  1. I obsessively avoid anything that might remotely be considered a spoiler. So I always skip the clips, and didn't get the hint. As a recovering librarian, I usually do my research before guessing or asking. Guess I got lazy this time. It didn't take much searching to find this in Milwaukee Magazine. (I don't think anyone else would remotely consider it a spoiler): "After observing an old-fashioned Door County fish boil, the chefs are asked to create their own, with help from alumni of previous “Top Chef” seasons." Can't wait to see it!
  2. I dig an old school supper club! There's another Wisconsin culinary tradition I can't get as excited about. Maybe they will go to Door County for the traditional fish boil. https://www.foodrepublic.com/2016/11/21/door-county-wisconsins-iconic-fish-boils-are-history-in-a-cauldron/
  3. "Kudos to the Wisconsin Tourist Board for making me want to take a trip up to the Milwaukee/Madison area." Just before the pandemic, I traveled from Seattle to do a Wright in Wisconsin tour with Road Scholar. So I was very excited to finally see this episode! I really enjoyed revisiting a few of the sites we had toured. I was astonished that they let the chefs use the drafting room at Taliesen to do their menu planning. On our tour, we were limited to a quick view from the catwalk. It was actually pretty fabulous, because we could see the architects working below us. And it was exciting to see the chefs preparing and presenting their food to the judges in a restaurant where I had eaten! When I was there, it was just a humble café in the visitors' center.
  4. Years ago, I joined a private Frank Lloyd Wright Facebook group - heavily curated and very serious. I took a chance and initiated a discussion about this episode. Most people's thoughts went immediately to this Fallingwater gingerbread house. Every holiday season it seems to go viral. I was relieved that none of the chefs went too literal. And I think Buddha's interpretation of the Guggenheim was restrained and lovely.
  5. I love Eric Ripert. Unfortunately, my reaction when I see him walk out is another bit of heartbreak. He will probably be forever linked in my mind to Anthony Bourdain.
  6. This lovely episode really tugged on my heartstrings.
  7. I remembered Kaleena from Beachside Brawl. I cheered for her as a local Seattle chef (although Chicago has since claimed her) but I wasn't particularly enthusiastic.
  8. Thanks for the heads up! It took me a few tries, but it looks like I have set my DVR to record the series.
  9. I wonder why they're skipping two weeks? In this case, absence may not make the heart grow fonder.
  10. I have friends from Maine who bought a summer home in Costa Rica. Not on the beach. They were in the highlands, in the interior, on Lake Arenal. Gorgeous views of the water and the volcano. They are serious birders, and invited me to visit. It was the trip of a lifetime! We went on a number of birding excursions to different locations. The roads are definitely a concern. We always left at dawn and had to be back before dark. I asked if crime was the issue (when I went on a birding tour in Guatemala, we had armed guards for protection on the tourist bus and the more remote trails!) They told me it was the condition of the roads. We did encounter random road closures for repairs, got lost once trying to find a way around it. And I don't think they are lit at night. They lived outside a small village in an area with a fair number of expats. Not particularly remote. But crime was an issue there. They had a secure area where they locked up any valuables when they left the house (a previous guest had a laptop stolen ). I was looking forward to hearing the monkeys and birds at dawn, but they said we needed to close and lock the patio doors and windows at night. My friends sold their house - after their next-door neighbor (a woman who lived alone) was tied up and robbed in a home invasion.
  11. What gives? Are they on hiatus? My cable guide doesn't show any new episodes for the next couple weeks.
  12. IIRC, in previous seasons of LCK, they kept the losing chefs around to form a peanut gallery for the subsequent cook offs. So, the peanut gallery grew as the season progressed. I'm not sure if that would support any particular theory of when/how the LCK episodes were filmed. Maybe they just keep them on ice for the entire season?
  13. I really enjoyed this episode! As a midwest native, I still love ya, WI. But now I hoppily live in the hoppiest place in the USA. Especially during Fresh Hop season!
  14. When it was announced that Padma would not be returning, my first thought was – who could possibly replace her? My second thought was - Kristen Kish. I had just seen her series Restaurants at the End of the World and thought she would be a perfect fit. I think she is off to a fabulous start!
  15. Hey Jesse, "au revoir" literally means - until we meet again. Perhaps you were thinking of "adieu"? Duff sounded so congested, don't know how he could taste anything!
  16. I've been watching since the beginning. What stuck with me about the earliest episodes - they built up the suspense, after the house hunters made their choice, waiting to find out if their offer was accepted. I just sold and bought a home in the last year. That waiting is certainly stressful! But maybe not TV material.
  17. Love her intro: "hi I’m Mary from 90 day finance". Finance, indeed.
  18. I've been wondering what's up with the surrogacy. Did they decided on a fur baby instead?
  19. In today's news. Butter chicken - the origin story: https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2024/03/01/1234793757/butter-chicken-origins-india-madhur-jaffrey-recipe?ft=nprml&f=1053
  20. He could've taken lessons from Danny DeVito in Friends.
  21. I can be awfully cynical, but I have a sentimental soul. What a great episode! I loved the connections to the past - memories of their college years and their budding relationship. And the present - the community of fellow/former students that still surrounds them. And the future - the new school named in their honor. This one gave me all the feels.
  22. I don't remember which of the places it was, but I was appalled when she pushed him quite vigorously onto the bed. So rude! Their friskiness was a little grating.
  23. I wonder if Tiffany is his stylist? I predict a new fashion trend. The cold-shoulder look for men!
  24. " I assumed that someone Greek was involved (either in the production or one of the writers)" Someone like Elizabeth Stamatina Fey? Tina is half-Greek on her mother's side. My son is half Greek - on his father's side. His father is named Thomas Alexander, grandfather was Alexander Thomas, great grandfather was Thomas Alexander. My son is not named Alexander Thomas. I do have a grandson named Alexander Atlas. (Late to the party. Just watching the show now that it's airing on ABC.)
