timeline:
  14. Hirano dared the judges to eff it up again. Thankfully they did not. I’m sad Shaun didn’t get a medal, but I think it really was a long shot this time.
  15. I second the announcer’s bafflement at Hirano not being in first. I admittedly am a casual viewer of half-pipe, but that run seemed obviously superior to any other so far to my eyes.
  16. Yikes about Vincent. I’m worried about all the U.S. skaters now since they were all together in the team section. I hope they were diligent with the mask-wearing. And I really hope Nathan and Vincent haven’t been hanging out. Could Ilia even get into the Olympic bubble at this point given the advance Covid testing requirements? Or can Vincent even be subbed for at this point since he’s already competed?
  17. Wait, what? 😮 Wow, I had no idea they were a couple! So glad Chock and Bates won. I get that their FD isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I applaud them for doing interesting routines that aren’t the overwrought passion sneer face “romance” programs that are so prevalent. I couldn’t stand Virtue/Moir for that reason, and the same goes for Hubbell/Donohue.
  18. I was so pleased for Giuseppe and it was the outcome I wanted, but he was definitely off his game. I was screaming at him to take out his buns already, as they were clearly burning. I was as confused as Chigs was when he took them out so burned. Even then I was surprised he was last in the Technical, as they were otherwise right and Chigs’s seemed more wrong. And I have no idea why Giuseppe baked his cake all in one instead of layers, given the time constraint. That was obviously not the way to go. It seemed really close. I was so impressed with Chigs given his short experience, and Crystelle’s bakes were always so creative and good-looking. I feel bad for her, because she did seem to be looking like the winner until the Focaccia Disaster. I do love this show and its lovely warm-heartedness. Sorely needed! Also Chigs is the most attractive contestant they’ve ever had, and I enjoyed that. [/shallow]
  19. We Robert Finke’d it! I also loved the waterfall/rings lighting effect.
